It Pays To Lose

http://forum.canucks.com/gallery/image/3307-/ Stop trying to win so badly. That's the motto the Canucks should be carrying with only 4 games remaining. We all know with 100% certainty that the players will be golfing come playoff time. Of course, there are no NHL players in this league that are going to stop trying to win games, but there are other alternatives. Like playing Nicklas Jensen, Frankie Corrado, Zack Kassian and the younger core more. As in, first line minutes more. More im

Canucks Saviour Chris Chelios

It's fair to say that the current version of the Vancouver Canucks is not a Stanley Cup contending team. It's also fair to say that since the Stanley Cup final against the Boston Bruins in 2011, this team has been in a downward trend followed by the free fall over the cliff since January of this year, scrounging 16 of a possible 62 points. As Canuck fans, we have had to endure 3 seasons of a marriage going bad, as Roberto Luongo put it when he thought his days were numbered before Cory Schne

NHL 2014 Draft-How will it play out? (Mock draft and analysis)

Well, the NHL regular season is winding down, and the Canucks currently sit 20th overall in the league. While there are still 10 games to play, the Canucks are not going to make the playoffs this year. There are too many teams ahead of us with games in hand, and our quality of competition is too great. That being said, this isn't a bad thing. Many fans, myself included, believe that it's time to get younger and start bringing in young players who can lead the next generation of Canuck playe

Is this season still worth playing for?

Maybe it's time for Gillis to start thinking about tomorrow Mar. 10 As the season comes to a close, and the ‘Nucks give up 3 goal leads to the likes of a Tavares-less Islander group, the team finds itself four points outside of a wildcard spot—behind a team that’s played two fewer games in the schedule. Things look grim, and it seems that even coach Tortorella has resigned to the fact his first year behind this bench will be a failure. As John Garrett so eloquently framed the scene: this is

Please Mr Aquilini Fire Gillis and Tortorella

Mr Aquilini, If you have any sense take your losses now. Mr Gillis made a mistake.Fire Gillis and Tortorella before it is too late and everyone asks to be traded.By next week your rink will be empty. Stop the spiral.Players don't lose skills overnight, but they do quit playing for coaches and GMs whom they do not respect. I am 49 years old and have been a Canucks fan for 44 yrs, this is a disgrace. Do you want the few fans who come to the games to wear paper bags, thats where it is going. I a

Suggestions Heading Into the Deadline (No Proposals, None)

It is a tough time to cheer for the Canucks, with a season going so wrong from one that had started out so well. Things looked good at Christmas, but it's been really poor since then. There is a lot of reactionary talk on the forum and I honestly don't agree with 99% of what I am reading, so I opted to go the blog route. New posts on the forum tend to either get torn apart or potentially locked, so there's that to consider as well. Throwing away this team's core for nothing or for middling

Not Classy To Complain About the Classic

The Canucks put on a great show today at BC place, which was full of 50,000 plus fans. A great sunday outing for families, which was marked on everyone's calendar since it was announced, the event featured great music, great festivities, great weather (should have uncovered it perhaps if there was snow), and yes, a reasonably great game of hockey. The Canucks and Senators, who aren't offical 'rivals' by any stretch, put up an extreme physical effort for a classic game and matched each other

Heritage "Classless"

The storylines in this game is a writers dream. A struggling team desperate for points, playing an equally bad team, in a stadium of 54 thousands fans who were upset with Roberto Luongo sitting on the bench. Where to start. Let's begin with the most pressing and somewhat dire situation. The fiasco that is now Roberto Luongo and the relationship with the Vancouver Canucks. It is a well documented affair that has the makings of a marriage just staying together for the sake of the kids. Or in

Another Classless and Bonehead move This time Torts you own it!

I have been pretty happy with the moves Torts has made this year but not starting Louie in such an important game as you said was both classless and stupid. Twice this year you have started Lack over Louie in supposed big games both times we have lost. I have to ask what are you thinking.Lack is the backup whether we go 7 rounds in the shootout or has 2 back to back solid efforts. He is not your bread and butter guy. Now you've put Luongo in a very embarrassing spot that a veteran proven classy

The Canucks Should Start Acquiring More Truly Great Players - A History

I posted this in the proposals section, but it probably doesn't belong there as proposals are more specific, like 'trade for Stamkos' etc. And that OP is just too epic. So I made it into a blog. It's my first entry and likely last one for awhile. Thanks for reading if you decide to. The Canucks Should Start Acquiring More Truly Great Players - A History The Sedins are great players, but still down the list of ALL-TIME greats. Bure was better. Probably the best Canuck of all tim

Worth the Fall

4-8-2 in the month of January. What will it take for the Canucks to win consistently again. Is it a mental thing? Or is there something else at play like injuries to Henrik Sedin, Chris Tanev, Kevin Bieksa, Mike Santorelli, and Tom Sestito. The thing is, don't all good teams face adversity each year? Or perhaps this is too much to handle for such a depleted team all the way through the organization. The Utica Comets, the Canucks farm team. They are the worst team in the Eastern Conference

Grading Gillis

I wanted to give the readers a list of the trades and signings that Mike Gillis has done while with the Vancouver Canucks. We can look at the major moves and give him an overall grade on the job so far. But before we do that, it might be interesting to note just who Mike Gillis is, and why he was chosen as the 10th Canuck's GM in franchise History. He’s currently tied Brian Burke for the longest tenure as a GM with this team. Mike Gillis was actually drafted in the NHL. He went 5th overall in

My Birthday Wishes.

Well, it's about ten thirty and the Canucks have managed to typically lose another tight game to a non playoff team. I can't help but think this gives me grounds to tack on a couple of extra things on my birthday wish list. 1. Please Gillis, open your eyes and see that grinders are not getting this team anywhere. This may come as a bit of a joke but our most successful second line with core had Raymond and an old, skilled player as Kesler's wingers. You would think that Sundin and Samuel

15 Days, 6 Games

15 days covering 6 games. That's the length of suspension that Canucks coach John Tortorella received after his well documented and over analyzed visit to the Calgary Flames dressing room on Saturday night. Lost in the controversy however was the 'Where's Waldo' situation involving Vancouver defenceman Kevin Bieksa. If you watch the video above or on youtube, you can see that John Tortorella wasn't the only one who ventured into unwanted territory. Kevin Bieksa found, shall we say, an alte

Mt. Tortorella Erupts

Prior to puck drop on a night when the Vancouver Canucks played the Calgary Flames at Rogers Arena, Canucks coach John Tortorella was given the starting line up of the other team. Tortorella was put in a difficult position even before the game started. Flames coach Bob Hartley's starting line up consisted of muscle and goonery at it's highest level. With Brian McGrattan leading the way, coach Tortorella did not want to match his top line of the Sedin's with the bottom feeders from Calgary. In

Just Not Good Enough

Being a Canucks fan these days is not an easy task. We currently have an 8th place team in the Western Conference that doesn't know how to score goals, can't beat teams above them, and is riddled with injuries. A two goal deficit for this team on any given night seems like an impossible come back opportunity. What's most troubling is the leadership of this group. The Sedin's, Ryan Kesler, former Canucks captain Roberto Luongo, Kevin Bieksa and Dan Hamhuis are supposed to be the voices of r

Why the Canucks Need a Dustin Brown Type of Player

Ryan Kesler, the Sedins. Our "game changers." The ones who are supposed to win the game for us on a few nights. Right now they just aren't good enough. Plain and simple. The Canucks are 0-3 vs. playoff seeded teams in this current part of the schedule, where they face tough competition each night including the next 5 games. Don't Worry, It's the Back-up Goaltender

This year has been a fairly sensational one for back-up goalies around the league. With Roberto Luongo down for the next 7-10 days with an apparent groin injury, Eddie Lack is stepping into his first NHL week as a starter. Lack is 6-2-1 this year, with a 1.93 GAA and a save % of 9.28. Slightly better than Luongo's 2.24 GAA and .920 save %. Look at the following back-ups that have played more than expected this season through injury or stellar play. 1. Martin Jones - He's the 6'4" goalie

How Much Money Is Going Around?

If you haven't heard, the NHL is off to it's hottest start financially in the history of the game. Maybe the lockout wasn't such a bad thing. When you start to break down the numbers though, you realize why ESPN has the NHL on the back burner when it comes to tv highlights and top 5 stories on their website. Below are the different revenues for the big 4 sports in North America. The NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL. Think we pay a lot for an NHL ticket? The average ticket price for an NHL game
