  1. Just don't see Pittsburgh as the best trading partner. He will wanna leave just like Staal if his role isn't on the top 2 lines. Preferably center. Meaning if the Pens were to grab him, they would be selling their future for someone likely to walk in two years. He could be a 1st line center on alot of teams. So Pouliot and Matta are obviously non starters and they don't seem willing to give up either, so we have a standoff. If Columbus were to be in the mix, I would "center" my talks around them. Dubi, Jenner, Wennberg, Rychel, Murray. Dubi and either two of them would probably get it done. Definitely want Dubi in a trade with Columbus when it comes to Kes though. It would keep the team competitive and when Horvat is good enough, Dubi can bounce to the 3rd line. Plus, I am pretty sure Torts loves him. Kes and Umberger are professionals, right. They can move past something from 10 years ago in lieu of the greater goal.
  2. "You guys...." I love all you guys, but sometimes I feel like Moe from the 3 Stooges. *smack, smack*. Don't worry, I do this out of love. As an above poster said, Keslers and Edlers don't exactly become available every day. Especially Kesler. When is the last time a big two way centerman became available...? Mike Richards (and he is under 6' btw.) How about when did one become available at the trade deadline with which could put a contending team over the top? How about we add to that. When is the last time one became available at the trade deadline with this kind of cap hit? If Kes is dealt at the deadline, he SHOULD net 3 good pieces, or at least two really good young pieces and a pick. If it's the Penguins, we have to take salary back, so Sutter is coming, but not something we want, so I would expect the other two to be higher end for sure. If it's Phili, same thing. One with a decent chunk of salary (3 mil or so) and two other good pieces. If it's Chicago, we are basically handing them the cup. Toews on one faceoffs circle, Kes on the other...yeah, no one would ever have the puck. Teravinen and Saad have to be part of the package without a doubt. I would probably ask for their 1st and a conditional 1st for 2015 if they win the cup this year. Make that a second if they don't. STL, I just don't see a fit. Anaheim...I don't know if I would do that one anyway, or San Jose, or LA. Detroit, again 3 good pieces but one has to have salary...so either Helm or Franzen would HAVE to be included. Helm isn't so great a fit because he probably won't go past the 3rd line and Detroit is short centermen. It would have to be Franzen. We take on the risk of that contract, I 100% would want Mantha and either of Jurco/Tatar/Nyquist. Not sure there is a trade there. If RK were to be okay with Columbus, we would probably have to take back Umberger, so I don't think that would happen. Either way...Guys!!!! Seriously don't undervalue Kesler. In reality, we still want him. If he has to go though, we need a good return or he doesn't go. Just like with Lu.
  3. 100% agree with you. And FTR, Holmgren would beat anything Pittsburgh would offer, including that proposed package. I have no doubt they would offer up Voracek and Couturier. Right away that beats Sutter, Pouliot and a 1st. Especially in this draft year. I just feel with Phili, if MG wants Couts bad enough, he could still do it but by another road. Either via a package with Edler or to a lesser extent with Tanev. Maybe we would have to add a sweetener. I know I would want Couts for his PK ability. I still say I HOPE Kes waives for Nashville. I could see Kes and Tanev for Jones, Legwand, and a 1st. If we re-sign Legwand, definitely worth it. And it would keep the team competitive throughout this season.
  4. I think you are underestimating the value of Derrick Pouliot and Brandon Sutter. That being said, if the Nucks got Pouliot, he would be a bottom 6 defenseman to start and Ryan Stanton isn't good enough as trade bait to trade for another thing to help the team. Plus we probably have another 3 years or so with him at a very reasonable salary. Since Pouliot is a lefty and we have 3 great center prospects in the system, Brandon Sutter is good, but a bit redundant. I would take him anyways because he is a great young player. Still though. Not totally satisfied with this.
  5. This just seems like an offseason trade to me. If Kes wants to leave now, he needs to not limit himself to cup contenders. Cup contenders won't give up what it will take to get him and anyone that does would probably deplete their depth too much to still be a contender. Still want it done by the trade deadline, but cup run teams can't afford Kesler. Especially with the draft the way it is this season.
  6. I kind of look at the Blues as where this team was 3 years ago. They have all the pieces they need to make a serious run. Getting Kesler would deplete them. They will be looking for depth that won't "upset the apple cart" as Aaron Ward said about the Nucks 3 years ago.
  7. I like that, but I would want the 1st instead. Corrado is our best d prospect and Kesler is worth alot!!! Actually, I would probably go Kes and Corrado for Seth Jones, Filip Forsberg, David Legwand and a mid round pick.
  8. Kesler and Weber and Rinne all on the same team. Also one of the top 5 coaches in the league. I think he may just waive. You can bet they would probably give up the most for Kes. And I want to pull Seth Jones out of there. I don't care how many dmen we have. There is no one like him on this team. If Kes has any sense of the big picture, he would think hard on it.
  9. Everybody knows what Kesler is all about and the truth of it is, he is injured, but he has battled thru worse. Like the separated shoulder from a couple years ago. The fact that he is sitting out due to a hand injury sounds odd to me. That and MG ducking out of the interview in the intermission. Regardless of all the rumours, those two things speak VOLUMES!!! Either way, this is the kind of thing that will make MG's phone ring off the hook!
  10. I'm just gonna speculate here and say maybe Kesler is no longer playing partially because of his hand, but partially because MG is trying to trade him?
  11. Jakob Voracek and a 1st round pick and Jack Johnson and a 1st round pick for Jeff Carter says hi. One at the draft, sure. That's what we need to be looking at.
  12. That is actually a pretty great proposal!!! Though I am not entirely sure the Edler one would work. I think the team would probably just sign Stastny instead. Though both of em are great!!!
  13. Ya know...as great as PK is in Montreal, he drives the coach crazy! Therrien is a bit of a dick and the fact that they don't get along will probably put them at crossroads. One will have to go. 8+ mil per season for 5 or 6 is alot of money to put into someone the coach doesn't have as much faith in....
  14. I wonder what it would take to get Malcolm here. He was a 1st round pick. Maybe if we end up in selling mode here, we could send a roster player the Bruins' way. They could maybe use Yannik Hansen as bottom 6 depth or they would probably want Tanev because they are a little short on defense. They would have to add though.
  15. Are we really digging up more Hodgson BS? Judging by his makeup, Bo Horvat is gonna be twice the player Cody ever would be!
  16. Thanks Old News for that refreshing laugh. And how many people got caught? I still say Kesler being moved before next season is best for the team. With a few top 6 centers available via free agency, why not?! To get that franchise puck mover #1, there isn't much I wouldn't move....
  17. If this trade were to happen, it would be off season and if Kes were to go to Nashville, you bethe they would be in the playoff picture again!
  18. Yeah, I want Jones. Not Weber. And that trade can get done!
  19. Someone doesn't like Kesler very much.... In reality though, Kesler is worth more than Jones. Especially to Nashville. It would be more like Kes to Nashville for Jones and a 1st or second. They have defensemen coming out their ears and can ill afford to keep spending all their money on their dmen with all their contracts that keep coming up. They have Roman Josi and Shea Weber. Ryan Ellis too. They NEED front end scoring!
  20. What has Nashville always been missing over the years...? Oh yeah, more scoring! Weber will eventually ask for a trade if Nashville doesn't get any front end fire power.
  21. Still saying a deal around Ryan Kesler and Seth Jones needs to be looked into. You do that, then Edler/Garrison and Tanev can be used to nab a good 2nd line center.
  22. Nashville would have to give us more to get Kesler. Not much. A high pick of some sort, but yeah. Kesler is valuable around the league. Half the league would come knocking.
  23. Either way, there's gotta be people now inquiring about Lu. Now that he isn't being shopped, the Leafs nation media has stopped dragging his name thru the mud.
  24. Carolina or Columbus eh? Well there was always that RJ Umberger fiasco. Wouldn't mind trading him to either. If it were Carolina, then Jeff Skinner is the obvious name that comes to mind. But they also have the Staals. I don't think Carolina really cares about Kesler as much. They have Jordan Staal. They are pretty solid up the middle. Plus we gotta remember Kesler actually has to say yes to waving to move to one of these teams. The situation in Carolina makes me think nope and unless RJ were to come our way, I don't think he would say yes to Columbus either. Though this is all subjective. All of this pales in comparison to Seth Jones though. If I am MG and I were trading Kesler, a Seth Jones type would be the target, or at the very least a guy who is capable of replacing his PK skills (Sean Couturier). Nashville and Phili are on speed dial for this one, lol. I would bet Carolina would be interested in Alex Edler though. Even with that kneeing incident at the world's.
