  1. We are going to end up drafting 11 or 12 ov (and likely missing on the pick per tradition) Nothing better than going on a March heater (again) when basically mathematically eliminated, again. Great job team. This has gotten impossible to support.
  2. Who knows the truth, but trading Miller and that contract for picks would have been absolutely amazing, screw the "young now center". Yes, it's not a center but trying moving those assets for a centerman at the draft, future trade downs (trade 2023 first for 2024 first/3rd type of thing) etc. Also getting sick of the Colorado compairsons. I love me some Petey but MacKinnon is on a different level for full game impact - the game isn't just points.Colorado had a pretty strong supporting crew and did some good asset management in their retool. I am... questioning canucks asset management currently. Like really in the last handful of years 2019 is the anomoly, the rest is really futility of 6-8 / 7-8 (with a pretty good pointles heater in April of 2021). That ain't good folks. We need stuff like this trade to go through.
  3. Just saying the same thing again doesn't really refute what I said - it's a factor, like all things there are many factors. It is daring to simply, strictly ignore the stat. Generally, when someone is minus -87 over 5 years, it should give some pause to question if they are making players around them better, or what is up with the defensive liability of typically being in the bottom 5 of bad a team in the stat. Sorry mate the other things you are saying don't even realy make sense, the OEL one in particular. That trade wasn't to move bad contracts... I believe all the players traded had a year left and we took on salary for term in a greater amount for OEL + Garland (not even discussing how scary OELs contract was at the time it was taken on). Hughes doesn't need his offensive pressure eased, especially "why now" (or was that just a random bold, I legitimately can't tell). A more realistic thought is they just realy wanted Hronek. Hughes play should not matter at all for making a trade at the deadline. His play, that is a maybe, and what we'll see. I'm not sold. I think the Canucks are taking on more of the risk on this, if what you think will happen, happens looks good. There's probably an equally good chance we could be seeing Hronek at his pinnacle, like I'd say PP2 probably wasn't the area of weakness that we should be addressing...... who knows all we have on future play is opinions. It sort of seems like you are just making shit up to seem over confident in your stance. Gluck. Hope the trade works out. I don't think it's a slam dunk, Detroit must not either or else you wouldn't get all the gold being touted for a 1st and a high 2nd. Guess thats a nature of a trade though.
  4. Hronek isn't just a bad +/- he is 2nd worse in the last 5 years, behind only Phil Kessel. That is not just a "bad" plus minus, it makes Sheldon Souray look like a defensive god. Why it constitutes value on a player is it is a healthy indicator of what type of player it is, or how they perform in certain situations. You could do some advanced analytics to figure things out too but it's the same sort of idea. Hronek gets a lot of points on the PP which don't net out but still... it's pretty indictive of situational value (ok now we can score on the PP, lets hope we get PPs, oh shit we're getting blown out 5 on 5 again!) It's not 1 stat the derives value, Larkin also produces at nearly a PPG with 206 even strength points in 321 games. His defense is also a tire fire. He is also the captain of the team etc. so perhaps some intangibles here? +/- is either the most valuable, or the most worthless stat. I'm in the camp of it's important because simply put - if your on a team that is winning and you get a huge plus (see: Patrice Bergeron) you are doing something right. Yeah, you may be getting lucky but usually you are making the players around you better. Heavy minuses are usually doing something wrong but Detroit has been a huge tire fire so this gamble has a chance... but you'd think with the masses screaming "here is our RHD for Hughes!" there would be some more thought hey, maybe we should find someone we know can play a 2-way game. Hronek still has to prove it. Seems ultra risky and I don't quite understand the 'why now' edit: like look we played this game with OEL and he had a lot of other intangbiles, way better points. Lot less at stake here but it's the exact same game.
  5. They are currently taking their learnings to write a George RR Martin style novel on ways to lose What a ride. I've seen some good Canucks teams, I've seen some bad Canucks teams - this is easily the best roster with least performance Canucks team I've seen in decades. At least one of either us or MTL HAS to win tomorrow.
  6. and didn't have a philosophy that was different from the other 29 teams... we are either going to be freaking great, or freaking terrible in 5-7 years. I don't think there is any middle ground anymore.
  7. Yeah but take that objectively....he's the middle of 3 dmen, it shows there is no real consensus which is my issue. He has a lot of talent though this is not a complete dud that is for sure, it is just risky.
  8. Well put ... I saw someone mention OEL on another post. OEL was insanely touted prior to the draft and even arguably better than Hedman by some GMs. A few picks later you have Jared Cowen. It's risky business unless you know the dmen is a consensus gem. Usually the sure fire dmen have a consensus about them, I didn't really hear that with Juolevi.... I do not think I legitimately heard one analyst argue that Juolevi was better than Tkachuk or in the top 5. This is a risky, risky pick by what I am starting to think is a risky, risky management team. I don't buy the story D needs longer to develop so do it now when the BPA is a very, very safe bet. Welcome though, excited to see Juolevi's development - can pray for Teppo Numminen v2.0
  9. My theory is the sheer weight of his forehead and gravity doing it's thing
  10. well,,, at least we traded Lou at a deadline (just a year late ) I'm really starting to worry we are going the Flames route or finishing in slots 9,10,11 perpetually. We also seem to be continuning in alienating our players and forcing them out...... (be it owners or the GM) Guess we'll see, I think a rebuild or at least large scale re-tooling is neccessary at this point, we haven't played great hockey for the better part of two years at this point.
  11. I really don't know what to say about this.... better be a lot of shipments 'out' tomorrow, but I really don't know what FA in there right mind would want to sign here under this regime, so get ready for the Pittsburgh rebuilding method. How we can go from two awesome goalies to none in the matter of a season and in reality have scraps / nice prospects but nothing sure to show for it... I dunno.
  12. Wow ...... what????? That is so illogical I am not actually sure what you are arguing about. You either have to 1) Take the players by their talent and acknowledge that Canada being without Tavares or Stamkos is significant because both of those players are amazing or 2) Take the overall pool of each country, and understand that Canada's is much deeper then Sweden so will have a way to cushion inevitable injuries. Basically - you can't say 'oh they didn't have their A team but Canada's injuries don't matter because they are that deep'. Compare apples to apples not apples to potatoes, why don't we even up it and say a team Finland/Sweden hybrid would stand a better chance? Makes about as much sense.
  13. Horvat and Drouin looked like the best players for Canada on the ice. I thought Horvat was invisible until I realized the scowling Sutter didn't appear to be playing him much.
