I don’t have an issue with the Indians changing their name. I do however don’t think teams such as the Braves or Blackhawks should need to change their name which are probably more akin to says the Vikings for example.

I’m finding it increasingly difficult to know where the line is as to what is appropriate. In corporate culture everything is around inclusion to the points it’s jammed down your throat. Then you see a situation like Holtby’s mask and I really struggle to find an issue with it. Clearly an homage to the local culture and what came before him. Inclusion needs to roll both ways. This can’t be we want everything you have but you must not play in our sand box. So fed up.

Man peaking at the right time. Coming to camp in mid season form have to like his chances!

Crazy situation for the broncos. Obvious nhl parallel is of all your goalies became ineligible. Assuming teams will need to carry a 3rd goalie to try mitigate some of the risk around goalies needing to isolate.

Juolevi is in a pretty enviable spot. Expectations are geared down relative to if he had made the team in his draft+2 season. Just needs to bring the things to the table that got him drafted in the first place and can grow into a top4 role after 1-2 years. Pretty excited for the player after overcoming a lot of adversity.

Sportsnet has a incredible goal by Daniel in one of those head to head best goal of the century polls. Go give our soon to be hall of famer some support!

I have some mixed feelings on this. This is the very definition of cancel culture. You have a young guy at 14 did something heinous. He faced consequences at the time. I haven’t read about subsequent behaviour. Disclosed to the teams he had a past major incident prior to the draft. Gets picked and the cancel mob comes out. if it were my team and I was gm I very likely wouldn’t have selected him but every team had the opportunity to decide if his current character was such that they would bring him into the organization. where does this end? At what point don’t you get a chance to improve? I had a 10 year old on my hockey team last year get a racial slur hurled at him. We dealt with it and both teams learned from it. Do we track that kid down now and torpedo him from playing organized activities and banish him to a salt mine in Siberia somewhere? Especially with minors some consideration should be placed on growing and improving. How would you feel if it were your kid?

You really need to adjust your outlook. Our best guys will be improving each year and likely 2021 will not be their peak year. We added a d man who is better than all other d-men not named Hughes. If you wanted to pick on one area it would be our depth on paper is weaker than a year ago. 2021 will be a volatile year with probably an unusual schedule and the potential for rosters to intermittently lose players to covid. We could be more aggressive in the short term but probably not the best case scenario leading up to an expansion year.

Should Canada begin a military nuclear weapons program?
flat land fish replied to Slegr's topic in Off-Topic General
My son asked why the Great Wall of China was built so I explained how people used to conquer the world(or try to). Really the threat of nuclear deterrent is the only reason no one(country) tries that now. Generally resources Are plentiful enough everyone stays in their own lane. If when that balance is out of equilibrium this quiet period of global conflict will end and if you are resource rich you better be able to protect yourself. -
Should Canada begin a military nuclear weapons program?

If there’s ever a real food crisis or something of that nature having capacity to protect our sovereignty is pretty important. Packing real heat is a big stick to keep others out of our home -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Jake Virtanen
flat land fish replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
That’s a pretty intense way to crush one lol. There was a girl that used to hang out with our circle of friends who would open bottled beer with her teeth(often) Some people just take their party hard to another level. -
Blackhawks core veterans “have had enough”
flat land fish replied to grandmaster's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Dear hawks fans you are about to enter purgatory and you may not leave until your former stars retire or are traded. Given their contracts it appears this will last 5 years. They will set team record’s eventually you get to celebrate the good times retiring a jersey but you will probably not sniff the playoffs for atleast 5 years and being a top team for much longer. Enjoy your cups well earned but the glory days are past you. -
Watching our ufa players sign affordable deals elsewhere sucked but a trade like this is how you get better. Timeline lines up for when Horvat and miller are in their prime and Petey, Hughes and Boeser are continuing to get better. We have some young depth coming up throughout the lineup. Exciting times ahead.

[Rumour] Tyler Toffoli to hit free agency
flat land fish replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think free agency will be pretty slow going tomorrow no frenzy on the forecast -
[Buyout] Alexander Wennberg
flat land fish replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Seems like the buyouts are more active than normal. Considering the flat cap gotta think that puts the squeeze on ufas for a few years. Maybe best to stand pat this year and exercise some patience for the longer term good. -
[Report] Troy 'Tony' Stecher Not Qualified
flat land fish replied to awalk's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
When we had both biega and stecher on the roster I considered them pretty similar players. Stecher has a little more offense and biega more physicality but both undersized dmen who are workers. Some of our young d upcoming will surpass stecher just a matter if 2021 is the year. -
[Report] Troy 'Tony' Stecher Not Qualified
flat land fish replied to awalk's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Stech is all heart but probably not a fit above the 3rd pairing and honestly their could be some great deals made on free agents this year. -
The question for Lind is does he have enough sand paper to play a bottom 6 role. If he does no reason he shouldn’t become a nhl regular even if it’s not with the Canucks.

[Signing] Golden Knights re-sign Robin Lehner
flat land fish replied to Mackcanuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The AAV should be approx market value for Markstrom As well. Anything more gotta walk away. -
[Signing] Sabres re-sign Curtis Lazar
flat land fish replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He always projected as more of a grinder. I’m not sure why he was picked as high as we was but that draft was pretty spotty. Sens probably thought the high floor would be higher but appears to have carved out nhl career
