  1. As I said way earlier in the Tallon thread, if we can't get #1, trading for #3 with Edmonton has alot of merit. Especially if we land the #10 in a Kesler trade. They need a defenseman. If they come knocking, they can get one of ours and our pick, then draft Haydn Fleury. The fact is they need defense now!! Could they use a center, sure. Unless they pick Draisaitl, he will be a year away. Bennett and Reinhart could grow a bit.
  2. Call me crazy, but honestly, based on attitude alone, I am sure he will be nipping at that 40 goal mark sometime in his career. And I believe he will hit it. That point about the 40 goal scorers though. That hits home. Only 33 since 2005 and Kesler's one of them.
  3. considering the 2013 draft is compared and will be compared for years to come with the 2003 draft, I look at trading either Horvat or Shinkaruk to trading Mike Richards or Jeff Carter before they got a chance to really show their stuff at the NHL level. They were both drafted in '03 by Phili and they both turned out to be great players. I just can't see losing either of them. Like I said before "anybody else off the team". Just not them. And yes, I do include the Sedins, though however unlikely and impractical it would be
  4. Just...no. Can't do it. There's just this knowing feeling I get about Hunter. His attitude seems very telling. This kid is going to be great! If we let him go, he will make us regret it....
  5. Nuge was still the favourite at the 2011 draft though and he played For Red Deer.
  6. Then why wouldn't you do that trade 1st? Keep in mind Shink almost beat out Mantha on the world Junior roster on one leg....
  7. Yeah, not in the least intrigued by the idea of giving up Hunter Shinkaruk in a deal for Sam Reinhart. Like I said in the Tallon #1 thread, ask for anyone off the roster. Just not Hunter or Horvat. ANY OF THEM!!!
  8. I agree. AV wouldn't have broken up that line and yes, we needed to be 4 lines deep. I still believe Higgins was brought in because Raymond was oh so shaky and for depth. Then injuries came along and changed his role. But yes, he started on that line. I think the point that was trying to be made in all this was nobody really expected Higgins to stay in the 4th line role for very long. I knew the moment he was acquired from Florida that he would eventually slot in beside Kes. The makeshift 3rd line was a bit of a surprise, but it was to everyone.
  9. Would have been. Higgins was brought in for the playoffs, yes? And if you didn't notice, I added Torres cuz I realized I forgot him. Still doesn't change the fact Higgy was better than Torres and Glass. He started on the 4th line because he was getting over a thumb injury, himself.
  10. Oh, make no mistake. He started there for a couple games. Some injuries happened. Higgins contributed and moved up pretty quickly. And I had to edit the above because I forgot Torres was still on the team. Higgins is better than Glass and Torres though, so end of story there.
  11. So soon you all forget. Higgins was a 3rd liner in the 2011 playoffs and he was brought in because of how shaky Mason Raymond was. Higgins-Lapierre-Hansen Torres-Hodgson-Glass Tambellini Oreskovich
  12. Jesus, you guys take this too seriously. Obviously somewhat of an overpayment. Just putting forward a proposal to troll Edmonton.
  13. Kesler to Anaheim in a package which includes the 10th overall. We use the 10th, Tanev, and our 6th for #1. Edmonton leaves the draft sad because they don't get either of the top 2 defensemen. Just to troll Edmonton?"!!!! Hahaha
  14. I can feel you scathing sarcasm from here. Ehlers has exciting speed that can get fans out of their seats AND I don't expect him to make the team next year, unless he surprises out of camp. I really hope the wing spot doesn't get filled out and to let Shink, Jensen, and Ehlers battle it out. We need that speed. The team is old and slow. Making teams like LA and San Jose's D turn because they are getting beat by speed is what the teams needs. This guy will fill out. There are small guys in the league. As long as they are wingers, I am cool with the somehow apparent "lack" of size.
  15. Just had a thought pertaining to this Kesler trade. I was thinking what if we packaged him with Corrado and a midround pick and got back Saad, Teravainen, Oduya, and their 1st round pick. They need to alleviate some capspace on their back end and Corrado allows them to do that. They also fill a hole at 2nd line center with Kesler, which is bigger than the hole they make with Saad. Plus it gives us a chance to move Tanev in way that allows the team to move up in the draft. Both of those Hawk defensemen are better than Tanev.
  16. I predict a subtle change to the lineup after this. Depending on what we get back from the Kes trade. No center in the trade, David Legwand signing, then let the youth fill out what's left of the lineup. Also maybe get a 1a 1b goalie. Draft Ehlers because this team NEEDS SPEED, and let him and Shinkaruk battle it out for a top 6 spot.
  17. The thing is though, the Ducks don't need Kesler as much as they want him. They already have the gritty two way center in Getzlaf. Spezza will also draw more favourable matchups and flourish in that role. Plus Anaheim and Ottawa's trading history. I wouldn't put it past them. They may just take him.
  18. It's quite possible JB is waiting on the impending move with Umberger and Columbus. Maybe Ryan Kesler will go there if RJ is gone. If he is, it would be worth its weight in gold!!! There is no other place I would want to send Kesler to more than Columbus. Plus, if Columbus can actually become part of the mix for Kes, it would make Detroit ante up just that much more!
  19. If it's Detroit, Mantha has GOT to be part of the deal. Jurco and Tatar are great pieces, and Nyquist is probably out of the question, but JB can get better from other teams. Tier 2 players for Kes doesn't get it done. If it's STL, then I would actually like to take Vladimir Sobotka of their hands in any deal. Very good bottom 6 checking forward. Of course not the main piece. Tarasenko and Jake Allen are probably out of the question at this point. So... Schwartz, 1st, and Sobotka. That seems fair. Maybe we add a lower pick or prospect.
  20. interesting thought. Because of Brendan Gaunce being in the pipeline, I would probably be good with it. Horvat will be better, but that would be a situation where we could draft Reinhart and Nylander. If that happened, I could let Bo go. Reinhart, Nylander, Gaunce all down the middle would be great in a few years. FTR, I was actually talking about the Sedins too. They can be traded, but the clause in their contracts specifically says they can only be traded together. I don't think such a move would be feasible for value because of the $14 mil in contracts going to Florida. We would have to take on dead weight (Upshall, Jovo, Kopecsky, etc) At the end of the day, I couldn't see a deal like that done. Just illustrating the point where anyone but Hunter and Bo are available for "having a discussion" on trading up to the 1st overall. As of right now, they are our future and trading Bo and the 6th would be more of a sideways move. I feel both of those guys will be consistent 60 point guys at least. Literally, if we compare the draft spots between last year and '03 because this was considered the deepest draft since then, that would be like offering up our future versions of Mike Richards and Jeff Carter. People might say I'm out to lunch, but their positions are virtually the same (with Hunter playing center as well as LW), they were both drafted by the same team, and their draft numbers were actually very close (11 & 24). So, not okay at all with sending them away at this point. Phili did and look what happened!!! Nearing 2 cups now.
  21. If I am JB I say "Tallon. Talk to me about any of the assets I have besides Horvat and Shinkaruk for the 2014 pick. And I do mean any of them."
  22. This is actually a very good point. And it also pretty much just tells us who we should pick at 6 if we still have the pick and/or if Kes isn't traded for a high end center. Will Reinhart pan out better than Nylander. It's most likely. Alot of scouts see Nylander as a special talent, however. At the end of the day, we need depth at all positions to compete for the cup. Horvat is necessary. We need to get to the top 3 picks. Probably will not be this close again for awhile. We just can't let Horvat go though. If Tallon would take Gaunce, Jensen, and our 6th overall, I would do it, but we just can't do Horvat. And I like Gaunce. Feel he will be better than people anticipate. Probably become a 2nd line center in the ilk of Mike Fisher. Same as Jensen. Both have the talent, but for that #1 center, losing that sort of depth is okay. Horvat isn't.
  23. Dale Tallon would be ready to present Ryan Miller or Jonas Hiller a fatty contract to play in Florida and we would be S.O.L?
  24. And determine whether they should trade up, draft a forward at whichever position we are in or a defenseman.
