I still see this technology still being ten years away from anything I'd be comfortable using.

#12416243 The Ayn Rand-Worshipping Sears CEO That Blew Up His Multibillion Dollar Empire

Posted by :D on 31 October 2014 - 12:26 PM

This has almost nothing to do with free capitalism or Ayn Rand.
This is just some guy who spent money foolishly and made really bad investment moves.

But that wouldn't make as good a headline.

#12412139 time to drop the U2 songs

Posted by :D on 29 October 2014 - 12:27 AM

I don't notice the goal song on TV, and I like U2 but....
U2 is totally inappropriate for psyche up music, as a goal song? I can't think of one of their tunes that would work.
I like all kinds of music, but for goal songs you gotta whip out the Butt-rock, that's just the way it is.
I would have a problem if they went totally left fuel and played "ode to joy" or "pomp and circumstance"  (Randy "Macho Man" Savage's old entrance music) bur if they want to play contemporary music they have to go with the Butt-rock or up-tempo hip hop (Which no one really makes anymore)
Look at ANH with "Bro Hymn" or CHI with "Chelsea smile" now those are goal songs!
My vote?
Either "Pomp and Circumstance" (I think the crowd would "duh duh duh" along with it)
Or keep it local, not Bryan Adams, but obscure, classic, local old school rock like Flash Bastard or Slow. Culture snobs would be blown away if they did that. Start either one at the chorus, and THAT'S a goal song!

Culture snobs aren't the ones filling the seats. For every one person that gets the nod, a hundred more will be asking what obscure nonsense the Canucks were pulling out.

U2 gets played because it is high-profile and recognizable to the unwashed masses. It will keep getting played because they have probably spent a lot of money on it.

Maybe the Canucks are contractually obligated to use that song for a specific time frame.
Maybe they used it because it appeals to a broader base than some of the songs you would have in mind.
Maybe you'll have to deal with it.

You sure can tell there are a lot of unemployed people on here by their outlandish claimes

Exactly, after reading the first page, I thought this was a "what I want to be when I grow up" thread. This thread is about how you pay your bills.
