  1. I certainly don't expect this but it is possible that either Cracknell or Jones comes into camp and really impresses. Both play C and both play the prototypical 4th liner stye. I also expect that there will be a few interesting waiver wire options once teams start trimming their fat. Calgary for example have Jooris, Shore, Grant, Byron and Granlund all vying the 4th line spot. Obviously some of those guys might play wing but some will have to go through waivers.
  2. While everything you say might be correct about his lack of defense, he might still end up being the best offensive player in this draft. Regardless of how his father might or might not be coddleing him, he was playing with men this year, something that cannot be undervalued and when he did play against his peers in the WJC -18 he dominated. He could well become a Filatov but nothing points to that being more likely than a Skinner IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if a team takes a chance on him in the top 5 and think if he is availible at 6 Benning and Co will have to take a long hard look at him.
  3. Goldobin or Kempe would be awesome if they slipped that far. Goldobin put up pretty impressive numbers on a bad Sarnia team and Kempe I believe is one of the youngest players in the draft, has decent size and looks like an impressive sleeper. I doubt Sanhiem is still around but if we get a late first he might be a guy to go after. David Pastrnak would be interesting as well, lots of skill or Eric Cornel as a safe pick.
  4. All the people complaing about Horvat in this thread will be the same people proclaiming whomever we pick in this draft as the next franchise player. Don't get too high, don't get too low....
  5. I value Morin over Teravainen but I agree that it is probably not enough. I also think Shaw is an excellent all round player and only 22.
  6. Kesler for TB- Drouin and Thompson (Shinkaruk included) CHI- Shaw, Bollig and Morin DET- Tatar and Helm COL- ROR rights, Elliott and Parenteau (Edler included) PIT- Maata and Bennett ANH- Bonino, Silfverberg and ANH 1st
  7. Seems to be refering to Ehlers not Shinkaruk.
  8. Its a highlight reel so it won't be focusing on his flaws so I don't know how you can claim he doesn't have any flaws. That said I think he is an interesting prospect who I would be happy to end up with and think you make a very good point about Kapanen and Nylander who could be in that second tier as well. I really think Ritchie would be a mistake where we will end up picking and would prefer the Canucks to go after some high end skill even if it means a smaller player. This is a strange year in that I could see someone picked at 17 or so still being the best player drafted.
  9. You really cannot compare point totals Schroeder and Gaunce as one still plays in Juniors and the other in the Pro's. Gaunce might be a pretty good passer but so is Schroeder in fact I would argue he was the third best playmaker last year on the canucks behind the Sedin's. Stats don't show this but he was constantly making great passes in traffic and has the patience and skill to hold onto the puck before dishing it. I watched him as much as possible before the NHL season started with the Wolves and he has shown good vision there as well. Maybe Gaunce shows he has better ability but it is extremely rare for a player to be successfull going straight from junior to NHL and the the ones who are do are usually putting incredible numbers in Junior or putting up good numbers in European leagues playing against men. No one knows what kind of role Kesler will be asked to play this season but I really believe that he is going to get the most minutes as long as he stays healthy. I think Kesler will be used against other teams top lines and would surround him with guys that can thrive in that role as well. IMO that should be Burrows and Hansen but I could maybe see Booth there if Burrows plays with the Sedin's. Schroeder should be surrounded by guys with size who go hard to the net, Booth, Kassian and Higgins would be my choices. Gaunce I hope stays in juniors and develops his offensive game to another level.
  10. I haven't had a chance to watch any of his games but in your opinion do you think he can be effective playing the wing? I know he played wing when the Bulls picked up (can't remember his name) last season. I wonder if the addition of Horvat, that Gaunce may have a better shot making this team in the next few years as a winger.
  11. sounds like Gaunce with the game winner and Shinkaruk with an empty net.
  12. You have to read a little bit more of the post than just the line up. He is saying that Kesler's line would be the shutdown line giving Schroeders a chance to be successful on offence like Hodgson was last year. I doubt that would happen as I think AV wants Kesler to be given the offensive starts and have another C ( Lapierre, Malhotra, FA) in a shutdown role. I wouldn't mind seeing Hansen and Higgins on the 2nd with Kesler as a shut down line but has the ability to score some goals. Lapierre Schoeder Booth could be okay as a 3rd line but I don't see both Schroeder and Kesler in the line up at the same time.
  13. Cool thanks, I thought I had read a scout saying he looked ready to play at the pro level but wasn't sure if he was saying he could.
  14. How old do you have to be to play in AHL? is he eligible for the upcoming season?
