  1. I see you have the monkeys bug. You're welcome.

  2. This is it boys and girls, the last 7 games of an 82 game schedule. "The playoff stretch", "now or never", "give it your all". Thankfully, the Nuckies have been handed a very well balanced last splash of games. Well balanced? Read on fellow blog readers. If a team who's heading into the playoffs has a lineup of playoff-less teams in the last stretch of games, it can do some major damage to a teams mentality. Let's use Edmonton for an example. The Oilers are way out of the playoff race, dead last in the league. The Canucks won the season series 4-2, outscoring them 19-11. Not to mention all the injuries they've been dealt with. Having a game against the Oilers in the last 7 games wouldn't be positive. The Canucks need playoff-like competition to give them a smooth, healthy transition from season to playoffs. Given the present league standings, the Canucks have a very healthy point gap, with Colorado behind by 5 points with 7 games left. Vancouver should welcome the challenge against the upcoming games against strong playoff teams, and use it to their advantage. -Phoenix is up next, a surprising young team who plopped themselves in 3rd place in the league, and have already nabbed a playoff spot. A measuring stick game for sure. -The Kings, a potential 1st round match-up for the Canucks. The Kings have certainly grabbed a playoff spot, even though they haven't yet, mathematically. Although the Canucks have won the season series (currently 3-0. 4-0 or 3-1 depending on the outcome of the last game), the game is being played at the staples center, where the Kings are 21-13-3. A great road trip/measuring stick/playoff atmosphere game for both clubs. Especially because, as stated above, they're potential 1st round match-ups. -The Sharks are the 2nd to last game the Canucks play, which will be a beauty. With the sharks getting the decision last Saturday, this will be the official measuring stick game for the orcas to see if they can truly handle Thornton, Heatley and Marleau who dominated them, as well as Boyle and Blake. A win against a team like the Sharks is a way more valuable victory than a win against a team like Edmonton or Minny at this point of the season. Not only would the Canucks get the 2 points, the mental effect it would have on the club would be tremendous. A fun filled last 7 games are in store for this team, a lot of measuring stick games to play. There's nothing sweeter than beating playoff bound teams right before they start. Confidence would be 120%, moral up and knowing you can beat them at this stage of the season is a precious thing to have in the back of your mind. Yikes, let's hope it all goes well
  3. The Austrian born forward, a top prospect for Vancouver, is finally getting some fluent ice-time; but people seem to be getting frustrated and impatient with him, which bothers me. Playing alongside Kesler, Grabner has been getting dozens of scoring chances, but the red light isn't lighting for him. Although his finishing skills are lacking, I'm really excited about the number 40. Still a young prospect and tons of time to learn and sharpen his play, finishing will catchup to his speed and raw talent. Since he's started playing early this year, every game, he's been standing out for me. He uses his speed to his advantage, as he should. Michael reminds me of what happened with his line-mate. When Kesler first suited up for the orcas, his speed was too much for his puck handling and was struggling. But after time, and more games behind his belt, it all started to balance out to the player we know today, a player who just signed a huge $30 million dollar contract over 6 seasons. More ice-time and more experience will bring Grabner's finishing touches closer to his speed, when that happens, who knows what kind of player he will be. His speed alone, at this moment, is dangerous; hence all those scoring chances he's getting. Imagine when he can pop all those in.
  4. Very unlikely for the Flames to make it lol.
  5. I'm going to go all out and predict the final season standings, along with playoff match-ups, the winners and the losers of said playoff match-ups, and my predicted Stanley Cup winner and runner-up. My predictions are based on current streaks and plays, team injuries (key players being out), playoff history and my overall opinion. Final season standings: Eastern Conference 1) Washington Capitals*(P) 2) Pittsburgh Penguins* 3) Buffalo Sabres* 4) New Jersey Devils 5) Ottawa Senators 6) Philadelphia Flyers 7) Montreal Canadiens 8) Boston Bruins ------------------------- 9) New York Rangers 10) Atlanta Thrashers 11) Tampa Bay Lightening 12) Florida Panthers 13) Carolina Hurricanes 14)New York Islanders 15) Toronto Maple Leafs Western Conference 1) San Jose Sharks* 2) Chicago Blackhawks* 3) Vancouver Canucks* 4) Phoenix Coyotes 5) Los Angeles Kings 6) Colorado Avalanche 7) Nashville Predators 8) Detroit Red Wings ------------------------- 9) Calgary Flames 10) Minnesota Wild 11) St.Louis Blues 12) Dallas Stars 13) Anaheim Ducks 14) Columbus Blue Jackets 15) Edmonton Oilers Playoffs Round 1 - Eastern Conference Match-ups (1) Washington Capitals v.s (8) Boston Bruins - WINNER= Washington Capitals (2) Pittsburgh Penguins v.s (7) Montreal Canadiens - WINNER= Pittsburgh Penguins (3) Buffalo Sabres v.s (6) Philadelphia Flyers - WINNER= Buffalo Sabres (4) New Jersey Devils v.s (5) Ottawa Senators - WINNER= Ottawa Senators Round 1 - Western Conference Match-ups (1) San Jose Sharks v.s (8) Detroit Red Wings - WINNER= San Jose Sharks (2) Chicago Blackhawks v.s (7) Nashville Predators - WINNER= Chicago Blackhawks (3) Vancouver Canucks v.s (6) Colorado Avalanche - WINNER= Vancouver Canucks (4) Phoenix Coyotes v.s (5) Los Angeles Kings - WINNER= Los Angeles Kings Round 2 - Eastern Conference Match-ups (1) Washington Capitals v.s (5) Ottawa Senators - WINNER= Washington Capitals (3) Buffalo Sabres v.s (4) Pittsburgh Penguins - WINNER= Pittsburgh Penguins Round 2 - Western Conference Match-ups (1) San Jose Sharks v.s (5) Los Angeles Kings - WINNER= San Jose Sharks (2) Chicago Blackhawks v.s (3) Vancouver Canucks - WINNER= Vancouver Canucks Round 3 - Eastern Conference Match-ups (1) Washington Capitals v.s (4) Pittsburgh Penguins - WINNER= Washington Capitals Round 3 - Western Conference Match-ups (1) San Jose Sharks v.s (5) Vancouver Canucks - WINNER= San Jose Sharks Stanley Cup Finals Washington Capitals V.S San Jose Sharks WINNER: Washington Capitals San Jose will bump their playoff slump and will actually do some damage. Joe Thornton will be a top player with Heatley being a top playoff performer. Pittsburgh and Washington will once again meet up, but the decision will go Ovy's way this season, Caps are way too powerful, especially with the great trade deadline deals that made them a better team. Vancouver will make it to the conference finals for the first time since 94, but San Jose will knock them out, purely on goaltending performance. I'm not saying Nabakov is better than Luongo. What I mean is in this predicted playoff series, Luongo will not play like he's suppose to, based on previous playoff performances. Canucks making Nabakov looking like a better goalie will be the case. In the end, the Caps will outplay San Jose, due to Washington's scoring talent with Ovechkin, Backstrom and Semin. The Sharks defense and Nabakov will not be able to handle them. Agree with my predictions? Or not? Post your Stanley Cup winner prediction.
  6. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see Luongo is struggling with his game. You can just tell by the way he moves and his body movement that his confidence is just not there. What do you do about that? Sit him. Am I crazy? Umm, maybe...maybe not. There are 8 games left in the season. Playoffs looming in the horizon for the team. What's more important? What seed you get? Or having a rested, ready to go Olympian goalie? I choose the 2nd option, but that doesn't mean you can't have both. Raycroft has only started 10 games this season in which he played the full 60 minutes, mostly because of Luongo being injured with a rib injury. If he hadn't gotten injured, Raycroft would have probably started around 6-8 games. There's seriously something wrong with that. Good job Alain, kill your goalie. It's getting pretty normal seeing Raycroft getting the nod to play out the rest of the game, along with those goals on Luongo that a junior goalie could save. I am not, however, blaming Luongo on this. I'm going to go ahead and blame the guy in the suit chewing gum. Not only is Luongo playing way too many games, he also played all but 2 games in the Olympics. No breaks son. So what do I propose? As the title says, split the last 8 games right down the middle between Lui and Raycroft. But knowing AV, Raycroft will only play 1 more game from now till the end of the season on the last back to back games in April, either against the Kings or the Ducks and have Luongo get injured playing the last 4 games.
