  1. that's 2 shutouts per game. I have a feeling he won't be able to accomplish that.

  2. You actually think a ref threatening to and subsequently changing the outcome of a game over a personal matter is the same as 2 players trash talking each other?

  3. Tootoo should have been ejected and suspended for leaving the bench to start a fight. I think this was an attempt to deflect the issue and distract the league by playing the victim card and it worked.

  4. No one will ever score on Demko ever again. Ever. Well, maybe in practice when facing the elite Canuck snipers if someone distracts him.

  5. Burrows going public with Auger's actions was a good thing for the long term credibility of the league, if he just went to the Commish with his complaints, I have little doubt it would have just been swept under the rug.

  6. @sportsnetmurph: League apparently looked into Burrows/Tootoo incident and didn't feel any action was necessary. #Canucks Good, it wasn't serious. We can all shut up now.

  7. just like how Burrows kept what was said on the ice against Auger? But Auger was a POS and so is tootoo so I guess it's all good?

  8. Rodin : "After 2 injury riddled seasons in AHL, I made call to return to Sweden. My goal is to play for the Canucks, good team" #Canucks That's from News 1130 Sports twitter. He seems very open to a move back to Vancouver. The question is the timing, I think he would come by the end of his season in the SHL

  9. Congratulations to Luongo, who has moved into top ten in all time wins for NHL goalies! Luongo, along with Fleury, Miller, and Lundquist are the active goalies moving up the list. I tried to keep this readable. It could have errors, so I'll include the source: http://tinyurl.com/pznzxx5 Interesting things to notice: 1) Not that hard to imagine Luongo moving into top 5 by next year (hockey hall of fame without a cup?) 2) Despite the hard time fans have given Fleury in PIT, he is on the list and moving up 3) Miller is on the list, and could make top 20 this year 4) Hasek has the best GAA of any top 25 goalie on the list, and almost the fewest games played? 5) Brodeur and Sawchuck eclipse the rest with shut-outs. Nobody else reaches three digits. So how high on this win list does Luongo, Miller, Fleury and Lundquist make it? I'll take a guess that Lu makes it top 3. Edit - Here's the 2016/2017 picture emerging as of Nov 16, 2016.

  10. Auger has had a number of controversies throughout the league and not just with Burrows. Auger didn't say "I'll be watching you". He said he was going to "get him back". There's a huge difference in language there and completely changes the intention on Auger's part.

  11. This is a bad example of someone 'Standing Corrected'. As it stands the only person who heard these alleged remarks is the only guy who could possibly benefit from them. -There are microphones and ears every where... -Cameras in the penalty box that routinely show heated interactions between players, if true, this sounds like it would have caught someone's attention... -Officials inside the the penalty box... You were 90% sure Burrows was at fault and yet the league has found no reason to move forward. However, here you stand...corrected.

  12. So let's not skip this because you were so sure. And, wrong. Kind of makes what you say/feel about Burr irrelevant because, in standing corrected, you've missed the mark.

  13. Where to start. "No reason" for Auger to do what he did? There was no GOOD reason you mean. No PROFESSIONAL reason. There WAS a reason for a small-minded short tempered, begrudged person to do what he did. Burrows had lain down on the ice after a hard hit a little too long for Augers liking in a previous game, and Auger thought he had been made a fool of and Burrows was "embellishing" his injury to get the call. Perhaps he did, perhaps the hit actually did keep him down. Alex has no history of embellishing injury. Secondly there was the pregame "discussion" film that Auger had with Alex, which was a rare thing for a ref to single out a player for a talk before a game. Third, look at those penalties called on Burrows which ended up costing the game. Especially that "interference" call in the third. Laughable. And fourth, suspiciously Auger was quietly removed from first Canuck games, and then his job....for what? "Love him as a player, not so crazy about him as a person." I'd think you'd have the opposite view. You actually hate the way he plays (among other aspects, an agitator and trash talker), but you'd find he is very intelligent, respectful, and giving to charity and fans outside of the rink where he leaves all that trash talking on the ice as just part of the job.

  14. The Burrows things was different....it was someone IN CHARGE of the game getting involved in it. Had no place in it. People of authority aren't participants like the players are. And it becomes an abuse of that power when you use it for personal reasons. Unprofessional. Can't compare the Auger thing, sorry CE. And Burr didn't just speak out...he had mics shoved in his face asking about it as I recall. So he answered, honestly. Which was a good thing...when things are swept out of the closet like that. Takes guts to go there. I just find that Tootoo (the pot) calling the kettle black is a bit hypocritical and he should have known that. Sort it out, boys. I imagine he'll have a bit of a vendetta...this is where the Bertuzzi incident needs to be recalled and actions enforced to protect against it. Been there, done this...doesn't end well for some. So any follow up by the Devils should be monitored and curbed or.... swiftly and severely addressed. It has to be concluded at this point but I suspect it won't be. I hope, for Tootoo's sake and future journey, that it is. Anyhow, nice to have closure so we can drop this, as it should be. Go Burr!

  17. This Tootoo cr*p is a diversion from the real point of this thread... instigated by the Burrows haters who look for any excuse to stick a knife in. Burrows is a valuable player on the Canucks... the majority of the fans love him, all his team mates do too. The guys on the other teams... of course they don't. He gets no respect, despite the fact he has scored 35 goals in a league, four times scored more than 25, and is defensively superb. Not to mention he bailed the Canucks out personally in the 2010 Stanley Cup run by putting a knife in the Black Hawks heart... this guy deserves a career pass from Canucks fans for that AT THE VERY LEAST. So those haters... GIVE IT A FREAKIN' BREAK.

  18. I don't know what Burr said, though I'm pretty sure it wasn't, "Hey, friend, after this game is over we should do coffee." I'm sure he was rude. Likewise, I don't know what Tootoo said to Burr, but I'd bet my rent money it wasn't even in the same postal code as, "You hurt my feelings with what you said. You're a meanie!'" So, yeah, they were both probably being deliberately hurtful. (That is, after all, the very simple idea behind trash talk. Otherwise, what's the point?) Still, it's not fair to jump to the conclusion that Burr said anything beyond the run of the mill "Dude, your wife's so ugly I wouldn't..." crap that usually gets said. Maybe he did, but we don't have anything beyond a vague accusation. And while it's entirely unfair to use his history as an alcoholic as proof that Tootoo isn't a trustworthy source, it is fair to use his own hockey related behavior. Remember, this is the guy about whom Getzlaf said (in 2011), "I’m tired of watching Jordin Tootoo out there, a guy who runs around and hits and does everything else but the first little slash, he’s laying on the ice and he’s out the next shift." And the guy that way back in 2009, The Hockey Writers said he was the 8th dirtiest player in the league. And the guy who, despite his claim that he thinks guys should fight their own battles, sucker punched Dorsett while he was already engage in a battle with another guy. After, Dorsett said, "Tootoo was just being himself, being the cheap player that he is and coming in swinging." (So I'm sure that played a big part in Dorsett's reactions last night.) And then, of course, there was the time he charged Miller right after he came back from the Lucic "legal" hit. (And likely, Lucic was heard laughing when Tootoo was suspended.) It's been well established that fighting is not obligatory in the NHL. I don't know why Tootoo got so upset with Burrows, but I do know that if Tootoo himself has no problem stepping in for other people, he should have no problem with another known fighter stepping in for a guy who rarely gets into more than a fight or 2 during a season. (Though to be fair, I'm not even sure when he claims to have challenged Burr. That fight with Dorsett didn't start with Tootoo doing anything other than crap disturbing right off the bench. He gave Burr a light tap from behind, but kept his eyes on Dorsett and willingly engaged in a fight with him. There was no challenge to Burr. Maybe he meant sometime later...) I do know, however, that when the refs have to keep you from hitting a guy already on the ice and you still pull the guy back up by his head, turning him around so you can attack from behind AND when one of your teammates starts a fight with a 19-year-old rookie and then skates around the rink pounding his chest like he just won a MMA fight, you might want to watch those "classless" accusations. Some of them might fall at your feet.

  20. Remembrance Day is fast approaching, that time of year set aside to show our appreciation for all that was sacrificed for the good of others. Hundreds of thousands of men and women have given their time, their health (mental and/or physical), and even their lives in an effort to make the world a better place. They might have done this as a fighting soldier, a peacekeeping soldier, or even as a civilian. War veterans and survivors have lived through horrors we couldn't even begin to imagine. For too many, that was the last thing they experienced before their death. Please, take a moment or two to reflect on what these people sacrificed so we can live the lives we have today. We can't afford to lose sight of how the freedoms we have today were earned. Vimy Ridge, France: Inscribed around the base of the monument are the names of those whose final resting places are unknown. My sig is an example of a portion of that wall. Ypres, Belgium: As with Vimy Ridge, those are names (54,896 of them) inscribed on the walls of the monument. Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae sat at these very bunkers when he penned what is among the best-known poems out there: In Flanders Fields the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. That torch is now in Afghanistan; those men and women fighting over there are now war veterans. They shouldn't be forgotten when it comes to acknowledging the sacrifices made over the years. (Please, no fighting about Afghanistan here; if you must, take it to another thread) Photos from my trip can be found in Post 60, Post 61, and Post 62.

  21. I thank all our military men and women for their sacrifice so that others may live free... my great grandfather was a WW1 vet and I have known many who have served and are still serving their countries. Maybe one day the world will know peace over all lands and countries.....it is something to aspire to and work toward. (This isn't Garth...his recording of this is hard to find unless it's been uploaded in a manner so as to circumvent copyright laws)

  24. "Like" he's the only one. Didn't put words in your mouth. If you're embarrassed by others' actions that's on you...you aren't responsible for others' actions so really shouldn't feel that way. It's their deal. And yes, pre game skate. Been awhile and, really, we should be able to move past that but some are stuck there and attribute everything Burr does in the here and now to a time when a guy had it in for him. And is long out of the picture. Let it go. We get it, Burr isn't your cup of tea. Changes nothing. There are 596 other threads that might interest you then because I certainly don't need to try to change your mind. Don't care.

  26. It's not called karma, it's called playing top teams at a professional level. Puck luck, goaltending, officiating. And if the "refs want(ed) to stick it to us", then that's an issue because they're in place to administer the rules, not be the karma police. I'm not sure why we should care who you have/don't have respect for. Has nothing to do with the comment you made...which was you'd stand corrected. You're doing a piss poor job of it. Ain't got no time (or respect) for backtrackers.

Tell you the truth if I was Burrows and Bergeron was stuffing his hockey glove in my mouth I would have bit also plus bring my stick up so hard between his legs the twins wouldn.t see eachother for a few months.

  41. Yet there are no reports or proof that Burr did that. So perhaps it's ALL a little premature. You're already making assumptions and comparisons based on....no information. That seems a little unfair. He could have said something as generic as "go home to your mother's basement". So let's not react on what we imagine he said. And keep in mind that people often embellish in order to make their case when they're in trouble.

  43. I said this in the GDT as well... Virtanen seems to be finding the game he was playing in Jr again. He's been successfully chipping and chasing around defenders these last 3 games. He just needs get start shooting the puck like he did in his draft year again. You can see his game developing as the season has gone along which is great. First couple games he didn't really look like he belonged but now he's looking much more NHL ready.

  46. On November 11, 1999 Terry Kelly was in a drug store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the stores PA asking customers who would still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us. Terry was impressed with the stores leadership role in adopting the Legions two minutes of silence initiative. He felt that the stores contribution of educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable. When eleven oclock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the two minutes of silence to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect. Terrys anger towards the father for trying to engage the stores clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was channeled into a beautiful piece of work called, A Pittance of Time. Terry later recorded A Pittance of Time and included it on his full-length music CD, The Power of the Dream.
