Wennberg has been struggling and Jenner's versatility is useful. He could be part of a package to upgrade at top-6 C - they need someone to play behind Dubois but otherwise I'd be surprised if they trade him. CBJ is a bit under pressure. Jones is a UFA in 2 years so they also have to show him that the team has the potential to be true contenders, so that they can retain him long term. Jones would be a solid target as a UFA in a couple years for the Canucks...if we would have the cap space is TBD. JB should be shedding salary now and doing shorter term deals to try and keep room in 2-3 years time when we should be really a team to expect things from

Shedding to much this season (even if possible) is likely to result in new contracts that run past that point. thats part of the reason along with flat cap of looking at RFA right swap deals to try and get things we need now without really altering the cap situation or giving up much

If St Louis re-signs Pietrangelo, they might not have the cap space to extend Parayko in 2 years as they are likely stuck with Faulk.

Blues made a bad trade for Faulk and to extend him before extending Pietrangelo was a mistake. Cernak is a big target, just depends if TB would be willing to move him and if they are...what do they want in return?

Junkyard Dog
Zadorov might be a good target. LH shot but he plays the right side, like Tryamkin, as a big physical Russian defenseman.

Well even less then 2-3 years 1-2. And it will all happen naturally if we just hold off on adding players at this point, find a few Schenn/Fanta types to plug a hole or use a vet like Spezza-Thornton-Perry (I get those guys go to contenders so maybe they won’t be available) we could even take advantage of Covid contracts a little too. Tough balancing act - and I doubt JB goes this direction - but I see the value in it. Gate revenue won’t matter next season either - perfect year to bottom out accidentally on purpose to get one more great core player coming up when Horvat/Miller are up.. Ghostsof1915
Let's face facts. Jake is not a power forward. He's a north-south winger, with speed and size. He is what he is. Part of the problem is people want him to be something he's not.

He was that when he grew bigger and stronger as a kid before the others and be the bully, now he is disinterested in that game, as others are bigger and matured now He is a decent player, but i agree he is not the player anymore that we want him to be (or even what Benning wants him to be) He is what he is

Retain 50% on Benn (cheap 7th D option, 1 year left) + a pick/prospect deal maybe? If it comes to cost any more than the value of a 2nd round pick, then we could offer sheet him... (much to the chagrin of Burkie) I wonder what Tampa's walk away number would be?
