That has to be the shallowest and dumbest thinking I have ever read. I hope you did not stay up all night thinking this one up. If you did, you immediately went back to sleep when you wrote it. Come on man, get your brain in geer and think for a change. You suggest we let go of two players who score 150+ points a year for what??? There is not a team in the league who would pass on the Sedins, yet you suggest don't sign them or let them walk!!! My God, please help this poor lost soul. He has certainly lost his way.

Too many Vancouver fans are impatient.

Burke has been a GM but I bet he can't be a US president. But knowing Burke he probably would think he could.

We all agree young Tanev has demonstrated some potential and ability. He has done very well in his short tenure in the NHL, however, he has many more things to prove of himself before he reportedly starts to make financial contract demands. Right now he only has what his popularity as a player in Vancouver can provide him. It is far to early to start with the statistics argument in his favor. What is it -7 points he has tallied in his very short career? Wow not much there to get all excited about is there, so why even make it a point of debate in this thread. Tanev has little to bargain with at this juncture

It is only reasonable if Gillis and Tanev think it is reasonable. Why not just let the pieces fall where they may. These summertime negotiations are all the same. Both GM and player have several months to jockey for position and it always happens. IMHO I believe this will hang over us until training camp time when Gillis will have a better idea how he wants to align the team. He wants to explore all his options before spending the money. The KHL threat is simply a fart in the wind attempt to get more money. He has to be released by the Canucks before he can even sign a contract with the KHL. So what is the KHL crap about anyway? Gillis knows the game and when to budge at the right time. The media will continue to milk this matter to the best of their ability and put their own spin on it to entice interest to in impatient base of fans. Tanev will end up signing a three year deal for about 1.3M/Year to see him through RFA or to that time where he is able to go to arbitration. Sorry Tanev but you are qualified and under contract. The next move is yours so be reasonable. You have until December 21st to sign or accept an offer sheet. With the cap lowered this year, teams are finding money difficult and Tanev may not have the luxury of an offer sheet for the money he may be asking for. Time for him to be reasonable for the first time in his very very short NHL career.

(Article)NHL goalie rankings: Is Luongo still elite?
Benchsplinters replied to naslund.is.king's topic in Canucks Talk
You compared the three goalies and consider Quick and Lundqvist elite over Luongo. In reading their stats very closely all three are close to each other. The fact that Luongo has been in the league for about 6 more seasons suggests he has been consistent throughout his tenure in the NHL. If one defines elite, you would think the margin between Quick/Lindqvist vs Luongo as it relates to the meaning of the word would not be so close. Yes I still concluded that Luongo is an elite goalie. I also agree that he has demonstrated some better moments in his creer than he showed his fans in the Boston series and some games with Chicago. However, that is now all water under the bridge. The question will now be how will he perform for a new coach, probably in a new system and learn from the lesson he has weathered throughout his turmoils in Vancouver. I really hope he has gone to school, altered his ego somewhat and shows how much of a professional and elite goaltender he really is. Luuuuu now has to prove himself but I would also find it fair to let him have that opportunity before he is judged once again. Good luck to him and the future of our Vancouver Canucks hockey team. -

That was not my argument but thanks for the heads up on that. -

A bad couple of games for both of them and that will change with some of these unforgiving Vancouver fans. -

HUH? That is the first one you got right today. Luongo played in Florida, stopped a lot of rubber there too. When he wanted to get out of Florida he was considered to be a very elite goaltender and the envy of many teams in the league. Florida was a poor team in those days however Luongo somehow demonstrated he was elite. -

YES HE IS. And if he has the right team in front of him, he will undoubtedly prove it to the masses. Put Quick in goal for Florida and I do believe your opinion about his eliteness will somewhat fade. -

You are judging from things that happened in the past and are associating those happenings to the the blame you place on Luongo. -

Do you believe in the past two years, the Canucks were the same team as the year the played Boston in the SC finals. I have yet to hear you speak of the injuries that plagued the team in that series, only your blame of Lou for all the goals he let in. I do not want to take anything away from Quick or Lundqvist they are elite goalies, you are right in that regard. But they also had well coached, cup hungry players playing in front of them that even makes them look better. Let their defenseman hang them out to dry and then you will see their crack in their elites. Stanley Cups are won by those teams that make the fewest errors in a series. Those errors are caused by all players just not goaltenders. -

What you define as reality might not even make the common sense level. It is obvious you are a staunch Canuck fan and that is great stuff, however you need to understand the team concept much better to form a less biased opinion on any player. Injuries, suspensions and poor play all contributed to the loss against Boston. It was just not Luongo' s play itself. Maybe you should be also singling out Edler, Bieksa and a few of the boys who left him hanging out to dry on several of the goals you believe we're totally his responsibility. -

Shake your bloody head my friend. If he was not elite he would not be even considered to represent Canada in the Olympics. And I am talking about today with that comment. Any comments in that regard coming from a person who self professes he knows all about elite goalies. You are still living in the past with your memories about Chicago or Boston. Better catch up to the rest of the world or you are going to be held in the later years for good. For God's sake man get past the past it is devouring your sense of reasoning. You have no argument other than Luongo has not won a Stanley Cup. I can excrete a better argument than that just by eating a can of alphabet soup. Get real. Being a Stanley cup winning goalie does not come close to suggesting other goalies are not elite. That is a figment of ones imagination and a very moronic opinion or statement at best. Can you not do better than that? You seem to be the smart one here so one would expect a better argument than the petty one you are trying to peddle. Winning a Stanley Cup is a team effort and when fools start to realize that fact, they may become more tolerant and less likely to look for scape goats that don't fit into your favorite class of players. -

Bias? Get your bias out of here, hypocrit. You don't like Lou so you diss him from every angle, yet accuse others of being bias. Shame -
It is premature at this time for Gillis to say how things will go. We have to wait to see what happens in free agency first.
