  1. The Caps fizzle again. Two points out of three games against the team with the poorest record in the West. And they only managed a draw against Montreal, the team with the worst record in MLS. Very disappointing.
  2. NIce to see Arsenal start the season off with a win - the only home team to win on the day. Not a particularly exciting game to watch, but a win is a win. Didn't think newcomers Sanago and Sanchez did all that much in their debuts. Terrific header by Koscielny.
  3. That's true - he has done his job as a band-aid. He's a back-up quarterback. Filling in for #1 he's got a .500 record, which is about what you expect from a back-up. He's allowing the team to tread water until Lulay gets back.
  4. I like him on the panel. Not so much as a colour guy. I think Chris Shultz would make a good colour commentator. He's usually got insightful things to say on the panel.
  5. Some 0-0 games can be quite entertaining. This wasn't one of them. <yawn>
  6. You've convinced me that you should go to the Lazio/Cesena game.
  7. I missed the game but I watched the highlights. Can't say I was overly impressed with the way Ousted screamed at Mitchell after the handball. Granted, it was a dumb play. But that type of screaming should be done by the coach, not another player.
  8. Yep. Bad calls are part of the game. When they go against you, you have to deal with them. When they go for you, you have to take advantage of them.
  9. Little bit of trivia that many here may already know but I didn't: "Real" means "royal" in Spanish. I was wondering why they called it "Real Salt Lake" or, for that matter, "Real Madrid". Now I know. More info here about the Spanish origin of "real": http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/what-does-real-mean-in-a-teams-name.139290/
  10. It would be nice to see the Caps score more goals. But, as far as today's game went, I thought Toronto's defense played very well.
  11. Another lacklustre effort by the Whitecaps. I don't know what the Caps did over the World Cup break but they haven't been the same team since they got back. And next they have to face the Sounders. Hopefully they get their act together otherwise that game could be a home embarrassment.
  12. One good thing is that the other AL East teams are also cold. Today, for instance, while Boston won, the Yankees, Rays and Orioles all lost.
  13. I like Carl Robinson's comment on the game: "The club is moving in the right direction. Away from home we score three, pick up a point and are disappointed."
  14. Surprising how a game can change from half to half.
  15. I see both Whitecap goals on Saturday have been nominated for goal-of-the-week: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2014/05/27/vote-now-2014-att-mls-goal-week-week-12 I voted for Hurtado's.
  16. Terrific FA Cup Final today, I thought. Arsenal made it interesting by spotting Hull two (and nearly three) goals to start. But what started out looking like a disaster for Arsenal morphed into what looked like an inevitable win by the Gunners as they game went on. Although I thought that character who was engraving Arsenal's name on the Cup with five minutes left in overtime might jinx them. Cheers to Wenger and the lads. A question, though, for anyone who is familiar with the English league: What counts more for the fans - winning the League title or winning the FA Cup?
  17. The lack of finish can be frustrating. But it's a young team. And I think (hope) they're going to learn. And if/when they do they are going to obliterate some teams. I really think there's a lot of scoring potential on the team. As far as Hurtado goes, I thought one of the tv announcers nailed it: he always looks like he's out of control. But again, with game experience, I think he can put it together and he should be fun to watch. That goal he scored was a beauty - that little back kick to himself then POW! I would also like to see more of Salgado. Yet another young player with lots of potential.
  18. And if the Caps could get a veteran striker who's really dangerous, they could be a scoring machine with the potential that inheres in those young strikers.
  19. Apparently the current transfer window closes May 12, so, hopefully, the Whitecaps might be signing someone very soon. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2014/05/04/vancouver-whitecaps-and-designated-player-forward-kenny-miller-mutually-agre
  20. There's a theory that the Canucks have settled on their gm and are awaiting the team he is currently on to be bounced from the playoffs so they can sign him. And that they cleared the Torts question with him before the firing. They didn't wait until the actual signing of this new gm because they didn't want to leave Torts hanging out to dry. Sounds plausible to me, especially if it's true.
  21. NIce comeback. But it was RSL blowing two points rather than the Caps clawing back a point. RSL played the second half like the game was already over. But it's still a nice point to get.
  22. I believe it's his second goal of the season. But it did tie the game.
  23. Camilo come back, all is forgiven! Man, this team needs a goal-scorer - four goals scored in the last five and one-half games.
  24. I think/expect he will. He's only 19(!). I think he'll learn to finish and then....watch out. And I expect the same of Mattocks. He's 23 which, I guess, isn't young for an athlete. But he still has time to develop another dimension (finishing) to his game.
