  1. Oh, it would be a gigantic overpayment for sure, but it all depends on how much they value having a franchise dman like that. I am just reasserting your point. It will cost too much. Edmonton has that in their back pocket to land Ekblad, if they really want him bad enough. I honestly believe they do.
  2. I think you are right that Tanev and the 6th won't quite get it done because it WOULD have been done by now. BTW, I posted your shrewd Tallon move earlier in this thread or another. I'm not sure which, lol. If we are to trade for the 1st overall, realistically, we would need something which would top Yakupov and the 3rd overall, cuz you just know Edmonton will do it. They need Ekblad really bad!!! So that's the question...what would we be able to trade to top Yak and the 3rd overall? Overpayment, definitely. But that's gonna be the value in the offer that Tallon will want.
  3. Hey DeNiro, what do you think about if we were to acquire Emerson Etem via a Kesler trade, would you be cool with Kassian being included in a deal for #1? The fact that Shink has the chemistry with Etem is very enticing.
  4. I hope you are right. Tanev however isn't as slippery as Lidstrom, otherwise he would be able to play an entire season without being injured. And he is nowhere near as fast as Duncan Keith. Keith is so quick on his feet, dumping and chasing doesn't work so well with. And I don't know about Duncan Keith not being physical. Try telling that to Daniel Sedin. Pretty sure he wouldn't believe you. Even then, if he isn't as physical as most, at least he has the meanness and grit. Duncan Keith gets his nose dirty. Half his teeth are knocked out. Not saying Tanev wouldn't, but we are in a delicate situation with Tanev now. He could be better, but one more year could hurt his value. His value has never been higher either.
  5. You make good points about Tanev, but one thing, even his own father said in an interview. He doesn't hit. The meanness won't come. I kind of see him as Willie Mitchell lite. When Tanev hits his prime, I anticipate his points won't get higher than 30ish with a somewhat knack for making a big play (2009 Mitchell flip pass to Burr, vs St Louis in game 4.) That's still pretty good, but his lack of physicality will hold him back. That's why most people would easily keep Hamhuis over Tanev. Tanev's hockey sense and smart plays are always there, but at least Hammer can make the smart physical play the odd time, where as Tanev makes no physical play. Tanev would probably be the perfect guy to package and move up in the draft. Send him with our pick to Edmonton if we have traded Kesler and have a highly ranked D prospect coming back (Vatanen, Lindholm, Maata, Pouliot) and then draft Bennett or Reinhart. Whichever drops to 3. Or send him to Florida for #1 possibly with someone else and our pick if we need to and draft Ekblad. I mean, honestly, do you really believe Tanev is going to be better than any of the 5 young D named above. Not bloody likely!!!
  6. Fair trade, but don't want Gagner. He doesn't fit the team needs. If Kes is going, like we think he is, then we are not much better off than Edmonton at this point. And Gagner isn't a 3rd line center. He fits better on Anaheim behind Ryan Getzlaf.
  7. Seriously guys, top 3 are where it's at this draft. If Benning wants Reinhart, he will find a way to get him. I hope he does. I honestly think it's possible to get him at 3rd overall. As long as Edmonton doesn't nut up and offer Yak and their 3rd overall for #1. Even then, I still believe we would be able to get that pick away from Florida if Edmonton were tonnage such a bold move. Either way though, no trading up unless we can get into the top 3. One of Draisaitl or Dal Colle will drop. It's gotta happen.
  8. You want your defensemen skating the puck in if you can. It backs off the other team, big time. The drop pass didn't get initiated until the Hoff left. If Eddie could skate the puck in like Hoff could, he would and we would have a puck moving defender. Edler is a trigger man and a forward passer. His lateral passing isn't so great, otherwise he and Garry would be magic together. Haven't you noticed the team is no longer a threat off the rush anymore?! It's because we don't have a d-man with the ability to skate the puck in.
  9. Great skating d-man...who have you been watching again? Ehrhoff is a great skating defenseman. If Edler could skate anywhere near what we needed him to, CDC wouldn't be clamouring for his trade or buyout. Furthermore, he wouldn't need that silly bulls#!+ drop pass to enter the o-zone. He would just skate it in...like Ehrhoff used to do!!!!
  10. This whole thing is a problem. We have 4 defensemen who all really want to be here and are unlikely to waive. All took discounts to play here. Two of them took discounts to come play here from other teams. I just can't see Garrison waiving and I don't want him to waive. But if it helps the team, what can ya do?!
  11. I have to agree, if anyone is taking the 1st overall from Florida, it's Edmonton. Yak and their 3rd overall. It's an overpayment, but Ekblad would help that team more than anyone. I believe Tallon wants to trade his pick too, but only for the right price. Then Tallon would then be able to flip the 3rd to us for one of Tanev/Edler and our 6th. Then he walks out of the draft like a boss with Yak, Tanev/Edler, and Ehlers/Kapanen.
  12. Doubtful. Either way, even if he did, the point is Edmonton is probably quite fine with drafting 3rd overall because they could really use either of those 3 guys. If they can't get their defenseman though, that will be a problem for them. The FA pool isn't very deep and if they want quality, they will be spending alot of money. Getting that 3rd pick is very key.
  13. So this whole moving up the draft thing.... Lots of moving parts. I think trading up to 3rd is probably the most possible, cuz let's face it. Tallon wants the moon for 1st overall and he will get it if a team is desperate enough. If we were to trade up for it, I think it would take Horvat or Shinkaruk. And I, personally am not okay with moving either of them in a package for the 1st overall in this weak draft. Love Ekblad. Kid is a stud and a half. Willing to move virtually anyone else in the trade for him except those two. Buffalo would also want the moon. I just can't see it either. They do have a buttload of centers though, so if Ekblad is gone at #1, I would bet they pick Bennett because he plays wing as well as center. Which leaves #3. Edmonton. Now they could trade up and get #1. That's easy. Yak and their pick and then draft Ekblad. Boom. Just like that. The other thought for me is they trade Sam Gagner for their 10th pick and hope Haydn Fleury isn't gone and then they pick 3rd and 10th. God only knows they would definitely want to have Reinhart instead of Gagner. That would make it a successful draft for them. Easily. That's why, if we want to trade up to Edmonton's pick, Kesler has to go to Anaheim before the draft for that 10th pick and other stuff, like Etem/Vatanen, etc. Making Anaheim not a good trading partner for Gagner and making us a great trading partner. Edmonton's needs are: defensemen, veterans, and a two way checking 2nd line center. We have Tanev, Higgins, 6th overall, Gaunce, and Hansen. Something tells me with a combination of these things, we can definitely land the 3rd overall. Bada bing, bada boom, Sam Reinhart.
  14. He doesn't have to be right handed, he just has to play the right side. That's usually the case, but Derrick Pouliot plays the right side, with Cederholm on the left. So I think we are okay on that front. Plus, even if we aren't, one of the lefties may very well be gone to make room for a less lofty contract and give us more cap space to bolster other areas. Like offense and possibly goaltending if a good opportunity arises.
  15. I think it's more along of the lines of "Well, if you want to see what I plan on doing with the team, with regards to you staying, wait until July 15th. If you still want out by then, I will drive you to the airport."
  16. You know, I don't see us trading or buying out Booth. He had a bad year. With 1 year left, what's the worst that could happen?! I can't see how we couldn't get a late pick for him at this point. Last year on the contract, he's big and fast and we are in a division which has youth who plays big and fast. I would gamble the one year instead of paying him not to play here.
  17. Yeah, I can't see him being dealt to Anaheim, even though I want some of their pieces. Already pretty big and mean and tough to play against. Are we really gonna make that worse?! A smart GM would send him east, if he is looking to be traded.
  18. Maybe I should explain myself...not so great foot speed. Okay defensively, big shot. Only difference is one got used more than the other, so Garry got more points. Neither are capable of being a swift skating puck moving defenseman, ergo, one has to go. Too much money sunk into them.
  19. I think one thing is for sure. The trading of Kesler is not it. Edler and Garrison. One has to go. They are the same type of defenseman. We don't require two of them.
  20. The thing I don't like about it is hr hasn't really played that much wing. He played a little bit in the WJrs camp. Starting him in the NHL in the wrong position seems like a bad idea and may not be so great for his confidence.
  21. So we drafted a guy we want to eventually be a top 6 center and then have him make the team on the wing?! If anything, we do that with Gaunce. Not Horvat. If the only spot for Horvat is wing, then we should send him back to JR for another year. And believe me, I want him on the team next year, but not like that.
  22. Horvat was sick vs Guelph too, but he didn't fare much better. Gaunce may have an injury we don't know about. When there is little hope and you are injured like that, it will take the wind out of anybody's sails!!! Not making excuses, but I believe there is more to Gaunce than that.
  23. Yeah, I just couldn't let that #1 go for just Yak and their 1st. It's big, but Ekblad is going to be great and we have never had this kind of player before. Imagine having Shea Weber from the start of his career. Maybe his shot isn't there, but having a guy like that makes a hell of alot of difference.
