  1. I'm glad other people watched and enjoyed the game. I decided to watch the first leg of the CCL final between Leon and LAFC instead. It was an entertaining game in its own right but I missed most of what sounds like the most entertaining Whitecaps game this season.
  2. One wrinkle: the previous three teams to take a three game lead and almost blow it played the seventh game at home. In this case, Miami, having taken a three game lead, will have to win the seventh on the road. One other thing: Only one 8th place seed has ever made it to the NBA finals. The NY Knicks in 1999. My guess is that they will still be the only 8th place seed to make it to the NBA finals after Monday's game.
  3. I'll be sorry to see him go if he does go. I think he's been one of Arsenal's best players this season.
  4. Highlights of the game for those who may be interested. If nothing else, check out the St Louis first goal at the 1:00 minute mark in the clip. I still don't know how that swerved in.
  5. Celtics 110 Heat 97 (and the score line flatters the Heat) Miami leads series 3-2. Well, well, well. This sets up a very interesting Game 6 on Saturday. It's obviously a must-win for Boston. But it's also an almost-must-win for Miami. If Miami loses Game 6, I don't like their chances going back to Boston for Game 7.
  6. Yep. Wednesday June 7 at 7pm. And while I'm here: The Whitecaps MLS game against St Louis on Saturday will be available on TSN at 5:30.
  7. Whitecaps win 3-0 over Pacific and secure their place in the Canadian Championship Final against Montreal. Time and date tbd. The game will be in Vancouver. This game was pretty much over by the twenty minute mark after two quick goals by Gressel and Ahmed. Then Ahmed went down after a tackle by a Pacific player and stayed down for about 15 - 20 minutes while medical staff worked on him. He was carted off on a stretcher. Scary stuff that overshadowed the rest of the game.
  8. And while I'm off-topic: Oscar Mayer Is Changing the Name of the Wienermobile https://www.foodandwine.com/oscar-mayer-wienermobile-name-change-frankmobile-7499287?utm_source=join1440&utm_medium=email&utm_placement=newsletter In 1936, Carl Mayer, the nephew of hot dog impresario Oscar Mayer, suggested that the company could promote its “German-style Wieners” by designing and developing a vehicle that was shaped like one of those now-iconic sausages. The more-famous Mayer agreed, and the first 13-foot, all-metal Wienermobile debuted in Chicago later that year. The vehicle has gone through a number of changes, upgrades, and adaptations over the past 87 years (including a WienerCycle and WienerDrone), but one thing has remained constant. Ever since the giant drivable ‘dog had a name, it’s been referred to as “The Wienermobile”... until now. Oscar Mayer announced today that it is changing the vehicle’s name for the first time ever, re-christening it as “The Frankmobile” in honor of its new-recipe all-beef franks. The company is deploying a fleet of six renamed Frankmobiles this week, and they’re now being piloted by “Frankfurters” instead of Hotdoggers.
  9. Wasn't sure where to put this so why not here? And it's definitely not on tonight's menu: World’s most expensive ice cream costs $6,696 per scoop https://nypost.com/2023/05/18/worlds-most-expensive-ice-cream-costs-6696-per-scoop/?utm_source=join1440&utm_medium=email&utm_placement=newsletter
  10. Arsenal gets Saka's signature on a new contract: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/breaking-bukayo-saka-arsenal-contract-30054815?utm_source=mirror_newsletter&utm_campaign=euro2020_newsletter2&utm_medium=email&pure360.trackingid=5df9d52c-be54-4b4a-a2d9-23aeaaf01957 Bukayo Saka has committed himself to Arsenal - and promised to deliver trophies. Saka, 21, is one of English football’s hottest properties and has signed a mega £300,000-a-week deal until 2027 with his No1 target to build on this season’s title challenge.
  11. Not sure what happened at half-time. Lakers were dominant in the first half and then just faded in the second. Still and all, a pretty entertaining game. Congrats to Denver.
  12. Interesting factoid from tonight's Celtics/Heat game: There's never been an NBA season where there were sweeps in both Conference finals. Maybe this is the year?
  13. After a bit of googling it appears the game is only available on DAZN. Maybe one of the sports networks will pick it up?
  14. Whitecaps 2 Seattle 0 Well that was a pleasant surprise.
  15. And so much for that prediction. Interesting factoid from the game: no team in NBA history has ever come back to win a series when down 3-0. Teams that have had a 3-0 lead are 149-0.
  16. Given that it was a mean nothing game for Arsenal, it didn't bother me that much that they lost. In fact, those Forest fans were so into the game I found myself hoping they wouldn't be disappointed. And again, I have to admire the way English football is structured. You don't have fans of losing teams hoping their team will lose so they get a high draft pick. Instead, you have fans going delirious because their team wins and succeeds in being only the fourth or fifth worst team in the league.
  17. Down 2-0, the Lakers pretty much have to win tonight. And I think they will. In fact, I think this series goes seven games. I see LA winning all their home games and then having it come down to Game 7. Before the first game the announcers were pointing out that playing in the altitude in Denver has a real effect on visitors. Despite that, the Lakers could have won both games. Getting back to a normal atmosphere in LA, they win. And maybe, by their fourth game in Denver, they'll have acclimated and win that too.
  18. Charles Barkley has his say on Ja Morant:
  19. Well, it's only one game so upsets can happen. But................yeah.
  20. I'm wondering about the culture shock Wembanyama will undergo - moving from Paris to San Antonio. BTW: just how tall is this guy? Googling him, I've seen reports that he's 7'1" or 7'3" or even 7'5". Which is it? Do French measuring tapes only go to seven feet and after that they just guestimate?
  21. A deserved loss in my opinion. The Caps started an offensive triumvirate of White at the point with Cordova and Vite in support. And they did nothing. Granted, Vite scored a goal but that was a gift from the Dallas keeper. Otherwise, the three of them seemed to have no chemistry between them whatsoever. It could have been a worse loss. Dallas had a couple of very good chances that they couldn't put away. I've been a fan of Veselinovic but lately he seems a bit off. Tonight, he gave the ball away to Ferreira and Ferreira promptly scored. I'm starting to wonder about Takaoka. He's a competent goalie but I'm not sure if he's an exceptional goalie that a low scoring team like Vancouver needs. So that's two losses in a row. Next up - Seattle. Which probably means three losses in a row.
