Sucks for Leivo but probably means we could sign him for a cheap one year deal if he wants to stay.

I'd like to see him back on a good contract.  He deserves a chance to show the org what he's truly got.

If the Canucks lose that means 5 losing capped out years in a row doesn't it? This round is a anomaly isn't it? I wonder if jobs are at stake yet.

Isn't the draft pick traded an option if the Canucks don't make it, this year or next?

With the draft using the alphabet instead of team names, until the play in round is over, will it influence some teams to bow out? If team B, D and G get 1rst, 2nd or 3rd will some teams just not "be up for the game"? Lot's of legit excuses for some teams to build for the future without the desperate need of making the playoffs like the Canucks have to. What a reward, lose 3 games and maybe get the #1, 2 or 3 pick and set up the team for a decade or longer, it has to be tempting. It is a situation now where a player or two for whatever reason see's sitting out as a benefit to his career or an enhanced chance to win a cup next year.

Any team that “bows out” should be evicted from the league and any player should be banned from the NHL for life, mind you if you’re that much of a loser you’re probably not NHL caliber to start with.

How is this going to interfere with next season? Are we just going from cup finals to regular season? NBA and NHL are in odd crossroads here. I'd love to see a champ crowned but it just makes too much sense to just cancel the season altogether

It doesn't.  Next season won't start on time whether they finish this season or not.  They are looking to push back the date as late as possible.  They are talking of January but it might even be later with how things are going.

It's not viable to operate without fans in the stands and some owners are against resuming until they can.

Alberta just announced there stage 2 opening for this Friday , is it possible they could have two hub cities in Calgary and Edmonton, travel isn’t that far

[...]

Treliving confirmed several weeks ago that Calgary was not a candidate to be a hub city.

Time zones would be an issue.  It's not ideal for viewership to have both conference playing that far West.

Also Bill Daly excluded putting a hub in Canada if the 14 day quarantine rules stands.  They would apparently like to use Edmonton - the exchange rate makes it more favourable to play in Canada but there's that quarantine rule.

Yesterday Treliving confirmed that the Flames are making plans to hold their training camp in the US because of that quarantine rule.  Benning has also suggested that the Canucks could hold their training camp in the US because of that too.

There are apparently discussions to adjust the calendar beyond next season.  The networks have apparently told the league that it would increase the ratings if their season were to start later.  In October there is competition with too many other major sports.  The more profitable months are late winter and spring.

The league has to negotiate a new US TV deal for 2021/22 and reconsidering the calendar might be part of it.  The league is going to lose so much money and adjusting the calendar might be a way to recoup part of their losses.

Thanks.

While it may not be as per usual, which ever way the league can recoup some of their lost earnings makes a lot of sense.... for all parties involved.

Canucks-Wild: Key statistics for Stanley Cup Qualifier series

https://www.nhl.com/news/vancouver-canucks-minnesota-wild-key-statistics/c-317086116

NHL.com goes Behind the Numbers to identify key statistics for each of the eight best-of-5 series in the Stanley Cup Qualifiers. Today, a look at the matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild.

Power play

One key area in the series could be the Vancouver Canucks' advantage on the power play. Vancouver was fourth in the NHL during the season (24.1 percent); the Minnesota Wild were 14th (20.3 percent). Rookie defenseman Quinn Hughes was tied for the Canucks lead in power-play points (25) with forward J.T. Miller. One trend worth noting is the Wild's power play was ranked 20th (17.8 percent) from the start of the season until Dec. 31 but finished strong, converting 26.4 percent of its chances until the season was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus. That ranked fourth in the League behind the New York Rangers (29 percent), Edmonton Oilers (28.2 percent) and Dallas Stars (27.4 percent).

What changed? The emergence of forward Kevin Fiala, who scored eight power-play goals in the final 28 games, which was third in the League behind Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl and Rangers center Mika Zibanejad (nine each).

Save percentage

Canucks goalie Jacob Markstrom was 11th in the NHL among those who played at least 30 games this season with a .918 save percentage. He had an .876 save percentage on the penalty kill (16th) and a .925 save percentage at even strength, which was tied for ninth with Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning (minimum 30 games). Markstrom sustained a knee injury in late February but is expected to be back whenever the Qualifying Round begins.

The Canucks should have an advantage in goal against the Wild, who alternated between Alex Stalockand Devan Dubnyk during the season. Stalock's numbers (20-11-4, .918 save percentage) suggest he could be their starter in Game 1; Dubnyk went 12-15-2 with an .890 save percentage in 30 games (28 starts). Stalock had a strong finish to the season with 11 wins since Jan. 1, which was tied for sixth in the NHL with Tuukka Rask of the Boston Bruins, Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens, Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers, Jordan Binnington of the St. Louis Blues and Marc-Andre Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights.

Shot attempts differential

The Wild were minus-48 in shot attempts differential before the season pause; the Canucks were minus-201. This could be a significant indicator of how the series will be played, considering the stat suggests Minnesota is better at controlling play 5-on-5. If this theory holds true, the Wild will be able to apply more pressure on Markstrom at even strength, which could lead to more offense and relieve pressure from their power play.

Minnesota also scored 156 goals at 5-on-5, which ranked sixth in the NHL. Vancouver scored 141 (18th).

Oh man, this is taking way to long. Let’s get this going already. I’m starving for hockey.

I find It weird with some still saying just cancel this season and plan for next season. The hub city idea ensures the teams playing for playoffs are all relativity quarantined and don’t need to travel. A new season means lots of more travel, which would be unsafe until a cure is readily available, which likely isn’t until January at the earliest.  This playoff option is the best way to deliver relatively safe hockey right now.

Plus, it’s an opportunity for the Canucks to make the postseason for the first time in years, and anything can happen in the playoffs! Go Canucks!

I saw that they believe the west hub city will be in Vegas... which doesn't make sense to me.

Vancouver should be near the top of considerations, if not the best option... not even cause im a homer, lol. We got lucky with a relatively low amount of cases here. Compared to Vegas its 10x lower I believe.

Oh and we don't have a country full of unrest and protests, and a admin that is re-opening way too fast...

Just my .02
