I grew up in San Diego, and started getting into hockey by playing NHL '97 with my roommate. I didn't have a local team to root for (San Diegans are trained from birth to hate LA teams, and the Mighty Ducks were a joke), so I was a Red Wings fan. I lost track of hockey after the lockout.
Flash forward to 2005: I moved to Vancouver to go to VFS. My school term pretty much coincided with the 05-06 season, and many of my classmates were (naturally) Canucks fans. Occasionally after class, we'd go to Wings or the Cambie to watch a game. I fell in love with hockey again. And this time I had a team to follow! I've been a die-hard Canucks fan ever since.
Of course, after graduation, they kicked me out of Canada, so I moved to Seattle (much better than San Diego). There's my long "How I became a Canucks fan" story.
And for those who think that because I am not Canadian and became a Canucks fan in 2005 means I don't know anything about Hockey or the Canucks: I have made an effort to understand the history of the Canucks, and spent many an hour watching classic games. I figure if I'm going to be a fan, I'd better know what I'm talking about.
