  1. He was drafted out of the Belarusian league, so he is very raw and starting his development from a very low base. Canucks development team are taking it slowly with him as he is as close to a blank slate as a prospect can be so therefore healthy scratches are to be expected. He was drafted because of the raw potential. He may end up a NHL top6 PF or 4th line grinder or AHL/Euro league player, we will have to wait and see and not be too critical or put too much expectation yet. Because he is starting from such a low base I'm not worried about his playing time or stats for the first 3 years. They are clearly teaching him to think the game as well as play the game. How far he goes is up to him now, he is in a great position to succeed so hopefully he has the workrate, drive and intelligence to take advantage.
  2. Got to stop thinking of BH as a 3C and using the logic of not being smart to be paying a 3C 7m a year. The way I see it is that he is at worst our 3rd best forward and now a 30 goal scorer too. Paying 7m for your 3rd best forward isn't exactly poor cap management
  3. Don't see the issue with a requesting a trade tbh, he wants the opportunity to challenge for an NHL gig and knows he won't have that with the NYR's. He is at the age where he needs to be in a position to challenge for an NHL gig, nothing wrong with trying to do what is best for his career. It's not like he is holding out for more money, he doesn't owe the NYR's anything. On saying that, I don't like the refusal to attend camp. He can request a trade but he should also honour his contract and show up for work. Showing up and playing well will facilitate a trade much quicker than sitting out. He has made a short sighted decision IMO.
  4. I think you are getting mixed up with EP40 hitting a 102mph shot at the 2020 AllStar skills comp
  5. The roster is upgraded but coaching staff doesn't seem up to scratch. If a change is to be made who is out there to suit the canucks roster??
  6. This guy must be super pissed, gets traded from Tampa and they go on to win the next 2 Stanley cups.......
  7. Think you mean 5 letters......
  8. I'm intrigued by this.....when I read it I thought that it can't be true, so I went to maps and tried to find a straight line route that proved you correct but I can't....I'm genuinely curious on this, can you provide proof?
  9. 4mil signing bonus and 4mil salary, say for instance a 20% escrow is agreed and I believe the bonus is not subject to escrow. That leaves remaining income at 7.2mil and after taxes that probably lowers to roughly 4.2mil. If he takes the 3m bonus this off season and retires he might walk away with 1.6mil after tax. So by retiring he is probably leaving roughly 2.5mil on the table. Considering his career earnings to date and the impact of COVID-19 it's not inconceivable that he may look at things and decide that it's time to retire after taking the bonus this off season. Obviously these are rough figures to illustrate my point but when talking about him not retiring because he will be walking away from 8mil or 5mil after the bonus is paid is not the complete story, you need to factor in escrow and taxes before really seeing what he may be walking away from......
  10. As far as I'm concerned I don't believe any team should be hit with a penalty for these contracts. The league approved these contracts, if it was cap circumvention then the league shouldn't have approved it. At the time it was signed it was clear to everyone what they were trying to do and it was still approved so the teams responsibility for the legality of the contract ended when the league approved it.....
  11. Haven't really paid much attention to AM, so went to eliteprospects and was surprised to see that he is only 3 days older than Tyler Madden. I'd expect him to stay the full 4 years in NCAA . Hopefully he will continue to develop and be one of those late bloomers to get time in NHL. As a 7th rounder we can't expect/hope for much more really.
  12. I like LK, he is an intriguing prospect. I hope LK and T.Utunen come over to play AHL with Utica next season, get them used to NA hockey and Canuck systems. Eliteprospects.com show he now has 4 assists in first 2 games for new team.
  13. I don't know.....for me an NHL bust is a player who is drafted high and is proven just not good enough to play in the NHL(they are either not good enough to get there or once there are exposed as not good enough). This does not really apply to OJ as injuries are what has stopped him from getting game time in the NHL and he has had no opportunity to show if he is good enough for the league. I believe he has the talent to be a NHL player even though injuries have most likely lowered his ceiling and I believe if he had remained injury free since the draft he most likely would be on the roster now. If he doesn't make the league due to injury we cannot call him a bust, it will have been a wasted pick because we didn't get an NHL player but all team's/GM's waste picks on a regular basis. Its better to let his career play out before any labels are applied. If one must be applied at this moment then injury-prone is probably most fitting at the moment. Hopefully he can shake of these injuries, stay healthy and get a shot to prove whether he can be an NHL player or not...
  14. Only benefit to trading Kovalchuk for Eriksson is he has one less year of term and is easier to buy out.
  15. Not all from the CHL but just looking at Tanner Pearson and I checked some random players from the 2011 draft, a nice list of 19/20 year olds drafted. We'd be doing well if Focht got as many games as any of the below chaps who are still active and should all add to their numbers.... Drafted 2019 - Carson Focht - Draft age 19 - NHL games ???? - Drafted out of WHL Drafted 2011 - Ondrej Palat - Draft age 20 - NHL games 427 - Drafted out of QMJHL Drafted 2012 - Tanner Pearson - Draft age 20 - NHL games 388 - Drafted out of OHL Drafted 2011 - Ryan Dzingel - Draft age 19 - NHL games 268 - Drafted out of USHL Drafted 2011 - Josh Manson - Draft age 20 - NHL games 335 - Drafted out of BCHL Drafted 2011 - Andrew Shaw - Draft age 20 - NHL games 504 - Drafted out of OHL Drafted 2011 - Jean-Gabriel Pageau - Draft age 19 - NHL games 368 - Drafted out of QMJHL Drafted 2011 - Matt Nieto - Draft age 19 - NHL games 402 - Drafted out of NCAA Drafted 2011 - Brandon Saad - Draft age 19 - NHL games 530 - Drafted out of OHL
