  1. Entertainment rating: 4 stars out of 5. Would have been 5 out of 5 had there been a few more goals. Those missed finishes can be frustrating to watch.
  2. Exactly what I was thinking. A lack of finish, an inability to break down an opponent's defence when the opponent is leading, corner kicks that result in not much. A disappointing start. But, still, only one game.
  3. Read a surprising (to me) stat in the Sun today: Toronto has three players (Giovinco, Altidore & Bradley) who are EACH earning more than the entire Caps roster this season. http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/soccer/Vancouver+Whitecaps+stack+well+against+Toronto+money+ball/10868891/story.html
  4. The MLS season is supposed to start on March 6th. I'm gonna guess things will go to the wire and they'll settle on something on the 5th. And, no, I wouldn't bet on it.
  5. One bad call we can overlook. Two bad calls? That's unforgivable.
  6. Entertaining game. In the first couple of minutes it looked like the Steelers were going to trample Tennessee. Then, for the next couple of quarters, it looked like the Titans were going to pull off the big upset. Then the Steelers took control again. Very enjoyable for a neutral to watch.
  7. How do you blow a three goal lead? At home? Against Anderlecht? Anderlecht! A team from Belgium. Belgium!
  8. They were. Dallas fell into a common trap. They got the lead and then started playing to defend it rather than going all out for a second goal. And it nearly bit them.
  9. A five game parlay? I admire your confidence. I have enough trouble trying to win two game parlays!
  10. I have an uneasy feeling about this game. The Caps should win. The Caps should get into the playoffs. They're playing at home against a weaker team. And, yet, I can see them blowing it. There! I said it. I got it out into the open. Maybe that will fix things. GO CAPS!!
  11. Just what Arsenal needed: "Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil (knee) out up to three months" http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2014/10/08/germany-arsenal-mesut-ozil-knee-injury-out?xid=nl_siextra
  12. It'd be nice to pinpoint the scoring problem on the departure of Miller. But that doesn't seem to be what happened. Miller left on May 4. In their next four league games the Caps went 1-0, 2-2, 4-3 and 3-3. That's ten goals in four games. Can't complain about that. But then came the break for the World Cup, and then team scoring went down the drain. What happened?
  13. Mainly him having just one season. I'm not sure what you mean by Robinson being "out-coached". Unless you hold Robinson responsible for the forwards being unable to score. Because that seems to be the major problem with the this team.
  14. I'd be very surprised, too, if Robinson was sacked after this season. I agree that he needs at least another year to show what he can do. That being said, it's still disappointing to see how this season has turned out considering how it started. The Caps were 5-2-6 at the start of the Wold Cup break. Since the break, they've gone 3-6-7. In those first thirteen games they scored 25 goals. In the sixteen games since, they've scored 11 goals. What happened?
  15. Yep. The Caps just don't have a player who, when he gets the ball, makes you think he might score. They have no player that gets you excited when he gets the ball. The young forwards, fast as they are, likely as not will stumble over the ball when they get it. Occasionally a midfielder will make a decent shot. Their best chance at scoring in this last part of the season has been trying to get a penalty shot. And even if they squeak into the playoffs, there's no reason to expect they'll get past the wild card round. Considering how the season started, quite disappointing.
  16. Because Manneh and Mattocks aren't that much better? The young guys just haven't come through. Yet. I haven't given up on any of them. But, in the meantime, the Caps desperately need an accomplished striker. Barring such a signing, at this point, based on his play today, I almost think it would be worthwhile to try Rosales up front At least he seems to be able to control the ball and doesn't seem to panic when he gets close to the net.
  17. And Seattle does Vancouver another favour - beating Colorado 1 - 0. Now, if the Caps can take care of business tonight against Portland, they'll have a bit of breathing room in the playoff race.
  18. Just eyeballing this list, Group E looks pretty formidable.
  19. Alexis Sanchez scores a $14 million dollar goal* and Arsenal squeaks into the Champions League group stage. Not a bad game with a harrowing finish after Arsenal had a man (Debuchy) sent off with two yellows. *every team that makes it to the group stage gets $14 million. Maybe Wenger can now afford to sign another striker with these stories that Giroud is out for several months.
  20. Seattle did the Caps a favour - beating Portland 4 - 2. Should be an inneresting game this Saturday against the Timbers.
  21. It was only 45 minutes but Rosales looks like he might be able to contribute something to this team. Now, if we could only get a striker.
