28/51 332 yards 3TDs 3INT There were dropped passes. A number of times the offense was penalized for illegal formations. I don't know what Lawrence's high school team was like but when he came into college he had a very good team around him. He doesn't now.

I was watching, on and off, the Houston/Jacksonville game to see how Trevor Lawrence would do in his first NFL game. From what I saw, this season will be a long, hard learning experience for the young guy. News flash: Jacksonville Jaguars are not a good football team.

Arsenal score a goal!!! Arsenal win a game!!! The march to the League championship has begun!!! -
A disappointing 0-1 loss. The Caps seemed off for almost the whole game. No real threats on goal until the final minutes. The streak had to end some time, I guess. Next week it's down ot Colorado to play one of the best teams in the league. That should tell us something more about this team.

Whitecaps versus Portland tonight (Friday) at 7pm on TSN.
-
Well, three points away from being great. But it was entertaining.

And so after the first three games the standings are: Would've been nice to win that first game against Honduras and be tied for first. But, tied for second, it's a good start. The surprise in these early days is Jamaica at the bottom of the table with 1 point. The October games are away to Mexico (!), away to Jamaica (hope they continue their slump) and home to Panama (who are doing surprisingly well). Hopefully Alfonso is recovered and back with the team.

Wonder how much something like that costs. Wonder whether the money couldn't have been put to better use. -

Disastrous if true. But an online check a couple of minutes ago doesn't show any confirmation. Fingers crossed. -
Sounds like Xi may have been listening to you: Warning of Income Gap, Xi Tells China’s Tycoons to Share Wealth As the country’s leaders prepare for a possible third term, he is promising “shared prosperity” to lift farmers and working families into the middle class. Four decades ago, Deng Xiaoping declared that China will “Let some people get rich first” in the race for development. Now, Xi Jinping has put the Chinese tycoon on notice that it is time for him to share more wealth with the rest of the country. Mr. Xi says the Communist Party will pursue “common prosperity”, pressuring businesses and entrepreneurs to help bridge the stubborn wealth gap that can stunt the country’s rise and undermine public confidence in leadership. can. Supporters say the next phase of China’s development calls for change. https://granthshala.com/warning-of-income-gap-xi-tells-chinas-tycoons-to-share-wealth/

"...extreme solar storms (also called coronal mass ejections) are relatively rare; scientists estimate the probability of an extreme space weather directly impacting Earth to be between 1.6% to 12% per decade, according to Abdu Jyothi's paper." 1.6% to 12% per decade? Ha! Nothing to worry about.

An away draw? We'll take it! But I actually thought that Canada was going to win. Hope Alfonso is okay. Now, if we can win Wednesday against El Salvador we'll have 5 points from the first three games. A decent start.

I liked this photo and comment in the link: This is a picture of an asteroid crater in Arizona - Look how close it came to hitting the visitors centre!

And if they didn't, you could use your axe to threaten them. Next question.

That's a pretty brave group of women: The Taliban fired weapons in Kabul on Saturday to break up a protest led by Afghan women demanding equality, just one day after the militant group insisted that "there will be no issue" regarding women's rights. A women's march took place for the second day in a row on Saturday, as demonstrators took to the streets to peacefully demand human rights protections under the new Taliban leadership. Protesters placed a wreath outside Afghanistan's defense ministry to honor Afghan soldiers who died fighting the Taliban, while others gathered with microphones and demanded that they be able to work, according to the Associated Press. "We are here to gain human rights in Afghanistan," 20-year-old protester Maryam Naiby told the news outlet. "I love my country. I will always be here." But as women marched closer to the presidential palace on Saturday, a dozen Taliban special forces officials fired guns into the air and sent demonstrators fleeing out of fear. The AP reported that Taliban forces also fired tear gas into the crowds. https://www.newsweek.com/taliban-fire-guns-break-womens-march-after-stating-womens-rights-will-respected-1626167

Sam Jones, an American, writes an MLS e-newsletter called "The Daily Kickoff". In todays issue he talks about the importance of home games in Concacaf and I got a laugh out of these bits: "In perhaps the most bizarre and unpredictable qualifying region in the world, you, to be blunt, have to take advantage of the games where the chance a bag of urine gets thrown at your head is lower than 1%." He then goes on about the relative peaceful atmosphere at US home games: "With apologies to Nashville, I just can't imagine the atmosphere in the Music City will be quite as hostile as what went down at Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador. There will, unfortunately for the viewing public, be a noticeable lack of riot shields held up to protect players on corners. Although, now that I'm thinking about it, maybe there should be. I never actually saw anything get thrown toward any USMNT players on Thursday. What if everyone had just agreed to not throw anything but still hold up the riot shields anyway as a piece of psychological warfare. The US needs to find some dudes to hold riot shields immediately. Poor Alistair Johnson might be slightly confused why Nashville fans have turned on him so quickly, but thems the breaks kid."

Jerry Jones was asked about their opening game against Tampa Bay in Tampa. I like the way he refers to Tampa Bay as "the foreign country". https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/cowboys/2021/09/03/jerry-jones-says-lack-of-interest-in-newton-isnt-result-of-uncertainty-very-easy-to-evaluate-cam/?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Why+Jerry+Jones+thinks+this+year+s+Cowboys+can+live+up+to+last+season+s+hype+-+Your+Cowboys+Catch-Up&utm_campaign=Cowboys_09052021&vgo_ee=46G8bPW%2BhKh40Fhdw4JRd%2FlMy%2BOWWuyaZunZiCXh6gI%3D Does playing Tampa Bay have any extra juice for you? Jones: “From the minute I saw it, our chance to go play them, our chance to go to go play them, not come here, go play them, to go right where David slew the giant, to go right there and open our season up away from home in the foreign country and step down there and have the Cowboys go in there and get a chance to show good and come out with a victory. What an opportunity!

This seems like a good place to drop in this article: Nearly one-third of world's wild tree species at risk of extinction A considerable number of the world's wild tree species are in trouble, faced with a risk of extinction, according to a new global report from the Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI). Released on Sept. 1, the group's State of the World’s Trees examination indicated 30 per cent, or 17,500, of the 60,000 tree species it reviewed are currently at risk of extinction. The species that are in trouble range from oaks and magnolias to tropical timber trees. and The report cited farming (crops 29 per cent, livestock 14 per cent), logging (27 per cent), housing and other commercial development (13 per cent), fire (13 per cent), mining (nine per cent) and pulp plantations (six per cent) as the top threats for the tree species. https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/news/article/nearly-one-third-of-worlds-wild-tree-species-at-risk-of-extinction

Well, the Whitecaps were in a playoff position for about an hour. But RSL's victory over Dallas allowed them to leapfrog the Caps by one point into seventh place. Currently, six points seperate #5 from #11 in the West. The remaining twelve games should be a hoot.
-
Whew. That was getting a bit dicey, wasn't it? But the boys came through. Next up - Portland on Friday in a six-pointer. Good times.

As well as the games you mentioned, the Oct 13 game against Panama will be in Toronto. After that, near as I can make out, it's still to be detemined where the later games will be played. https://www.tsn.ca/fifa-world-cup-qualifying-canada-soccer-1.1679792

Whitecaps play Austin today - 4pm on TSN. Depending on how this and a couple of other games go, the Caps could be in seventh to eleventh place tonight.

SIrhan Sirhan, Robert F. Kennedy's Assassin, Recommended for Parole

No, she feels some justice has been done. But that clearly implies that she thinks more justice is due - ie that he should have remained in jail. As to the latter part of your post - that sentences should take into account the age of the murdered person - that's an interesting idea. I'll have to mull that one over. -

Does she though? From the article: In an 2018 interview with the "Today" show, Dorthy Moxley said she was “disappointed” by the court’s decision to overturn Skakel’s conviction, but said that Skakel serving 11 years in prison provided some justice to her family. She says she's disappointed by the decision. In other words, she wishes he stayed in prison. Pretty much what Rory Kennedy is saying in her editorial. -

Came across this startling little factoid: According to figures from transfermarkt.co.uk, the Gunners' current squad cost a stunning £495.95m to assemble, which is more than European powerhouses including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus. Only Manchester City, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Liverpool have spent more in assembling their squads. That will only add to the frustration among Arsenal fans. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/arsenal-transfer-decision-pepe-regret-24888492?utm_source=mirror_newsletter&utm_campaign=arsenal_fc_newsletter2&utm_medium=email Can't imagine the owners are too happy about this, either.
