5 Reasons Why the Canucks are in the Playoff Hunt

The Vancouver Canucks are 46 games into their season and in the thick of the playoff race in the ho hum Western Conference.   In this episode of Clay's Canucks Commentary, I explore 5 reasons why the Canucks are still in the playoff hunt.

Canucks Mid-Season Report Card

Wow...I haven't posted here in 4 years!   As the team passed the mid-way part over the weekend, I handed out letter grades to each player.  There's an A for Horvat, and A- for Miller, and a bunch of Bs and Cs.   Take a look and let me know what you think!

Clay's Canucks Composition: Season of Cup (Our Team, Our Way)

For my first Clay’s Canucks Composition of 2013, I assembled four of the most talented Canucks fans around to put together a song to mark the start of the shortened 2013 season. Thus, I’m thrilled to present to you Season of Cup (based on Seasons of Love from RENT). You’ll likely recognize most of the singers in this fun video. Marie Hui helped me with my Canucks Medley in November 2011 while Arielle Tuliao and I got together for Don’t Stop Believing back in April for the Canucks’ playoff ru

Clay's Canucks Christmas Carol: This Christmas

For this special edition of Clay's Canucks Commentary, I pull a few friends together for the 3rd annual Canucks Christmas Carol. Once again I am joined by my friends Joe, Oggy, Jason, Pat and the foreign exchange student Kevin. Kevin came all the way from overseas to watch some hockey but he gets something else instead. Last year we put together the Bieber-inspired " and in 2011 we did the "12 Days of Christmas". For this year, we do our version of the classic "This Christmas". Mer

Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 22, 2012: A Season Ends Much Too Soon

In my final regularly-scheduled CCC for the 2011-2012 season, I take a quick look at the disappointing end to the Vancouver Canucks season; a season that ended with 2 - 1 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings handily won the series 4 games to 1. I share some quick thoughts on what issues the Canucks will have to tackle in the off-season and I also draw comparisons to the ending of this year's playoff run to last year's ending. Thank you to all of you, the faithful viewers of th

Clay's Canucks Commentary - Don't Stop Believing (Journey Cover)

The Vancouver Canucks may be down but they’re certainly not out of their first-round NHL Western Conference quarterfinal playoff series with the Los Angeles Kings. Despite the Canucks’ victory on Wednesday night, they are still behind 3 games to 1. With Game 5 Sunday night at Rogers Arena, the Canucks should be able to feed off a loud and raucous crowd. It’s time for Canucks fans to unite and get the behind the blue and green! I brought in my good friend: the lovely and talented Arielle

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 18, 2012: Canucks 3 Kings 1 (Game 4 Reaction)

The Vancouver Canucks earned their first victory of the 2012 NHL postseason with a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings still lead the series 3 games to 1. Inspired by the return of Daniel Sedin, the Canucks went 2 for 3 on the powerplay while goaltender Cory Schneider was solid again in net. The Canucks have more confidence and a smidgen of momentum heading back to Vancouver for game 5 on Sunday night. However, it will still be an extremely difficult task to come back and det

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 15, 2012: Kings 1 Canucks 0 (Game 3 Reaction)

With a 1-0 victory in Game 3, the Los Angeles Kings have taken a stranglehold over the Vancouver Canucks in their first-round NHL playoff series as they lead the series 3 games to none. Looking ahead to Game 4 on Wednesday night, the Canucks will need to come up with their most inspired effort of the season and somehow find a way to solve Jonathan Quick. I appeal to all Canucks fans (both loyal ones and bandwagoners) to stick with the team and stand behind them. It's not over 'til it's ove

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 13, 2012: Kings 4 Canucks 2 (Game 2 Reaction)

The Los Angeles Kings have taken the first two games of their playoff series with the Vancouver Canucks by posting consecutive 4-2 victories at Rogers Arena. In game 2 on a freaky Friday the 13th, the Kings' special teams play was indeed special as they scored 2 short-handed goals and 1 power play goal. Meanwhile, the Canucks went 0 for 5 with the man advantage. Now the Canucks have the daunting task of winning 4 out of the next 5 games. Is it possible? Or course. Is it likely? Even as the

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 11, 2012: Kings 4 Canucks 2 (Game 1 Reaction)

Here's my first playoff CCC...unfortunately after a 4-2 Los Angeles Kings victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The Kings played a very disciplined and smart game and were full value for the win. Birthday boy Alex Burrows was quite prominent: he scored the game's first goal and was also on the receiving end of a couple of massive hits. I'll be going to game 2 on Friday with my wife Gail and I'm looking forward to a better effort and positive result. http://www.canuckclay.com http://www

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 3, 2012: Clay's Anthem Analysis

I'm always fascinated by the national anthems at sporting events. A good anthem can get the crowd engaged and excited even before the opening face-off, kick-off, or tip-off. Conversely, a poor rendition can leave both players and fans distracted and confused. Starting tonight, for Canucks games that I'm at, I will be scoring the national anthems in 5 key categories: 1. Tone/Pitch 2. Pace 3. Ending 4. Appearance 5. Crowd Involvement I'm looking forward to having some fun with this. F

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For March 4, 2012: Zack Attack & Cody's Return (Sabres Vs. Canucks)

Just 5 days after being traded to the Buffalo Sabres, Cody Hodgson returned to Rogers Arena to face his former team. Buoyed by a quick start, the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5 - 3. Zack Kassian, the player that Hodgson was traded for, had a monster game tallying a goal, an assist, and 7 hits in just under 11 minutes of ice-time. Also, David Booth (my favourite player) had a strong game, scoring 2 of the team's 3 goals. As you will see from the interviews, fans in Vancouve

CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for February 23, 2012: The Way It Is (Haters Gonna Hate)

With the Vancouver Canucks' thrilling 4-3 shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings, the Canucks ended Detroit's impressive 23-game winning streak at home and pulled within a point of Western Conference-leading Red Wings (and with a game in hand). Despite the Canucks' great play of late, they were still named as the Most Overrated Team in the recent NHLPA Player Poll conducted by Hockey Night in Canada. In this Clay's Canucks Commentary, I look at some of the reasons why the Canucks are deem

CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for February 11, 2012: Your Favourite Hockey Memory (Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada)

My son Sean and I took in the festivities at the Richmond Olympic Oval for the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada celebration on Saturday, February 11, 2012. We were able to witness a celebrity ball hockey game, some junior hockey, street hockey, NHL awards, NHL Hall of Fame exhibit and much more. We also met Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie, legendary broadcaster Jim Robson, and Captain Canuck himself, Trevor Linden (look for a video blog soon on http://www.canuckshockeyblog.com) I, along with

CCC -- Clay's Canucks Commentary for January 29, 2012: The Last Shall be First (All-Star Edition)

The NHL held its annual All-Star game this past weekend in Ottawa, with Team Chara defeating Team Alfredsson (with 3 Canucks) by a score of 12-9. The All-Star festivities kicked off with the Draft on Thursday night in which San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture was selected 38th overall...or last. While some people dismissed it as no big deal, in this CCC I argue that it is indeed a big deal to be picked last, even if it’s from a pool of 40 elite NHL players. Through it all, Couture handl

CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for January 22, 2012: Proposed New Canucks Superskills Events

I took my family to the annual Vancouver Canucks Superskills event at Rogers Arena and was generally entertained by all of the events: puck control relay, fastest skater, shooting accuracy, hardest shot, and breakaway challenge (footage included in video). As I was watching however, I started to think of ways the Canucks could keep this event fresh and it dawned on me that they could add a bunch of new events. Imagine contests for Hardest Hipcheck, Shot Blocking, Spitting, and Best Hairdo.

CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for January 15, 2012: Welcome Back David Booth

As the Vancouver Canucks kick-off a 6-game home-stand, they welcome forward David Booth back to the line-up after he missed 6 weeks with a knee injury. Booth gives the Canucks more scoring depth, more flexibility, and reunites the American Express line (Booth, Higgins and Kesler). Booth has quickly become my favourite player, and I can't wait to see what he brings with his return. http://www.canuckclay.com http://www.twitter.com/canuckclay

For this special edition of Clay's Canucks Commentary, I pull a few friends together for the 2nd annual Canucks Christmas Carol. Last year we put together http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuJfZVDEHj0. This year, we go bigger and better as we welcome Oggy, Patrick and "Game Day" dudes Andrew and Chris. CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for October 17: Reunion of the Ultimate Canucks Fans

I had a chance to catch-up with my good buddy Matt Hawkins (http://www.matthewahawkins.com) who I met through the Ultimate Canucks Search fan contest back in 2007. In fact, both Matt and I won Honourable Mentions for our respective videos. Now, four years later, I'm doing these CCC videos and Matt is ready to launch a new hockey-related video series: he'll be doing motivational speeches for the Canucks as a "Coach" character. Check out Matt's insights on this year Canucks team and see wha

CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for October 9: Thankful to be a Canucks Fan

On Thanksgiving weekend I reflect on 5 things I'm thankful for with respect to being a Vancouver Canucks fan. I also give a quick shout-out to Canucks Hockey Blog, a great hockey blogsite that I contribute to: http://www.canuckshockeyblog.com As well, I debut a brand new CCC logo designed by my good friend Dave Lee-Son! http://www.claytonimoo.com http://www.twitter.com/c

CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for October 5: Changes in Rogers Arena

We're only one day away from the start of the 2011-2012 NHL season, with the Vancouver Canucks set to host the Pittsburgh Penguins as one of three games on the opening night slate. In this CCC, instead of taking a look at what we can expect on the ice, I take a look at what we can expect off of it - in particular some of the numerous changes at Rogers Arena. While BC Place has received a major facelift, Canucks fans will notice some changes at Rogers Arena - some subtle and some not-so-subtle

CCC - Clay's Canucks Commentary for September 22: Pre-Season Preview

Welcome to the first CCC of the 2011-12 NHL season. I start of this CCC but commenting on the backlash I got from some of playoff CCC's last year. Nothing wrong with friendly discussion and debate, but there is something wrong with insulting my ethnicity, looks, and sexual orientation. As we look forward to the start of the opening season in 2 weeks, I take a look at the battles shaping up for both the forwards and defence. In particular, I express my hopes that Keith Ballard has a great
