#12235604 [Draft] Vancouver drafts Nikita Tryamkin(D) with 66th overall

Posted by Z. Kassian on 28 June 2014 - 08:31 AM

sticking with the draft rankings worked out for us well last year,

this year we could have had Mckeown and Glover - two d men projected much higher than where we would have picked them,

not happy with these niche moves - tryamkin - did we really need to take him in the third?

i think ppl over think the whole drafting thing way too much - they think they know something that the ISS doesn't

Mckeown and glover would have made this draft a home run on top of demko, mccann, virtanen instead we dip into obscurity - which is what we have done classically

He was the second best russian dman at the WJC behind Zadorov. He's not an obscure dman. We didn't have a 4th round pick.

Our answer to Chara LOL!

He did play for Russia in WJC so he is not to be sneezed at. I wonder if he even wants to play for the NHL though.

IMO great pick!! I think for sure he wants to play in NA... why else would he be at the draft as player passed over in 2 previous drafts. Already 20 years old with a full KHL season under his belt. Developed defensive prospect with huge size... love it.

#12175782 6th Pick: 2014 NHL Entry Draft

Posted by Z. Kassian on 30 May 2014 - 09:12 PM

Yay! Now point to a player with his elite skill in this draft.

D'oh!

Well I'd point to Nylander and to a smaller but close extent Ehlers... Those are the closest you're going to get to "Kane" skill... but lets be honest if there was a Kane on the board they'd go 1st overall.

#12164546 Linden Wants Kes to Stay, Right?

Posted by Z. Kassian on 24 May 2014 - 12:17 AM

Fudge I can't go through another season with the "core"

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows

Higgins-Kesler-Kassian

Booth-Matthias-Hansen

Sestito-Richardson-Lain/Archie

Edler-Bieksa

Hamhuis-Garrison

Stanton-Tanev

PUKEEEEEE

I'm really looking for them to move two of (Kesler, Higgins, Hansen, Burrows) and 1 of (Bieksa, Garrison, Edler)

Anything else and I'll have the same feelings as last year.... disinterested

#12156180 6th Pick: 2014 NHL Entry Draft

Posted by Z. Kassian on 19 May 2014 - 08:35 AM

i would prefer us use the 6th pick for a more skilled player. Getting someone with size like "plum" said can be done with our other picks. You can put a guy with size and grit with more skilled players to protect them and they will still get points. Like lucic for example, he is capable of doing it all but wasnt a top 6 pick. I think a power forward after round 1 isnt a bad idea but we need some higher end skill.

I think we took some safe picks and more two way players lately, so Ehlers is a top tier talent. If Dal Colle falls we definitely take him. Nylander is intriguing but he seems to be similar to Horvat skill and play wise?

#12115439 Why the Canucks should draft Jake Virtanen

Posted by Z. Kassian on 23 April 2014 - 11:27 PM

"Virtanen is more of a goal scorer than a playmaker, but he does have decent passing skills and vision as well."

For the love of everyone spouting out knowledge of hockey players they know little about except for highlights and a couple scattered reports....

Tune into the U18 IIHF tourny in Finland: Mcann, Virtanen, Perlini, Fleury, Nylander, Kempe, Draisaitl, Kapenen........

Ryan Oreilly was ppg in his draft year.... same as Gaunce.

His game translates flawlessly to the NHL. It's not just about blowing out the CHL.

Grenier...lol

Considering is Tuck goes the NCAA route...we wont see him for another 4 years anyway. I think in time he will be much better than all you just named

This is amazing! Argues that "Tuck" is going to be better than all the other players without knowing how to spell his name. Not even a russian name...4 letters

#12021011 GM change who is available?

Posted by Z. Kassian on 09 March 2014 - 02:54 PM

Are you serious?....he has experience in the SEL.?...that's a gargantuan step to the NHL..May as well hire the Steamer.

Sarcasm...nice. Well Gillis was just a player agent. Who has more qualified experience to be a NHL GM?

#11973210 6th Pick: 2014 NHL Entry Draft

Posted by Z. Kassian on 16 February 2014 - 01:21 AM

I started the 2013 Draft Thread last year. Thought I'd start it earlier because the recent hype of possibly picking top 14.

Who are everyone's hopefuls for the Canucks this year? Right now we sit at 9th... From after the Olympics to March 5th (trade deadline) will tell alot.

Hopefuls for 9th:
Nick Ritchie
Jake Virtanen
Ehlers

Anyone else worried about the Canucks scouts going into this enigmatic draft? Looks to have a lot of movement from 6-20

#11947000 Dane Fox Talk

Posted by Z. Kassian on 02 February 2014 - 11:28 PM

So, i got some "inside" info on Dane. Not gonna say who, but the knights community and chatham are pretty small.. and people talk. Basically, Dane was traded because of major character issues. Clashed with Knights management over an issue (which wasn't disclosed) and was traded almost immediately after this falling out (which is what it was described as). Basically, whatever happened, it scared off many scouts, thus him not getting drafted, he lost minutes, despite his skill, and the general consensus was that whoever took a chance on him could be rewarded for that chance... but nobody wanted to bite and waste a pick.

and here he is. Skill is undeniable, and was never in question. I've heard from more than one person that said if it weren't for his character issues in the past, he would've been a top40 pick easily.

Wow that's all you could get from your "insider".... Thank you though for reiterating what we already knew right when he was signed a couple months ago. Id like to hear something I don't already know from your "insider"
