  1. I never said it was 100% about money and trade clauses. My point was more that there are a lot of things we can mirror the NHL with and there are things we simply cant. I agree that the competitiveness of the team, location of the team, and other factors will play a role in our negotiations. If a player signs in a certain place because his wife and kids get along with some of the wife and kids on a certain team we have no way of knowing that. If a player signs with a certain team because the assistant coach coached him in junior 5 years ago and he likes his style thats not something we hear about or see.
  2. I'm sure there are way more factors that influence a free agent's decision in real life than we know. What I do know is that that in a lot of cases its more than just money. Factors such as, location, competitiveness of the team, NTC, front office staff, personalities or friends on the team ect can all play a factor. With our league a lot of those do not apply. I'm not saying in every situation but I'm sure in the majority of them the player will go to the team that offers the most money and/or a trade clause. This league is pretty much as real as it can be and we have to accept that its not always going to be exactly like the NHL because that is impossible. Like I said in a previous post, teams that throw inflated salaries will feel it in the end, for example, if you paid a player 3 million per year and he's only producing points comparable to a player making 1.75 million per year you are clearly not getting good value. There are also other reasons teams sign big name players to big $$$ such as selling merchandise and tickets. Again that situation would not influence decisions in our league.
  3. Breaking News: A trade has been made between two eastern conference teams involving two players that will both be in the running for Rookie of the Year in this upcoming season...
  4. I thought the same thing when I have seen overpriced signings this offseason. Teams have room to do it to a point but if they do it too much it'll come back to bite them. Just like it does in the NHL.
  5. The Pitsburgh Penguins are in talks to move blue chip center Nick Bjugstad. Asking price is a winger of the same quality (skill, upside, age, contract).
  6. We are very happy to bring Pierre into the Penguins organization. We think his versatility can bring a lot to our forward group. We appreciate the smooth and professional negotiation by both Squeak and Arby.
  7. Report: The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to acquire a bottom 6 winger.
  8. Report: Sources say the Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to make a deal to swap prospects

  10. Great Signing for Phoenix! I dont know how this one flew under the radar. Ramo will be Calgary's starter IRL
  11. The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to package a pick and prospects for a top 6 winger...
  12. To be honest I'm ok with offer sheets in general. In most cases both sides get compensated if there is no matching. When you put an offer sheet out there you take the risk of burning a bridge. Its tough not to be pissed when a team goes after one of your younger skilled players. Normally I wouldnt have a problem with the offer sheet but I thought the term was odd on this one.
  13. I agree. That's why you dont see too many deals between the Canucks and Blues, the Ducks and Oilers. And on here you probably wont see many between Pittsburgh and Colorado. On the other hand I bet the Minister is loving his oversheet that he got for Hedman and welcomes doing business with Tampa Bay
  14. Ya there was no way I was letting him go for that kind of compensation. I would have been more happy if it was a 4 or 5 year deal. Offer sheets are tough because you have to have all of your own picks and with this years cap coming down less teams had the space to do it.
  15. Thanks guys. I wish the offer was better (2 years expiring UFA?) but I'm pretty sure I know why it was done that way. Decision was made to match 2 seconds after I read that Brad had been offer sheeted but I figured I'd let Colorado sweat it out a bit.
  16. Offer Sheet Matched: The Pittsburgh Penguins are matching the offer sheet extended to Brad Marchand. 2 years 4.75 million per year.
  17. Anyone going to the summer summit? Need any questions answered?

  19. Released: The Pittsburgh Penguins are releasing Eric Belanger from his contract. We wish Eric and his family all the best as he continues his career in the KHL http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2013/07/15/eric-belanger-moving-to-khl-after-edmonton-oilers-buyout/
  20. Waivers: The Pittsburgh Penguins place Eric Belanger on waivers.
  21. I get why he's doin it. If the best league in the world was in russia but north american players could make more money playing at home which league would most guys be playing in? He gets taxed 45% in jersey vs 13% in russia.
  22. Report: Sources within the Penguins organization have confirmed Brad Marchand is available. Asking price is said to be a top line winger. GM ActionJax09 was quoted as saying "we are still trying to get something done with Brad but we would never not listen to offers that could make our club better"
  23. If you are so gung ho to offer sheet I've got an RFA for ya
  24. Rumour: Reports out of Pittsburgh say TJ Oshie could be available for the right price. While not shopping him at this time the Penguins are listening to offers.
  25. O nice! Congrats on the anniversary. That is some dedication right there!
