Frustrating. With the speed on their team and a midfielder like Morales, I'd expect the Caps to score a bushel of goals. And they don't. And yet I'm still expecting them to explode one of these games. Maybe then they'll be off to the races.

I'm glad Trevor was signed as President. The one concern I have is the effect this position might have on him. I'd hate to see him -- after four or five years of dealing with the fans, the owners and the team in this city -- weighing 250 lbs, smoking, alcoholic, watching the Canucks lose another game as the fans chant: "Fire Lin-Den Fire Lin-Den". But best of luck, Trevor.

[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread
UnkNuk replied to The Stork's topic in Off-Topic General
The Jays best chance of making it to the playoffs is to get out of the AL East. Barring that, we can sit back and enjoy the first third of the season. By then, they'll probably be out of it and we can start to cherry-pick-watch the teams we think might have a chance. -
That's a bad one. Granted the second yellow on Laba was controversial, but that's still no excuse for the team to fall apart like that. (And, btw, why didn't some other Cap warn Laba that the Colorado player was coming on behind him? Laba seemed totally unaware the Colorado player was coming.) Now the Caps have to play a home and home against the Galaxy. Let's hope they can rebound from this. Otherwise we might be looking back at this game as the beginning of a downward spiral.

[GDT] Canucks - Kings Saturday April 5th 7:00 PM
UnkNuk replied to Alex the Great's topic in Canucks Talk
I admire your optimism, Plum. But do you really believe that if this team somehow, miraculously, made the playoffs, that they would have an equal chance as Boston, or Los Angeles, or Anaheim, or..... As far as getting a few guys back and getting somewhere - maybe if those guys were a young Bure, a young Linden, and a young Naslund. But I do admire your optimism. -
[GDT] CANUCKS - RANGERS 7PM TUESDAY APRIL 1ST
UnkNuk replied to Alex the Great's topic in Canucks Talk
Sure, especially if I forget that Phoenix still has two games in hand and Dallas has one. -
Anaheim 3 Canucks 1 Immediately after the game the optimists point out that if Dallas, Phoenix and Minnesota lose all their remaining games and the Canucks win out we can still finish in seventh place. The realists all say "We told you so!" and rejoice that the Canucks have held onto their 1.5% chance of winning the draft lottery and generally make themselves annoying. Everyone else gets ready for the Rangers and V's return.

An entertaining game that could have gone several ways. That Houston defender, Horst, seems to be a mean sob. Pretty big and pretty careless with his elbows. Don't know what happened between him and Morales but I wasn't impressed with Horst yelling at Morales as Morales lay on the ground. Don't want to jinx anything, but after four games I think the reffing has been quite good. Other than that questionable red card against Chivas, which benefitted the Caps, I really can't think of any bad call in any of the games. Which is more than could be said in previous seasons.

I see David Ousted has won MLS save-of-the-week honours: http://www.whitecapsfc.com/news/2014/03/ousted-save-of-the-week Let's hope he can keep it up against Houston on Saturday.
-
If he keeps playing like this the Canucks can trade him in the off-season.

I thought Mattocks had played pretty well in all three games - good effort. The problem is that, for whatever reason, the mid-fielders can't seem to get him the ball. The problem lies more in mid-field than it does with Mattocks. But I like the idea of starting both Manneh and Mattocks. I think Robinson has held off starting Manneh because he was injured during the preseason and still isn't fully fit.

Kind of a helter-skelter game. But a point on the road is a point on the road. Next up - Houston at home. Let's see if the Caps can rediscover the offence they showed against the Red Bulls.
-
Let's see - the long ball didn't work against Chivas last week. So let's try it again this week, especially since there's a stiff breeze blowing which makes it even more difficult. Interesting strategy. Otherwise: New England is playing a very aggressive game. Just pouncing on the Caps players whenever they get the ball. Good thing Ousted is having a good game otherwise this match could be over. Anyone know why Morales isn't playing?
-
Glass half-full, I guess. A draw on the road is nothing to sneeze at. But given a gift red card against Chivas by the ref meant that game was there for the taking. Instead, for most of the game, the Caps were outplayed by a 10 man Chivas team. Which, I'm sure, delighted the ten fans who were at the game. Frustrating. But last week's win was just one game and so was this one. Let's see what happens next week against New England.

A lacklustre first half capped off by a horrible giveaway/goal. Hopefully it wakes the Caps up and they come out with an all-out blitz in the second.
-
It's only one game. But it was a good one.
-
It should have been. That's one of my gripes about the MLS. They should scrunch up their schedule from the current nine/ten months to,maybe, six months. Have the championship game in October.

(Not directly related to the Whitecaps until maybe next year.) The MLS Final between Kansas and RSL was pretty entertaining - from what I saw of it, at least. I caught the last half and overtime. The shoot-out was crazy. Kansas looked like they had it ITB after RSL's first two misses. Then I thought RSL was going to win. And then... But I was hoping the shoot-out would go one more round. Would've been cool to see the goalies taking shots.

From the Vancouver Province: "The obvious theme was the clearing of Martin Rennie’s former Carolina RailHawks crew, with Knighton, Rusin, Davidson and Heinemann all in that camp." http://blogs.theprovince.com/2013/11/28/whitecaps-exercise-option-on-11-players-decline-eight/

A better way would be to get a new general manager. But until Jerry Jones the owner fires Jerry Jones the general manager, that ain't gonna happen. So the Cowboys are probably doomed to mediocrity for years to come.

Official Toronto Blue Jays '13 Season Thread

"Sports Illustrated" has an article about the Miami/Toronto trade one year after: "Given the struggles of the players Miami traded and the fact that the team also cleared $163.75 million worth of commitments off its books, it is no longer difficult to see the trade as a solid baseball move on the Marlins’ part..." http://mlb.si.com/2013/11/19/blue-jays-marlins-trade-jose-reyes-josh-johnson-mark-buehrle/?xid=nl_siextra -
So my friend and I had another religious discussion
UnkNuk replied to yawn.3x's topic in Off-Topic General
Thanks for your answers. When I asked about the "higher intelligence" I should have been clearer. I didn't mean the possibility that there are other beings on other planets that are smarter than we are. Although that is a definite possibility. I meant: do you think it's possible that there is an invisible higher intelligence at work within the universe itself? An intelligence that each one of us is connected to, even though most of us don't realize it most of the time? -

Two questions for Jester 13 (if he cares to answer) and anyone else for that matter (if they care to answer): How would you define this "God" that you know does not exist? Do you think it's possible that some sort of higher intelligence is at work in the universe, call it what you will? Thanks, and my apologies if you've already addressed these questions.
