[Signing] Tryamkin Re-signs in KHL for 1 Year

Recommended Posts

Could very well be so that we avoid having Seattle potentially pick him in the ED. However you’d think we would’ve signed him to a one year deal then. But I am happy to see if he improves in the K another year, while other prospects here like Rafferty, Rathbone, Juolevi and Brisebois might make the club. It’s getting crowded on the depth chart. Tryamkin and agent diamond might have missed their opportunity with the team by not agreeing to a two way deal. We already have a 6-8 D man in Benn making 2 Million. And he’s proven, Tryamkin still needs to earn his keep.

That's actually a good point.  With Tryamkin unsigned he doesn't need protection in the ED.  If we had signed him to a one year deal he would have qualified for protection.  So that frees up a spot for us in terms of who we protect on D.

He is still available for selection just like if he had have signed with us... we still have to protect him if we want to.

It might be less likely that he is selected because they wouldn’t have a year to see him in the NHL before deciding.  The only difference is that if he had been signed for a multi-year contract he would have qualified as a player to be exposed that met minimum requirements

It also isn’t like we have lots of quality D to protect.  We really don’t even need to protect Myers as his contract is at best a fair value for his production. We should be making trades next offseason for guys that other teams can’t protect.  There are a number of teams who have a #4 guy who is an upgrade on everyone except Hughes.

Diamond says that Tryamkin really wanted to come over.  It was too risky to wait as he hasn't played since February.  Also says that discussion never really started because of the Canucks' cap situation.  Still hopes they can get something done for the 2021/22 season.

So it could be Podkolzin and Tryamkin coming to Canucks at the same time in a year. Good thing Tryamkin is happy with Canuck management and wouldn’t dare say anything bad about his experience with the Canucks to Pod.

im a Jimbo fan but....... wtf was he thinking hiding in his cave not even talking to the Agent for weeks and weeks.

Tryamkin RFA and Podlkozin new ELC signing.  Not the same rules for each.

Podkolzin can sign as soon as his KHL season is over and join the team - like Boeser, Hughes did.

Tryamkin will have to wait until 2021/22.  There's a signing deadline for RFAs.   The NHL season's start date is tentatively set for 1 December so it's likely that he won't meet that signing deadline as his KHL season would still be underway.  The possibility is there though if the NHL season is pushed back by several months.

He might still come next year, after the KHL season is finished. The way things are shaping up, that might not even be the halfway point of the 2020-2021 season. By then they’ll have had time to see if Rathbone or Rafferty are ready, they’ll know if Tanev or Stecher are still here, and they may even have more cap space to play with (if they manage to move someone, or have some I/R cap relief).

The encouraging thing is that both sides showed a lot of interest in getting something done. It sounds as though if COVID didn’t happen they would have got this done for sure. But there’s just too much up in the air right now for it to work. With the flat cap Jim couldn’t hamstring the team without knowing if he could move someone else, and Nikita had to make sure he could support his family. But next year might be different.

This is what I thought too.

I guess KHL season is going to be underway sooner than NHL season, which will begin it's 2020-21 season in December? By the time KHL is over, NHL will be half way in to its season. We can still sign him and add him in mid season and it will be like a deadline acquisition at no cost.

Wonder how many rubles he’s getting paid for this KHL deal?

Would be kinda interesting to know how close it was to $1,075,000 USD (the maximum salary buriable in the AHL).

EDIT: also curious if he has an NHL out clause? You’d think he’d demand one, if he really wants to come back.
