  2. Fuck that. Vey's offense is needed. Wait till after the back to back to decide whom. "Vey on the powerplay" x 3

  3. I agree with everything you said and let me add. To the Canuck's fans that are concerned that Bo Horvat has zero points after four games in Utica. He hasn't been getting top line minutes and I expected that would be the plan all along. He is coming off an injury and is down here on a conditioning assignment. I thought they would "ease him back in" with third or fourth line minutes and that is exactly what they are doing. He hasn't looked one bit out of place and has made several subtle little plays that will never show up on the score sheet. He missed two wide open nets that maybe were due to "gripping the stick too tight" or just some rust that he needs to kick off. But if those two go in suddenly he has two goals in four games and everyone is talking differently about him. The only negative thing that I can say about him so far is he seems to be losing a lot more faceoffs than he is winning which has been a surprise after reading that was one of his strengths. Of his four games I have seen three in person and the other on a stream. I am just a fan and don't proclaim to be an evaluator of hockey talent but he looks fine to me for a 19 year old kid coming off an injury.

  4. Yeah Tues. against the Avs is likely his earliest game if WD is going to slot him in. Personally I think it would be smart to give him at least a game to acclimate before playing any of the California teams. So I'd guess he likely plays the Avs, if not, we may not see him until the following week playing the Sens. Unless they're going to play "sink or swim" with him, which I somehow doubt. Obviously it will depend on other players play too. If Mathias, Dorsett and Hansen all start playing like warriors every night and Vey's till popping in PP goals it's going to be tough to make space for him. But I'd wager at least one guy has an iffy game or two and/or somebody gets some bumps and bruises.

  6. This is the greatest fallacy out there regarding young players: "They will play better if they are surrounded by more talented players." Well, DUH. Take any player in the world and put them next to Tanner Glass one night and Sidney Crosby the next - obviously any player would look better playing with better players. Good players look good regardless of who their linemates are. Look at what Drouin did in the AHL without NHL-calibre players and look how he's doing in the NHL with NHL-calibre players: there's not much difference because he makes things happen and doesn't need to be carried. He didn't even complete his conditioning stint. Arguing that a younger player will play better with better linemates is not only stating the obvious, it's claiming that they are weak and not ready to take on the full responsibility AKA be sheltered by veterans. Bo should be able to play his game regardless of who his linemates are.

  7. Well, he does have a year on those other prospects. I\ve always really dGaunce and I think he is going to be an early call up to the Nucks before any of the others. He has fantastic hockey sense and he knows how to use his size. I think he makes the team before the end of this year. He was #2 overall in his Jr draft and was projected to be a high scoring power forward, with great character. Noteable captain potential. He's a keeper for sure.

  8. Is it that interesting? Seems largely obvious...no?

  9. Why shouldn't he be judged on what he does with the Comets? All the Comet players are judged on what they do with the comets, if he is better than Gaunce, Shinkaruk, and Jensen and more NHL ready, that should be obvious in his time in Utica. It is not.

  10. Matthias was drafted 47th overall. I too, wanted Vancouver to draft Nylander but am quite pleased with Virtanen and will support his progression. He is a very skilled player whose main attributes should transfer to the NHL
    1 point
  11. ^^^ Evidently thinks Virtanen isn't skilled Never mind Shinkaruk and yes Jensen (skilled but inconsistent). Hell even some of our other "2-way" prospects like McCann, Cassels etc have pretty good offensive skill/ability to shoot the puck. I think we're just fine, thanks. If anything (short of McCann/Horvat exceeding their already fairly lofty projections) we're lacking a 1C replacement for Hank at forward.

  12. I still believe we should have drafted skill, considering what this team already has. Kassian - big, physical, cannot score this season. He's been a 5 year project and still isn't really paying off. Hansen - gritty forward, hands of stone. Can't score. Matthias - former 1st rounder, big and physical but again not skilled enough to score. Jensen - former 1st rounder, big body and a bit of skill but has 1 goal in the AHL so far this year and hasn't made a proper jump to the NHL in quite a few seasons yet. Horvat - former 1st rounder, big and physical but is still yet to score a professional hockey point. Gaunce - former 1st rounder, big and physical but hasn't cracked the NHL lineup or shown much goal scoring prowess in the AHL Most of these guys are big strong forwards with not a whole lot of skill, but play a "200 foot", complete game. Therefore, obviously they need more time to develop as players compared to the skilled, speedy kids who jump into the league straight away, but they're still not producing for us. Kassian is yet to make the jump to the top-6 that we've all been waiting for after a bunch of years battling with inconsistency and inability to score goals. Matthias is probably ruined (but we can blame Florida for that). As for Jensen, Horvat and Gaunce, it's definately too early to tell, but none of them are "wow-ing" anyone the way first rounders are supposed to. This team's prospect pool is lacking 2 huge things right now - skilled forwards and defencemen. We've got enough goalies and powerforwards, now Benning needs to start drafting skill, because quite frankly the only skilled forwards we have right now who will be part of our future are Shinkaruk and Vey. Unless Benning is planning on drafting projects he can develop himself while continuing to trade for young skill, he better draft some in the 2015 draft. Benning passed on the best opportunity he had to get a replacement for Henrik Sedin and a future 1st line centerman in Nylander so he better find us a highly skilled future 1st line center in the 2015 draft, because this team needs a future franchise player to build around.

  14. I've watched 2 Utica games this season, and out of those games, i've been the most impressed with Gaunce. He was criticized throughout his draft year and the years following about his footspeed and drive. I feel like he's a bull out there (maybe because he played in belleville) and he's tenacious on the puck. He's adjusted real well and his speed actually looks like one of his assets not weaknesses.

  15. I've enjoyed the movies thus far, but all this feels like a stretch. Also given how underwhelming the Avengers 2 trailer was, I don't find myself caught in any of this hype. I'll definitely give them all a watch, probably most of them in theatres even, but I don't particularly care about any of it. I know who all these people are, in that as a person who has never read comics, I've still run into them all in one medium or another. But it's such an obvious PR and political move to ensure that they included the first black and first female title heroes in this. At the same time though I probably care the most about Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in all these, and the first one was the one that I rolled my eyes at in the last series of Marvel movies, so I suppose they all deserve a chance. But for now, it all remains meh. More than likely this grouping will be the thing that cements my super hero exhaustion. I think the problem is that they're trying too hard to avoid a Batman & Robin type genre killing entry, so they'll just continue keeping everything safe. But after watching the exact same scenario over and over again, I think the exhaustion has to play itself out, especially with those DC movies playing this same angle now.

  19. I'd like Hutton to play out his NCAA career. The NCAA is good hockey and many players can jump into the NHL right away, or the AHL with ease. He'll come more developed and we aren't in need of immediate help for defencemen.

  21. If you're going to b*tch about how hard done by chelsea are, learn the rules. According to Fifa, there are 7 actions in football that can land you a caution, standing in front of a free kick violates 2 of them. Here's a little snippit to re-jog your memory Idiotic: 4. delays the restart of play 5. fails to respect the required distance when play is restarted with a corner kick, free kick or throw-in. Also Idiotic, we we're awarded a free-kick, not a penalty, so your team had ample opportunity to defend the free kick, which they failed to do. United deserved a point and they rightly got it. Deal with it and move on.

  22. Has anyone else under the impression that Gaunce gets no love from any media source, or on these boards? The guy is having an awesome start for this 1st Utica season and gets a footnote of a mention. I like Bo and Shink but this kid is solid too. Another one like him is Cassels, barely gets a mentioned before this year.

  23. Chelsea should have had a penalty for Smalling holding Ivanovic but Rojo and Terry was not a penalty but to say the ref cost them the game is embarrassing. United more than deserved a point. What none of you (shocking) are talking about is that Ivanovic had 3 warnings in the first half before he was finally booked, Fabregas stood 1 yard from the ball every time we had a free kick, refusing to let United get on with the game, a yellow card offence every time. The amount of times Chelsea players kicked the ball away after the whistle, a yellow card offence every time. Whenever Di Maria got the ball he was practically assaulted. No mention either of the holding that Terry and Cahill get away with every corner, free kick etc.....the art of defending that is part of the game, always has been always will be. You have to be stronger to get to the ball. If you want to cry about referees then lets look at the penalties United should have had this season and have not been given. 2 against Swansea, 2 against Sunderland, 1 against Burnley, 1 against West Brom and also look at the penalties given against us that never were.....Leicester and Everton.....again, surprisingly no mention yet it is United that always cry about referees!!!! This thread is comical, the lack of football knowledge here is embarrassing.....stick to the Canucks and hockey boys where you can continue to whinge about referees until your heart is content

  27. I wonder how common a player leaving the team mid season is. I assume he's on a full ride scholarship so he'd have to fork out some cash to finish his degree if he bailed, maybe even to finish this school year. Anyway, for anyone interested, I think his games are on NBCSN again this year. I'm going start downloading some prospect schedules and posting them, I keep missing the games.

  29. college players holding out on contracts ould eventually be a deterent for teams draft. Teams are already hesitant when certain players commit to US colleges, if this becomes a more common trend that Schultz and Hayes started, teams will altogether may start to avoid collegiate players like Russian players, unless they have an absolute agreement the player will sign or that the player will not go to college for too long to hold out.
