CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for May 20, 2011: Ben Eager Beaver

In this CCC I take a quick look at the Canucks' 7-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks, giving them a 2 games to zero lead in the Western Conference Final. Game 2 had a bit of everything: nice goals, a fight, big hits, and a flasher. I also take a close look at Ben Eager's night of work: in 11 minutes he had one goal and 20 penalty minutes (including one 10-minute misconduct and a dangerous boarding penalty for driving Daniel Sedin into the boards from behind). Ben's eager-ness to get involv

Why They Are Here: Part I

As Canucks fans continue to live in the here and now, digesting every morsel of Vancouver playoff hockey, it's easy to forget the stepping stones that brought them this far. Mike Gillis, Alain Vigneault, and Rick Bowness have proven the cream rises to the top So often in professional sports, media and critics either directly or indirectly raise the question: What have you done for me lately? For the moment, let's fail to adopt that mentality, and recall a former General Ma

CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for May 17, 2011: Rappin' with t.pAk and Jason (creators of "Go Canucks Go")

For this special CCC, I channel my inner homeboy and interview the creators of a brand new Canucks song called "Go Canucks Go (This Is What We Live For)": producer Jason Imoo and rapper t.pAk. We talk about the inspiration behind the song, the writing process, and their hopes for the song. It has a great vibe and very clever lyrics; let's spread it around and make this the Canucks' playoff anthem until we win the Stanley Cup! To listen to the entire song, click here: http://www.yout

CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for May 16, 2011: Game 1 Observations & Showing Off Stanley

This CCC starts off with in-arena footage of the game winning goal scored by Henrik Sedin, lifiting the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks in game 1 of the Western Conference Final. With the help of my son Sean and daughter Kayla, I offer up 5 quick observations of game 1 from being in attendance at the game. In particular, I look at the play of Henrik Sedin and the 3rd line. For the second half of the CCC, I acknowledge that many of you viewers have noticed the

The bit players

http://www.wetcoastsports.com/the-bit-players The Vancouver Canucks’ success in achieving their first 3rd round appearance of the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 1994 is largely due to Ryan Kesler’s “Superman” impersonation – and lesser contributions from the usual cast of characters the like of Higgins – Ehrhoff – and Luongo. Ryan Kesler will be receiving the attention of the best of the San Jose’s defence pairings Boyle and Murray. Boyle leads all NHL de

How to watch the NHL Playoffs in Europe - A Tutorial

As the second round turned out to be a rather unentertaining affair with mostly hard, but not too exciting hockey (which I still appreciate), I decided to cancel a further discussion of the six games against the brave Nashville Predators and wrap it up by naming the main reason why we are still in the quest for the Cup: RYAN KESLER! Now, with that being said, I give you an insight at what it's like to watch the NHL from a timezone that is 6-9 hours ahead of America. Here are my DOs and D

R.I.P. DEREK BOOGAARD. Derek Boogaard, the Canadian born from Saskatoon, professional Hockeyplayer, 28 year old, well known as the "Boogeyman", considered the second most intimidating player in NHL, died on May13. 2011. Western Conference Finals – The Matchup

http://www.wetcoastsports.com/western-conference-finals-the-matchup So the Western Conference finals start in t-minus 24 hours…and the stage is set for what should be an exciting series. Both teams come into this series having knocked off two good teams, and both have had a few days to rest and prepare for the mayhem that could insue if both teams come out firing on all cylinders. The Sharks are coming off a huge win over one of the most experienced, and veteran teams in the le

One less Shark in the Killing Zone

One less Shark in the Killing Zone I’m sure we’re all aware in the wild which animal would come out on top. Now when it comes down to the NHL, we also have two mammoth forces colliding in the Western Conference Final. The Vancouver Canucks vs. the San Jose Sharks, two absolutely power house teams. The San Jose Sharks, like the Canucks have also recently won the The Presidents trophy in 2008-2009 only to lose in the conference quarter final against Anaheim. Then the year following get swe

The dreaded bandwagon

http://www.wetcoastsports.com/the-dreaded-bandwagon I want to bring up something that has been lingering around and taunting Canucks fans for as long as I remember. Anyone who has any type of liking towards our home team is automatically labelled as jumping on and off some sort of rickety old band wagon. Well, maybe not rickety, it is Vancouver after all. The wagon is probably filled with people in their stylish rain gear drinking expensive lattes and happy to be out of their 300 squar

CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for May 11, 2011: Right Here Waiting (for the Red Wings or Sharks)

A couple of days after the Vancouver Canucks eliminated Mr. Underwood and the Nashville Predators in the 2nd round of the NHL playoffs, they are still waiting to see who they'll be facing in the Western Conference Finals. History bodes well for the Canucks, as they have never lost in the Conference Finals (granted...they've only played in it twice in their 40-year history). But they've won both times! In this CCC, I quickly reflect on how grateful I am that the Canucks aren't playing on Ma

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES---REMEMBERING THE VSKBC

Thanks for the memories of fast, exciting professional hockey, road trips, monthly meetings, silent auctions, working the tables, Santa Claus parades and after game skates. These are just a few of the things that will make VSKBC members smile when they reflect upon them. This time last season we were very involved with our 24 Relay Team, Marty's Angelz, busy with fundraising activities. Then as summer turned to fall, we eagerly anticipated the start of training camp. At a Sunday after noon’s

UPPER ESHELON OF 7TH. MAN M.I.A. IN PLAYOFFS

As I looked around ROGERS ARENA IN GAME FIVE OF THE VANCOUVER-NASHVILLE series I noticed Something. Whenever the croud started the wave or were asked to,"MAKE SOME NOISE!" Everyone would get involved. Everyone that is but, the upper eshelon of,"THE 7TH. MAN." As I looked down from my seat in section 311A WC SEAT 3 I noticed very few of the people in the suites or the club seats were cheering. Now I know these people pay more for thier seats than any of the rest of us in the building and t
