Personally I have been lead to believe that Makar is the real deal. His opposition aside he has ALL the tools to be an elite defender. Explained as an analogy, It's like being able to do a double front flip off a low diving board and all your friends are doing single flips off a higher diving board. You look at the guy doing the doubles and think "wow this guy has some serious skill, it's only a matter of time before he brings it to the higher diving board". Of course this is exactly what Makar is doing next year by going to university (the higher diving board). Will the guys on the higher diving board to start ever get to double flips? Maybe not.

That's ridiculous. Hockey is a sport where opposition matters as well as your teammates. In your diving board analogy the water/board isn't actively going against his flips.

Why take McCann when Kylington is available

Why take Boeser when Konecny is there

    Why trade Bonino for Sutter

Why trade a 2nd for Baertschi

Oh we don't have a true #1 Dman we don't need offense!

God dam it Benning why the hell would you take the best Dman in the draft over the 5th ranked forward?!?!?

    Typical CDC lol

Great pick Benning now trade Edler for Jost!

    1. McCann wasn't the same year as Kylington. Also, Bonino for Sutter hasn't shown what Sutter can do, but Bonino has a nice new Stanley cup ring that he was instrumental in. Not all of JB's moves have been gems

    Imma rant quick:

FRICKS SAKES YOU GUYS DEMKOS NOT LEAVING US WHEN HE'S BEEN TO TWO DEVELOPMENT CAMPS (LIKELY A THIRD THIS SUMMER) WITH SMILES, GOTTEN TO CONTROL THE CANUCKS SOCIAL MEDIA,  MADE FRIENDS WITH GUYS LIKE MCCANN AND CASSELS AND PAYS HIS WAY NO LESS WE'VE GOT A GREAT TEAM COMING UP IN THE FUTURE WHICH WOULD BE STUPID TO LEAVE NOW WE'LL DEVELOP HIM PROPERLY AND WE'RE ON THE WEST COAST WHICH IS RIGHT UP THE COAST FROM HIS HOME IN SJ JUST LET HIM DO WHAT HE WANTS TO DO AND HE'LL PLAY FOR US WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT JUST FINE

There. Ranting is good for the soul.

Really good insight. These kind of facts have helped me with my fear of Demko splitting. Solid post, Jazz!

The problem is, Demko's already accomplished everything at NCAA. He dominated the league inside and out. To me, he's too good for College now. He needs to take the next step and sign an ELC.

As a pessimist I would fear it would also mean he was choosing to go as an UFA the following summer. I don't have the trust some of y'all do.

So when is Tryamkins first game? I know they said they wanted to sit him for awhile so he could get some practices in and get familiar with the team and get him up to game speed before getting in game action.

I think WD said Wednesday will be the most likely the first game Tryampkin plays

  6. Can someone explain to me why Canucks fans shouldn't be worried? Thatcher looks to be a very high quality goalie and should he continue in his college career, becomes available for every team in the NHL. He could sign with the team that drafted him, and be part of a rebuild or he could go somewhere that is in a winning phase. Is loyalty to the drafting club that strong? Should we be worried? I've followed him since we've drafted him and he seems like a total stud, and high character, but is that enough to keep him with the Nucks?

It's interesting to see how little naysaying there is going on around here compared to our other rookies,

not much to pick apart in his game and the goals will come for sure.

He's having an awesome rookie year and putting up good points. Like you said, the goals will come :)

  8. Great series man. I was wondering where you've been the last little while. Good luck in the WS even though I hope the Mets sweep you guys. Would be nice if the Royals could win it this time around - deserve to.

Their pitching scares me, but I believe in our boys :)  Last year was like 1994, nobody expected us to even make the playoffs, this year is like 2011, everyone in KC is expecting them to win it all. Good luck to the Jays next season, should be a threat for a while!

  9. Do you not find it just a tad ironic, that you profess the drafting of tiny players high in the draft, while you have an Avatar of Chris Pronger? An oversized monster, who ate up all who came near, especially the little guys. IMO, unless it's a sure thing, drafting smurf sized guys early is only asking for a failure. Again, I point to our own guy - Vey. Granted we only gave up a mid second, but it still hurts, knowing the defencemen available at that spot in the June draft. Virtanen is a sure thing. That's why he was the right choice.

Alf just stop posting. Your trolling attempts are too obvious.

  10. i really want to see this line during an exabition game:

    Kenins - Horvat - Virtanen

and hopefully this lineup come game 1:

    Sedin - Sedin - Sedin

    Baertschi - Sutter - Vrbata

    Kenins - Horvat - Virtanen

    Prust - Friesen - Dorsett

    Edler - Tanev

    Hamhuis - Sbisa

    Bartkowski - Weber

    Corrado

What happened to Higgins, Hansen and Vey?

  11. Sounds like he could be a bit of a sleeper pick. Good mobility. Good shto - even though he doesn't seem to use it enough. Captain as a 17 year old. Plus he was somewhat hidden on a bad team.

Definitely not a sexy name like Kylington, but this guy could be pretty good.

It also said does not possess a big shot by any means.
