  2. Impressed that a 19 yr old guy would do this. I hope to live a long enough life that announcements such as this will no longer be required. Some day, people will just treat people like people, all equal and valued. Edit to add: In my short time as a school custodian, in elementary and high schools, I've been pleased to see the younger folk being very much of "Who cares what you look like, or that you are different". Much more acceptance that people are just people.

  3. bringing in a very useful defensive forward in the exact role that the team needs while giving up only a 3rd rounder is something that only the sulkiest little bitch of a person could find something to complain about.

  4. Might just be my homer rose coloured glasses on, but I think way too many people here are writing off Schmidt. He’s a fantastic D and will bounce back this year like I suspect most members of our team will. Covid changed and messed with literally every aspect of life both outside and within hockey, especially so for guys brand new to a team. Some have been effected more than others, but all have had unprecedented challenges. Schmidt was almost a .5 PPG D in the Vegas regular season. He was almost a .5 PPG D in the playoffs. Those type of offensive D men who can also defend and perform come the

  6. The bold is just part of your glaring ignorance when it comes to this player. You claim to of 'watched him more than anyone else on here' and know more about him than other CDC users and yet you keep repeating that he is only 'under contract for 1 year' He is not under contract for 1 year... He is a RFA with arbitration rights. He is currently UNSIGNED and is in need of a new contract. Is he going to be the savior of the Canucks and carry the team to a Stanley Cup? No, and no one here is saying that he will. But you just seem to want to trash every move this team makes just for th

  8. it's almost exclusively pointless noise from people that know next to nothing about NHL systems - who typically under-estimate Green, have already decided that Shaw is the superior hockey mind - based on distant imagination/assumption/next to no information (as opposed to seeing them as complements to each other/another experienced viewpoint). Never a fan of this tendency to play team-mates - and in this case coaching mates - off of each other.

  9. Did u have the same take when we signed Malhotra? 2.5 was considerable for that kind of player at the time. Look at how good Dickinson rates defensively. We need help keeping the puck out of our net, and on the PK. He can do that and he also adds size with speed - two more things we need in the bottom 6. This player wouldn't have been available for a 3rd under normal circumstances. I really don't get bashing this.

  11. I suspect it might be a bit lower in the NHL due to the locker room culture in lower leagues. Prokop coming out will help to change that. Time for the league to back up the You Can Play initiative and give him all the support they are able to.

  13. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/31843069/nashville-predators-prospect-luke-prokop-says-gay-hopes-living-authentic-life-helps-nhl-career Big news for the NHL, WHL, and Prokop. Huge props to Prokop for living his most authentic life and being honest with who he is. Hopefully this pushes more people to be more open about themselves. Absolutely game changing. And as a straight guy with LGBTQ+ family members and friends, this is only a great thing. Pierre Lebrun's interview with Luke Prokop on The Athletic is a great read if you're subscribed: (https://theathletic.com/2711747

  14. Because you refuse to see the bigger picture in his game. He's here to be the #3 centre and replace Sutter. We're not bringing him in to win the Art Ross Trophy. Now if he's good enough to win the Selke Trophy that would be amazing. The Canucks need a shutdown centre. That is what Benning got. I just want a reliable defensive minded forward. If he scores some clutch assists or goals so much the better. If he get's 10-20 points and helps cut down Vancouver's shots and goals against then Benning has done his job. CDC is giving you the rope, you choose to hang your self with it, or just pla

  20. Hard to play against is often evident off the puck, and doesn’t mean hits. Dickinson is always taking away ice from opponents. He makes it hard for them to move freely around the ice. We were the worst team fir giving up high danger chances off the rush. Dickinson will help suppress those chances because he slows guys down, especially through the neutral zone. He’s basically a pain in the ass to play against because he’s always getting in skilled guys way, and not allowing them ice.

  21. Because representation matters. If you're not LGBTQ+ this news probably isn't as relevant to you, but that doesn't make it irrelevant to everyone else. Having athletes, actors, musicians, and so on speak up and be themselves in the public sphere matters, because individuals can look around and be like "you know what, I'm not alone. I can do that too", and that's important. Because it matters to any LGBTQ+ individual who dreams of pursuing a sports dream, or a hockey dream in this particular scenario. Because the world of sports, and sports fans, can be a rather homophobic.

  22. He doesn’t have a year left he is an RFA, he can with face offs 40% isn’t cannot win, especially when you break it down to who is is taking them against and whether he sets first or second. plus not all face offs are equal, losing a clean drop is bad, losing it and making a mess in the dot so the puck doesn’t do anything isn’t to bad, winning it having it go to an opponent may as well be a loss. im not a Benning lover or hater, but to make the team more difficult to play against it’s a good move, especially as he is a top 10 defensive forward. We want players going over

  24. Mostly that’s the case, with us common folk. But did you hear the guy’s interview? He mentioned that his proclamation of being gay was important because he wanted to be a beacon for others, who feel like he does. He said that winning the Stanley would be great, but that he wanted his hockey legacy to be about helping others. Pretty cool interview. Very smart young guy.

  27. How is saying he's a bottom 6 forward who can play #3 or 4 C hype? Hype is seeing the loss of a 3rd round pick as some type of cosmic disaster. You might want to read that article on the previous page which diagnoses him as a pretty good defensive forward. And that his f/o percentage is that he struggles against tougher more experienced face off specialists. Did you expect Vancouver to get Seth Jones for a 3rd?

  28. Except you don't know if you've watched the player more than anyone or not. It's these assumptions that make you sound like a pretend know-it-all rather than someone who actually knows something about the player. Anyone can say anything. I could literally right now say I know more than you, but I would be no more in the right or wrong than you would if you said you knew more than me, so don't pretend if you want anyone to take you seriously.

  30. What's happening with CDC? Strange - the autofill outrage isn't here - the usual pitchfork protests over trading a pick - can barely find a post to that effect. smary folks praising a deal where Benning trades a mid range pick for a defense-first forward... What gives? Refreshing. Almost shocking lol. I, (probably predictably) like the player - the kind of guy I love to see added to the middle/bottom six - that can handle hard minutes, play matchup/shutdown - take some pressure off the top six if able to limit opposition production, create territory/opportunity for

  36. Agree DeNiro, the #9 and #41 are very important picks. Could be the last time they pick in the Top 10 for a long time (hopefully) Benning needs to get those two picks right. Future Top 6 forward (#9) and Top 4 Dman (#41). I'd be thrilled walking away with McTavish and Morrow.

  38. Because gay people still get beaten up or killed for being gay. As I said earlier, I hope to live long enough that gay/different people don't get beaten up or killed for being different/gay. A few years after that stops happening, announcements such as what this 19 year old young man made, will slowly slide into irrelevance.
