Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
CaptKirk888 replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
My comment was more about how silly the argument of each players worth here on CDC. There obviously 2 camps here. Yes it will be relevant in a few years for us to be cap compliant and keep everyone we want to keep. But I don’t care now, I am just excited to see what this young team can do in the next 3 years, I predict a fun ride. I will let management figure that out when the time comes (nice of me huh?) as I have no say or control whatsoever in these decisions. I know we all want hockey to start, soon, because imo as a group we are becoming over analytical on all things canucks. -

Hughes has played 5 NHL games. We might want to wait a bit till we pays the big moneys. -

As with Dazzle earlier, I think we agree to disagree. -

This is not just for you, but for everyone reading. Breakout quality you say, how about as a rookie you lead the team in both goals and points, then win All-star mvp and come runner up for rookie of the year? Then in your sophomore slump year you still keeping scoring at the same pace or better? We have not had a Canuck score 29 goals in a season since Vebata’s 31 in 2015. We have something special here, let’s not downplay that because he’s not perfect. Boeser is one of the most skilled players to come along in quite awhile for the Canucks, why can we as fans just be happy and not over analyze the sh*t out of it? -

Never said u were. Would you have said the same of Bo 2 years ago. I think we need time to make that evaluation, that’s all. -

Who made him look like a superstar last year when he had more goals and points? -

As I don’t have issue with BB either. Nor did I with Tanti back in the day. I appreciate them both for what they were/are, pure goal scorers, every team needs them. -

Fair enough and thanks. I suspected from other posts you had advanced knowledge. Boeser reminds me a bit of Tony Tanti, great goal scorer less of a play maker. Different era (goal scoring 80s) but Tanti had 84 goals in his first 2 years here (his first true seasons in the nhl) but only 61 assists to go with that stat. -

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but what experience/skills lead you to this assessment? Is it just your eye test? -

How long do we wait for a complete rebuild? 6 years? 8 years? I have been a fan of this team since the early 70s and not once have I seen management rely solely on drafting to build a winning team. It all works together, drafting, trades, UFA signings. New blood and experienced players looking for a new start bring excitement and hope. In the late 80s this team was coming off 5 subpar years, we had our draft gems (Linden, Bure) and some solid roster players in Larionov, Adams, Butcher, McLean. But it wasn’t until Pat Quinn came in and made a bunch of trades (some unpopular at the time) that the team changed for the better and became a SC finalist. Very similar situation happening now. -
I’m just vibrating right now, Kimmel is just toying with these kind newfies, they don’t deserve to be the butt of his jokes.

Actually it was a NO movement clause -
extension [ ik-sten-shuhn ] 4. an additional period of time given one to meet an obligation: ex: Jim wasn't finished building the team yet, so he was given an extension.

Yah, Bill his gardener, Bill his pool boy, etc

Yah, because that's why he would do that, to save his job. Surely he has no intention of improving the team. -

Fair enough, you are entitled to your opinion, but I don't think you speak for everyone (or the majority even). As a fan, I have a different opinion. I don't agree with all the moves made, but overall I have faith the team is trending upward. -

Any you know this how? Are you privy to the goings on behind the scenes and in the locker room? -
He seemed pretty genuine, but yah, you're right. I don't suppose he would say 'it sucks but my wife wanted me closer to home'. I guess, as with anything in the future, we will have to wait and see. Seemed down to earth too, he was there by himself obviously doing the grocery shopping for the whole family, the cart was full.
