  2. I think this kind of thinking and message should stop. It is a dangerous way to think and the more people that think like that the less they will take this seriously. If people don’t think they’re at risk then they will continue their everyday life and possibly even become an asymptomatic carrier and infect the most vulnerable. This is a virus that scientists know very little about and we are being asked to stay home because it is very dangerous. I have a mom dad and grandma I would love to see make it through this so just shut up about the “let’s let nature run it’s

  3. Alf, you are truly starting to pick my grits. Stirring the pot for the sake of stirring the pot is only pissing a lot of folks off here. You mentioned the cull.... let it be. Young people and children ARE getting sick. How would you like to lose one of your grandchildren who may have asthma or CF in the 'cull'??? Shrug your shoulders and go "Oh well, he/she was weakly and sick"???? Yeah, I didn't think so...so can you please educate yourself on the FACTS of 'Herd Immunity' and lay off the 'cull' talk. We all heard you the first 5 times, enough already, please.

  4. Everyone should do their part in time of this crisis. The goal is to try to slowdown spread of this virus, in order to not overwhelm the medical system. In Italy they are forced to basically decide who lives and who dies. If you as a person can’t be bothered to stay out of bars, clubs, restaurants, sporting events, travel etc. for few weeks. You can go &^@# yourselves!

  5. Some people on this thread are very selfish. They don't care about others except themselves They claim they have rights and that no government can tell them what to do. Sure, you have rights, but you also have responsibilities. Just because you don't have the virus or are young and healthy does not let you off the hook for endangering the lives of others, especially the old and the vulnerable. And remember, you will be old one day too and what goes around, comes around.

  6. I don't think anyone is asking anyone else to "interrupt everything" in their life. But people will find a way to misrepresent what is being asked of them so that they can find ways to justify their behavior as fighting back against irrational requests. I don't agree with a lot of your post. You need to show symptoms to know that you are sick... but you don't need to show symptoms to get other people sick. That is what is concerning. I don't think people are concerned that you are going to get sick and die. I feel very confident that if I get sick, I'll get over it relatively easy

  7. To those not wanting to be disrupted for a period of time that won't last forever (but death does). It's very disheartening and here's why: This is a new deal and it's still really being "figured out", so if experts don't have all the answers (they don't), we certainly don't either. There's a thing about erring on the side of caution. A disruption of weeks is a pain in the butt for sure. But that's something most are willing to do if it means sparing lives. And it could. If we collectively put our lives on hold, it could save some lives. Being a respons

I am seeing a lot of argument here on how bad or not this is, whether there is a playoff etc. I just spoke with my parents in Vancouver and was shocked people are just going about like nothing has changed. It is a pandemic, which means it is in Canada. People who have the infection is walking among the community. The problem with this virus is that so many that have it and will not exhibit symptoms or be bad enough to prompt people to see a doctor. So they just keep spreading it without knowing it. Don't trust the number of c

  9. Strong point. To add, maybe we should torch all of the insulin in the world , stop all life saving surgeries and kick cancer treatments to the curb. Who are we kidding, all medical research should be brought to an abrupt halt... in fact, you and Nature should probably start up a “go fund me” to finance a war against science?

  10. A fantastic idea! No Frills (and other stores?) are set to open up earlier than usual for seniors only shopping so they can get supplies before the hoarders devour everything. Stores will be sanitized before opening to help protect them. Well done...more of that outside the box thinking to protect the most vulnerable, please. Was just on Global BC News.

  15. Yeah, it bothers me. I have an autoimmune disease (not sure if that could play a role), 3 young kids and my parents are older / my Dad has had health issues over the last couple years. Plus, you never know if you have some underlying health issues you're unaware of. While kids have been mostly fine, i don't think we can live in absolutes with any of this...you just never know. I'm not ready to leave this rock or leave my kids without a Dad...and i'm not ready to lose anyone else in my life either. His disregard for peoples lives is disturbing! It's too bad, because i really had nothing against

  18. Repeating it over and over is trolling for $&!#s and giggles, Alf. We all heard you the first time...the second....third....fourth etc.. You deliberately missed the point. Young people and children ARE dying*....even your quoted stats say they are. If it were your precious grandchild being 'culled' would you just say to it's parents, "No big deal, he/she was part of the cull" Try telling the parents of a child with C-19 that it's no big deal...come on, I dare you. I asked you nicely... now, please, stop with the 'cull' and uneducated 'herd immunity talk. Who gives a &^@# whether it a

  19. I'm having a lot of trouble navigating this. Washington state is the hotbed of coronavirus activity in the US. Yet, a Washingtonian can easily come up here to visit family/friends. Meanwhile, we made sure no traveller from Namibia, a nation with no confirmed cases, can enter the country. I don't see the point in a partial border closing if we keep it open for people from one of the highest risk areas to British Columbians.

  20. I woke from a red wine induced slumber. Checked my phone and saw a message from my sister, a nurse. Canada will declare a state of emergency tomorrow. We all need to batten down the hatches. This will be around for a while. We need to stick together. Rely on one another. Humanity is experiencing something all at once. Remember that. Help those who need it.

  22. Absolutely ^^ This thread is to share information and, hopefully, act as a community in support of one another. People with this mindset: (I won't even correct the spelling because it sort of gives me a clue) need to understand that, for that tiny percentage....they're not numbers. They're someone's Grandma or Grandpa and there are families who will grieve them. They're not population, they're people. I've stayed away from this thread and have tried to be positive because it's really time to steer clear of bickering..there's enou

  23. And nobody is asking you to. There is a balance between putting your life on hold and not putting others at risk. I have walked the dog three times today and went for a run. Yesterday I went to the lake. There are things to do and things to not do and we can hopefully all trust one another to make the right decision. Alf is the lovable idiot of CDC. If he were 30 years younger I'm sure the mods would have put him on timeout long ago. I don't think he should be your compass for decision-making here.

  24. Even if the mortality rate for young people and children was 0%, they can STILL PASS IT ON TO OTHERS who are NOT young people or children. And the fewer people there are spreading the virus, the fewer at-risk people get sick and/or die. How is this concept hard to understand?

To fill the Wetcoaster void, I thought I'd post this: https://www.parl.ca/DocumentViewer/en/36-1/bill/C-442/first-reading/page-16#2 Bill C-442 stipulates that persons cannot profit by taking advantage of the unusual or exceptional circumstances precipitated by an emergency by selling or attempting to sell essential goods that is unreasonable or inflationary for the purpose of making excessive profits. I think it might be necssary for the government to explicitly declare a national emergency before the above actions become criminal... but I certainly wouldn't

  30. That may not be the case. There are studies that suggest people without symptoms are spreading the COVID19 disease. This report is from CNN; https://www.cnn.ph/world/2020/3/15/Infected-people-without-symptoms-driving-spread-of-coronavirus-.html (CNN) -- New studies in several countries and a large coronavirus outbreak in Massachusetts bring into question reassuring assertions by US officials about the way the novel virus spreads. These officials have emphasized that the virus is spread mainly by people who are already showing symptoms, such as fever, cough or d

  31. . I too wish I could just pick and choose the information that suits my own opinion. You are also just casually glossing over the fact that @samurai also included people that were presymptomatic. Do your own due diligence, stop interacting with people. It's going to be a tough few weeks/months, but take some initiative for your own actions, like we all should at times like this.

  44. That's the new partisan divide we're discovering in our society during a crisis. All I can say is I hope you don't infect others, because I don't think you're changing your mind. If you can't sacrifice a small period of time (in the grand scheme of things) with reduced entertainment for the greater good of society, I think we're just very different human beings.

  46. way too little, way too late. It is extremely frustrating to know we had an advantage and opportunity at one point to educate, prepare, implement a shutdown with better control foresight and frankly ability to do so orderly. I was almost hoping the Government just came out and announced State of Emergency, unlocking access to resources, funds and personnel and keeping people home unless otherwise essential not to. We had that opportunity. The segmented and lack of consistency between provinces and the lax attitude around points of entry and for who is mind boggling. I was a fan of
