The Loser Point Has Got To Go

When looking at the standings this season thus far, there's one thing that's become overwhelming and that's the fact that more teams are finding a way to force overtime and get an extra point out of a loss. When you look at the current standings the Canucks sit in 11th and every single team ahead of them has benefited from the extra point awarded to a team that makes it to o

Team Canada Goalie Duel

The Canucks head out on an Eastern road trip and their first stop is going to be in the Devils' den against Martin Brodeur. A lot of people think, myself included, that that game is going to be a really good indicator of where both goalies are at, and also which is the better goalie. The debate over who is starter is starting to heat up, in part because of the Olympics neari

But we've got some great numbers for the Canucks Community to chew on in this week's edition of Number Crunching. AN OFF NIGHT IN THE DOT What's an even rarer sight than a Canucks home loss this season? A night where the Canucks are dominated in the faceoff dot. Heading into the Sunday's game, the Can

Hansen Playing His Role

I fell in love with the guy from the moment he was called up and played his first game as a Canuck in the playoff series against Dallas. It's been an interesting journey watching him battle injury and overcome adversity at some of the most inopportune times to place himself where he is today as he's grown as a player. During

What Needs To Be Done In December

I don't think that there are many Canucks fans who would have predicted that the team would have been only two games over .500 at the end of November. A repeat of last year's 'November to Remember' certainly would have been preferable. Sure, they've suffered through some injuries, including Roberto Luongo, but pretty much everyone is back now, save for Pavol Demitra. Considering the fact that the Canucks will have a 14 game road trip extending from the end of January until March coming up in

The Team That Can't Score, Does

One of the things that you'll hear at the start of every season (both from the media and the fans) is that the Canucks don't have any scoring. Let's see about that. Canucks 7, Oilers 3. Canucks 4, Kings 1. Canucks 5, Avs 2. Canucks 8, Avs 2. Canucks 4, Stars 3. Canucks 7, Canadiens 1. Yeah, they've got no scoring at all. If they score at least four goals in a game, the Canuck

Still Not A Complete Game

Any time your power play is effective 80% of the time, it’s a pretty safe bet that you’re going to wind up with two points for the win. Which is exactly what happened last night. The fact that it happened against the Oilers made it even better. While having a four goal lead after the first 12 minutes of the game is great, it’s not always the best position for the Canucks to be in. Once they have a lead like that, they can have a tendency to try and sit on the lead, which is a dangerous tactic to

Canucks Knock Off The Kings

I'm the first to admit that I get a little lax when it comes to covering the PPV games. I don't pay for them, and don't feel that I can offer as much just by watching the highlights and commenting on what Sportsnet chooses to show. But I have to admit to being a little pissed off hearing about the fact that people were actually booing when they heard that what was initially thought to be Kyle Wellwood's first goal of the season had been taken away and given to Tanner Glass. Look, I understand th

Scouting the Oilers

For those in the Canucks Community who are prowling around the Fan Zone blogs on this Friday evening, here's a sneak peek at the scouting report against the Oilers. Don't forget to read the entire Canucks.com Tale of the Tape preview on Saturday. After a solid start to the season, Pat Quinn's crew has run into some pretty hard times over the last month. Heading into their last meeting with the Canucks back on October 25th, the Oilers had a record of 6-3-1, sat third in the Northwest Divisi

Scouting the Kings

For those nocturnal Canucks fans (this is being posted at midnight!) who just can't wait 'til Thursday morning for the Game Notes, here's a sneak peak at the scouting report against the Los Angeles Kings. The Los Angeles Kings came into this season believing they would be contenders for a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference and through the first month-and-a-half of the season, they are exactly where they expected to be right in the thick of the playoff hunt. However, for a t

We're at Square One, 23 Games In

With all the injuries at the start of the season the Canucks managed to get out of a sticky situation with too many players on the roster. They didn't have to deal with the bubble players, and they tapped the Manitoba Moose dry of NHL worthy players. With players gradually returning from injury, the question of who deserves a roster spot has to be revisited. The Canucks blue

Canucks record: 12-11-0, not impressive. There was a time after my last post when I thought the team might be "destined" when they had 3 straight wins even with all the injuries, but then 3 straight losses brought me back to reality. The roller coaster ride continues with 2 wins and then another (1-0 Chicago) loss. Good news is we have players back - Luongo, Johnson, Hansen and Daniel Sedin - the past few days and we'll see how good the Canucks really are with a better lineup. I was really su

Stop saying "Two Thousand."

The best thing - and probably the only good thing - about reaching the year 2010 is that we can finally stop saying "two thousand" every time we talk about the year. It is, then, both surprising and aggravating to hear people saying the Olympics are coming in "two thousand and ten," and referring to the movie 2012 as "two thousand and twelve." It's "twenty ten" and "twenty twelve." When people ask you when the Canucks made their last appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals, do you say "one
