Thinking it over this question popped up. Is the timing of all this a blessing? Comparisons are inevitable; for instance, today's tandem vs the Lu & Schneids endless debate. Maybe the knowledge of an oncoming ED is beneficial? Applies to all teams, & this 'deadline' prompts a GM to get his *ss in gear & be decisive. When coupled with the COVID-mayhem, this is when all GM's will have to get out there & work like diligent farmers, as opposed to shady lawyers in discrete rooms. We've got a young team, with many key assets not even requiring protection. We could make a deal or two(of value-heightened youth) to obtain a strong(protection-required piece) that a rival team perhaps can't cover. We came outa' the last ED smellin' like a rose. Popular Post Kevin Biestra Posted September 21, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted September 21, 2020 The only way I see it as a blessing is if it forces us to cut ties early with Markstrom AND that ends up being the right decision (i.e. Demko is the next Kirk McLean and we're truly glad Markstrom isn't on our cap 3 years from now). If that’s out of the picture as in he’s made a decision on who to keep and makes a trade with the other to get an asset back for his time developing both and doesn’t add too many players that creates a situation where we have to expose someone we really shouldn’t be then for sure we both could come out looking great and jump on the opportunity train. A few things on this. Seattle if smart will add as many fourth Ds as they can afford, and as many Theodore types as he can too (OJs lets just pretend - high upside Ds). However if they treat us like they should - anyone in our division and especially Vancouver given the close proximity - shouldn’t be their first choice when it comes to trade partners. Figure the best case is we shed some payroll and don’t end up giving them JM or Demko. Well JM actually would be a good case I suppose as it would shed payroll, show that Demko is ready for prime time and start a bitter rivalry ha ha. The worst thing you can do is trade picks and players so Seattle doesnt take a certain player Its impossible to predict who the canucks will protect right now so dont bother. At worst the canucks will lose gaudette or juolevi, but you can hope they take roussel or beagle.
