  1. It kind of cuts both ways, though, Jimmy. You also have many posters here (I’d say a greater number, when it comes to CDC, than the “haters”), who are so heavily invested in years of Benning love and defending this regime, that they can’t seem to admit when mistakes are made or when unwise or unnecessary risks being are taken. If you listen to Clark today, it’s pretty clear that he did in fact have a deadline in his mind, the Canucks did miss that deadline, and Clark was preparing to move on. The Canucks came hard in the end, and they got it done.

  2. How come we didn’t win the Cup with #3OA Erik Gudbranson dominating play for us?

  3. definitely, if the canucks had been able to draft hischier or patrick instead of petey, they would have a couple cups by now no doubt. it's as silly a concept as the "eUrO cApTaInS dOnT wIn CuPs!!!" nonsense from the past.

  4. Yeah, I thought this would be the most unanimously agreed upon W for the organization in some time. Not sure why there’s people looking to find fault in this. We locked up for five years what Kevin Woodley calls the best goalie coach in the league. We should be happy.

  5. the whole premise is dumb. If you listen to Clark's interview, its clear he wanted to be here and wanted to build something bigger. It was also clear from Bennings interview a couple of weeks back he was very confident something would be worked out. Now we know.that "something" was a bigger, and pretty exciting, plan for an actual goalie development department. I don't think this point has been discussed enough, this is a new idea for the team. So yes, creating a new department and a 5 year deal took a while to hammer out. Colour me shocked. Whats funny is

  8. The last team to win a Stanley Cup and have the letter "V" in the club name was 2001 "Colorado Avalanche". In other words: in 20 years no team with a "V" in its name has won a cup. That's zero percent. "L" and "P" on the other hand are pretty frequent cup winning letters. In order to increase their chances they should change the name of the franchise to "Pancouver Calucks", "Lancouver Capucks" or "Houston Bettmannlovers". You cannot win with the current name!

  9. Not to management it wasn’t. And secondly Benning wanted the young ones to test play offs. He wanted to test his players to see, where they were at… It will keep the Peteys and Hughes of the team both hungry for more and believing they are not far from the end product… Wouldn’t base the team place in the standing on this weird Covid season. Toffoli has had a cracking season, no doubt about it, but there were no more dollars in the pot, so that was the end of that… Why is everything Benning being turned around around to something negative? 10. But that's not what happened at all. We traded for Toff because Boeser was out and the team wanted to make the playoffs to give them experience and once you're there, who knows what happens, not because he thought we were cup contenders. We can debate whether that was a right move or not, but there's positives/negatives to both sides. The playoff experience most likely helps our young players out a lot for the next time we get back in. Madden and the pick, who knows if either ends up making the NHL. Most likely Toffoli was brought in with the thought of re-signing him as well, which obviously

  11. With Shaw on board, and a more consistent 3C (either acquired or using a more experienced Miller) I really think Schmidt and our D will have a big bounce back year. Throw in a proper training camp, Hamonic ready for the whole year… there’s enough between: Hughes, Schmidt, Myers, Hamonic and Juolevi/Rathbone that we should look a lot better without even adding anyone. Id still love a shakeup… preferably another top 4 stay at home RHD type. Just saying I really think this group is way more capable than it showed last season.

  12. No one here should “defend” EITHER side. There is no way we would know what happened. This is between two people and two different stories. We are not the investigators and we are not privy to all the facts. This is a matter that is ongoing and anyone who decides Jake is guilty or that the allegation is false is ignorant.

  13. Yes, let's trade Schmidt so that we can then be forced to acquire another top 4 defenceman. Whomever we trade him to, do you think they'd be willing to trade him back to us after? We'll need someone like him.

  14. I, too, had AZ and took the first available second dose option....which turned out to also be AZ. The registration/confirmation deal is a bit of a mess - confirmed Dad's second jab and stated "it's Moderna, right?". Guy confirmed. Then a health nurse called an hour later to say it isn't, so she rescheduled an appointment that would be Moderna. We got there and he was not in the system...I had to show the text from the public health nurse in order to get him in. But I didn't stress over it, considering how fast and furious this process is. 16. No offense to powerplay coaches but I feel like a good powerplay is not that complicated and some coaches over think things. The fundamentals are the same for every good powerplay. Have a good face off man to win the draw. Work it to the point and have a strong point shot threat mixed with net front presence and two one time options that are constantly cycling the half wall. Limit the amount of passing and always be focused on setting up a shot. Shouldn’t be more than a couple passes to get a good shooting option if done right. Hopefully the next pow

I do think its worthwhile having a discussion tho, as we're still seeing a lot of victim blaming which tbh is a bit of a surprise but also tells me it might still be a prevalent point of view out there. That needs to stop.

  18. I feel thankful for all the Canadian staff, whether it's the politicians, the businessmen, and the medical team, for giving us the chance to survive this corona. There are other countries that just don't care about its people, and will turn a blind eye. We've seen examples in the US and in Brazil, but also the rest of the world. Sure, Canada has not been perfect in how they handled this crisis, whether it's their messaging, or their lockdowns, or what not. However, one thing for sure is that the country was trying to keep us safe, while trying not to affect the economy too much. Ca

  22. Head O'brien talked about Shaw, crediting him for helping make it to the NHL. Apparently he's had a hand in not only developing guys like Werenski, Seth Jones, but Colton Parayko and Petrangelo as well, quietly known as the D-man whisperer. Could bode well for OJ, Hughes and Rathbone if Shaw can put some rocket fuel in their development

  25. I think it's important to understand that "negotiations" for new contracts and "deadlines" are often a game of cat and mouse. If Clark really had a deadline set in stone, that would mean he'd already be gone. Deadlines are used as a pressure tactic and the fact that he "increased" his ask meant the deadline was more of a tool than a line in the sand. My ex negotiated contracts for a long time and the process is one that isn't always what it appears to be to the casual observer or those on the outside. It's a game of poker that even involves some bluffing. Don't get

Try this instead https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/woman-files-civil-lawsuit-against-vancouver-canucks-forward-jake-virtanen "She said the two met again in Metro Vancouver in September and she was taken to what was described to her as the team’s training camp hotel. She alleges she repeatedly said no as the player forcibly undressed her and forcibly had intercourse with her without a condom." At this point I'll reserve judgement until later. The reality is, we're probably never going to know

  28. There is no way for us to know whether Jake is guilty or not. Sadly, I doubt the truth will come out or justice will be served either way. Surprised by the number of ignorant and small minded people on this forum. The way the woman is being spoken about, being called a greedy, money grabber etc is horrifying. You are one of the reasons why women/victims of sexual abuse don't come forward. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

  35. Well Boeser was back for the play ins so that is what helped us get into the playoffs. If Toffoli wasn't around we may have lost 10 out of 10 games. At the end of the day Toffoli was acquired to replace Boeser and help us with our playoff push. He was going to be a UFA so in effect he was a rental and wasn't necessarily acquired to keep on a long term basis. At the time of the trade there was no COVID and there was talk the cap would go up in the millions, which would have helped us to re-sign some of our UFA's. At the end of the day the cap stayed flat and we weren't able to

  37. Well, I think I was the first one to mention Woodley’s comments re: Clark in this topic which was also (I believe) the first time I’ve mentioned Woodley in any topic. I don’t think we’ve seen any of the people who may have criticized Woodley in the past now using his words to prop up Benning. I have previously mentioned Friedman’s words on Clark (things he said during an intermission a couple weeks ago). The gist of what he said re: Clark was that Clark was his own guy who marches to the beat of his own drum. Said Clark was well aware of how sought after he’d be and that if he left i

  38. I suppose. Certainly, the pandemic threw a wrench into things and made for a very strange year, and one I hope we never see repeated in our lifetimes. But there was always going to be a team next year, and they were willing to go ahead and do millions of dollars in player extensions, even though it’s much more common practice to leave players late, versus non-cap staff. Like I said, waiting on Green and the staff made sense, as there was a need for review, and their performance wasn’t such that they should be guaranteed re-hires. But Clark, for me, was alway

  41. If we lost 10 out of 10 game we likely still qualify for the play ins. But, in any event we should avoid hypotheticals. You can't justify the Toffoli trade by looking at how it looked at the time and then decree that Sergachev-Drouin trade was one of the worst in history. At the time, Drouin was coming off a 50 point season and Sergachev was still an unproven prospect. The result was a terrible trade for Montreal but at least they still got a few seasons of Drouin. The Canucks literally have nothing to show for the the Toffoli trade, it was objectively bad asset management.

  42. Lol. This is why we sign Taylor Hall for a huge 2-year contract this off-season. Not only does it give us a top 6 winger, but as the OP said, it increases our chances to win a Cup the next 2 years, and the Taylor Hall draft luck gets us the 1 OA the next 2 drafts and gets us Wright and Bedard.

  43. I think it's pretty disingenuous to say that Toffoli helped us make the playoffs considering we lost 6 of 10 games he played. The play ins were the reason we made the playoffs and Toffoli did not play in any of the games we won.
