[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread
UnkNuk replied to The Stork's topic in Off-Topic General
Two hours and fifteen minutes? Okay, that's getting there. But I still want to see the average game get down to two hours. Because, let's be honest, two hours of baseball is enough. Am I right? -

I thought these games were supposed to be sped up with all the changes! - UnkNuk (who might watch more baseball if they could shorten the games to about two hours) -
And speaking of Jim Morrison and the Doors:

No music video but I came across this clip of Jim Morrison of the Doors talking about the future of music back in 1969/70. Pretty prescient, I thought:

[Official] Canada's Men National Football Team (Soccer)

After defeating Curacao 2-0 in the CONCACAF Nations League tournament game on Saturday, the Canadian Men's National Team plays Honduras tomorrow - Tuesday - 5pm, in Toronto. If they draw or win they will win their group and will play in the four team playoffs in June. Granted, the CONCACAF Nations League tournament isn't the World Cup, but a trophy is a trophy. The game should be on OneSoccer and FUBO. -
I'm wondering how much say, if any, that Shorthouse has on who gets the job. It's pretty important that there be chemistry between the play-by-play guy and the colour guy.

The Canadian Men's National team starts playing its first games since the World Cup. They'll be continuing their play in something called the CONCACAF Nations League, a tournament that actually began in the Spring of 2022, paused, and is now set to continue. Apparently, that's its format. Canada will be playing Curacao on March 25 and Honduras on March 28. I think the games will be televised on OneSoccer. Info on Canada's team roster can be found here: https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/canada-name-23-man-roster-for-concacaf-nations-league-games-in-march Info about the CONCACAF Nations League tournament and current standings can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CONCACAF_Nations_League and here: https://www.concacaf.com/nations-league/ -

Looking at their remaining schedule of 11 games, I see they have a pretty balanced schedule: 6 games against teams in the bottom half of the standings and 5 games against teams in the top half. Of the games against the bottom half teams, 4 are at home and 2 are away. Of the games against the top half teams, 2 are at home and 3 are away (including the Man City game). -

Arsenal loses to Sporting today in a shootout and is knocked out of the Europa League. -
The bad news is: the Whitecaps lost to Real Espana 2-3 today. The good news is: it doesn't matter. Coming into the match with a 5-0 lead, it means the Whitecaps won the series 7-3 and are advancing to the CCL quarterfinals. The bad news is: the Whitecaps will be facing LAFC in those quarterfinals.

The Whitecaps play the second game of the CCL round of 16 against Real Espana tomorrow (Wednesday). 3:00 on OneSoccer. With their 5-0 lead from the first game, this should be a simple formality. But it is the Whitecaps we're talking about.

There's supposed to be a limit of $250,000 on the amount of deposits that are insured. But in regards to SVB I read that: "The U.S. Treasury, the Federal Reserve and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said the government would back Silicon Valley Bank deposits beyond the federally insured ceiling of $250,000. The decision addressed concerns around the fate of uninsured funds held at the Santa Clara, California-based bank — the country’s 16th largest — which had $209 billion in assets and more than $175 billion in deposits." https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/treasury-says-will-back-silicon-valley-bank-deposits-rcna74570 And I also read: " At the end of 2022, the FDIC reported that its Deposit Insurance Fund had a balance of $128 billion, about 1.27% of the total insured deposits." https://www.barrons.com/articles/svb-fdic-news-what-to-know-10bd0471 So, seemingly, the FDIC will pay out all its reserves bailing out SVB? Or is the idea that the US Treasury and Federal Reserve will simply print more money to reimburse the SVB depositors?
-
The article says: and it also says: Where does the money in the FDIC deposit insurance fund come from? A levy on banks?

So Mick Jagger is an Arsenal fan. Who knew? -
<thud> So much for the hope that Wednesday's scoring outburst would carry over to MLS. A 1-1 draw with Dallas and the Caps only goal was a Dallas own goal. As usual, the Caps had their scoring chances and, as usual, they couldn't put them away. Yes, a draw is better than a loss. But you're not going to win many games if you only score one goal a game.

Don't have DAZN so I couldn't watch it but Arsenal came away with a first leg 2-2 draw away at Sporting in the Europa League: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-sporting-europa-league-highlights-29418057?utm_source=mirror_newsletter&utm_campaign=breaking_arsenalfc_newsletter2&utm_medium=email&pure360.trackingid=d083d551-a419-44bb-9a23-04c26d4d9b9c -

Whitecaps 5 Real Espana 0 A 5-0 thumping of the opposition was refreshing to watch. Now let's see if they can carry this goal-scoring momentum back into MLS games.

Don't know if this has been mentioned here but... For any former Vancouver Grizzlies fans out there, I highly recommend watching "The Grizzly Truth" on Crave. (I think it was also on TSN recently and so may pop up there again.) Self-described superfan and filmmaker Kat Jayme goes on an investigation of why the Grizzlies didn't make it in Vancouver. Along the way, she interviews former players (including Shareef, Big Country and even Steve Francis), management figures (including Stu Jackson), media figures and other fans. Very entertaining and worthwhile.

Yes, 7pm on Wednesday at BC Place. FUBO carries OneSoccer and I checked their tv guide and it indicates that OneSoccer is carrying the game.
