FLY ER DIE: OFFSEASON REVIEW

The Flyers offseason business has concluded early, and the roster is set for next season. The goal this summer was to address several weaknesses in the team, primarily goaltending but also defensive and forward depth. This was accomplished via a series of trades, with the team opting to promote from within instead of procuring any free agents. We'll take a look at some of the new faces and how they could help the team.

WHO'S IN

Probably the most exciting addition is young goaltender Philipp Grubauer, acquired from Washington at the draft. Grubauer did very well as a backup last season, and will be handed the chance to prove himself as a starter in Philly. He will provide great competition for prized prospect Carter Hart, who hopes to make the team in the next few seasons. The defence has been completely overhauled, with David Savard, Jordie Benn, and MacKenzie Weegar all joining the team via trade. Savard posted 34 points last season, and will step right in to the top 4 and both special teams. Benn hopes to be a steady stay-at-home defender on the 3rd pairing, where he will pair with young offensive D Weegar. Finally, veteran winger Jannik Hansen was brought in to stabilize the 4th line and provide strong penalty killing. Young two-way winger Tom Kuhnhackl was also acquired, and he will hope to make the team next season at the latest.

ROOKIE WATCH

Arguably the 2 best prospects in the system, Ivan Provorov and Travis Konecny will be hoping to make a big impact this season. Ivan Provorov will play on the 2nd pairing with veteran Radko Gudas, and also play on both sets of special teams. Konecny will complete the 2nd line, playing with the enigmatic Nail Yakupov and Selke-winning centre Sean Couturier. Both players are coming off monstrous CHL seasons, and will be key pieces as the Flyers look to become contenders once again. While not as hyped as Konecny and Provorov, Mac Weegar will also be hoping to impress in his first NHL season, and will be given the chance to play on the 2nd PP unit.

DRAFTEES

The Flyers secured some exciting talent at the 2017 NHL entry draft, going off the board to pick Finnish pointman Henri Jokiharju at 19th overall. Jokiharju will add to the already impressive D prospect depth of the Flyers, highlighted by Phillipe Myers and Jacob Larsson making the step up to the AHL this season. The 2nd round of the draft saw the Flyers add two exciting wingers: Andrei Altybarmakyan and Santeri Virtanen. Altybarmakyan possesses immense individual skill, and could eventually develop in to a legit top 6 forward. Virtanen is a little more unpredictable, but could eventually be a strong top 9 player. Finally, Mark Rubinchuk was selected early in the 3rd round, and could be a decent bottom-pairing option in the future.

Flyers management is very confident in the talent on this roster, and will be expecting nothing less than a return to the playoffs.

If your team is not signing any free agents, and you are ready for next season, feel free to send in lines. I will get your team done with, and hopefully we can sim by Saturday night/Sunday morning!

Also, please specify if any players will be on 9 game trials (feel free to ask me if you are not sure if a player is eligible for one).
