[Rumour] Team1040 Doug Maclean
Noseforthenet replied to davinci's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The fact that Phili knows how much this sort of player costs (Mike Richards) would guarantee Couturier would be coming our way plus, acquiring him really makes Gaunce expendable. Plus they would have to add someone like Jakob Voracek, Matt Read, or Brayden Schenn. -

Hypothetically, if Ryan Kesler was made available, which teams would spread their legs and accept him the most? (pardon the pun) I believe Nashville, Philadelphia, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, possibly Buffalo. I could see Detroit, Tampa, and Carolina having interest as well. -

If it were possible to get She Weber out of Nashville, I am 100% sure Ryan Kesler is the only way to make that conversation happen. Barry Trotz and David Poile love him!!! 1st line Olympic center. Trotz was gushing over him in 2011 when we beat Nashville. And rightfully so!!! That being said, I think I would rather Seth Jones. Younger, faster. When all is said and done, I think Jones will be better than Shea Weber. No question! Also to add to that, if Poile and Trotz had a chance to have Kesler and Weber on the same team, I think they would offer up Seth Jones. -
Well, if he can be like that, I am for having him here. 2.125 mil over the next two seasons after this one is great for a 3rd line center. You know what I was talking about though, right? Another Moneyball player. We can't keep acquiring them. It's not helping the team get better. Too much redundancy. His numbers are pretty good for a 3rd liner. I really believe it's necessary for him to be able to play the wing here. Bo Horvat is coming down the pipeline an he should be making the team next season or so. If not, someone with speed who is good at faceoffs is good to have for the bottom 6.
-
Helm is less than 50% on faceoffs. Can't see a Selke caliber player ever winning or even being close to a Selke with less than 50%. That's why I wanted to know if he can also play wing. But, I mean if you look at it, Santorelli has a better PPG than Helm this season, came to camp in better shape than anyone else on the team, he's from Van so he would take a hometown discount, and his faceoffs are great! Wouldn't Helm be more redundancy? I mean, besides his speed. Speed isn't everything though. Hansen also has lots of speed.... Oh and I forgot to mention...Santorelli can also play wing. Btw, this is not me waving the flag to keep Santorelli in the fold, but saying if that's the way we are going, might as well keep him instead of take Helm off Detroit's hands. If we were to take Helm from them, I would want consistent top 6 production on the wing.
-
You make some great points, here! And I can definitely see what you mean about Detroit not being worried about money. are people seriously complaining about how much Helm makes?! That's pretty great production for bottom 6. My question to you is how is he at playing wing? My other thought is, even though he is injured and out for the season, what exactly can Darren Helm do that Mike Santorelli can't?

Whoa, pump the brakes, dude. Your making a bigger issue out of NTCs than they really are. GMs make mistakes. OFTEN! No, they don't ever want to be known as a guy who goes back on their word. Who does? However, this is part of the business. Teams have bad years. Have to sell off assets. In the case of this one, Edler was signed with the thought he could fill a void that he actually isn't able to. That is the void of the never attainable swift skating, puck moving defenseman. Big mistake by Nucks brass. Now Edler is filling 5 mil worth of cap space and wanted to play a role in which he isn't able to. If MG actually asked him to waive, it wouldn't be the first time someone is asked and it surely won't be the last. Plus you don't know if there's internal pressure to unload Edler. Maybe Aqua says "Trade him or it's your a$$!" And as for Burr, I would give him the benefit of the doubt this season.
-
Hansen is worth a 1st with his 4 year extension. A mid to late round pick typically takes 4 years to develop into an every day player with consistency.Jannik Hansen is a primo 3rd liner. Not good enough to be a top 6, but good enough to be a 3rd line RW on a cup contending team. Any of the top teams would gladly take Hansen off our hands for their 1st.
-
If MG can score all 3 of them for Edler, I will go in front of Rogers arena with a picket sign, trying to get Aqua to re-sign him and won't stop til he does.... Edler is worth a bit...but not two young up and coming players and a top prospect. Plus we would have to take someone with salary to execute the trade. Franzen is the most useful piece with salary

It's all about attitude. It's obviously more than just Torts, as I mentioned in my other posts. Having Garry and Edler is redundant. One needs to go, either way. Either way, Edler's skill set fits best with a dman who can push the play forward. If he can't be paired with someone who does that, he needs to go and his flaws will show. As far as him and Torts are concerned, all you need to do is watch Torts ream him out. Edler shuts him out. Also, you didn't answer my question: If Edler were gone, would you include Horvat in a trade which would bring OEL here from Phoenix?
-
the role he was signed for, arguably, is that of an offensive d man who can also play physical. It's pretty obvious now he isn't exactly what the organization thought he was. That's on the Nucks brass. Not him! He isn't that fast of a skater and his lateral passing isn't great. Edler getting proper coaching and being paired with someone who can push the play forward well, will make him worth every penny of his 5 mil to Detroit! He doesn't seem to work well with Torts, which is plain as day and once he stopped being paired with good passers (Salo, Ehrhoff), low and behold his play dropped off along with his confidence. That's why he and Garry have never worked out. It's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Kind of curious to see how he and Tanev would fit together for a long period of time, actually. He's like salt, actually. You wouldn't pair salt with more salt would you? No, you pair it with pepper. Too much salt makes food go bad! As far as the Horvat thing goes. Yeah, if I were in the situation where my top two centers were currently locked up for at least another two seasons like the Nucks' are, trading Horvat to fill the organizational need would be okay with me. Two seasons in the minors will make Gaunce a solid 2nd or 3rd line center. Plus, that's two seasons away. Anything could happen in those two seasons. Plus with the way this team is trending, finding another young center, whether it be thru the draft or trade is within the realm of possibility. Would I want to trade Bo Horvat? Not really, as you said, he is our best prospect and miles ahead of Gaunce. Gaunce will still be a good useful player in the league though. You can bank on it. He has too high a hockey IQ to not be. That being said, there are very few situations I would let Horvat go for, just like I bet there are very few situations Detroit would let Mantha go for. Edler and Hansen both would have to be part of the package to do it, IMO. Now let me ask you a question: Would you include Bo Horvat in a trade for Oliver Ekman-Larson, if Edler were already gone?
-
If there were a need on Vancouver that seriously needed to be filled which Edler could fill out and I could pair him with someone who would work out well, you bet I would!!! We have Kes, Hank and Gaunce waiting in the wings. Edler's skill set is great, in the right hands. There are alot of moving parts with a trade of this magnitude. Edler just for Mantha is a no for both sides, however Edler and Hansen for Franzen, Mantha, and SMITH maybe?! That is definitely something I feel Detroit would consider since Hansen is locked up for the next 4 years and they have Tatar, Jurco, and Nyquist to grow into their future top 6 roles.
-
You know, for all the awesome things you usually say, I don't exactly agree with all of your last 3 posts. Edler fills a need for Detroit and with the right coaching, he will be good. Will he be Lidstrom...not a chance. Is he good with a good partner who can pass, Ie: Salo, Ehrhoff. Umm, yeah, he is. Babcock is the best coach in the game, which is why Detroit hired him and he is coaching team Canada! Edler and Kronwall would be two towers of power!!! You gotta know Babcock would get him hitting like an anvil again. Plus with less travel, he will be less fatigued. Edler for a package which includes Mantha is within the realm of possibility. Especially if Yannik Hansen were to be included in the trade. They have Tatar, Nyquist, Jurco, and to a lesser extent, Landon Ferraro, and Martin Frk. They can go without him. They wouldn't be wanting to lose him, but they haven't exactly replaced Lidstrom and this is a step in the right direction. Also...Brendan Smith? We have two other lefties besides Edler. One is playing his off side right now. I can see the need and would take him, but gotta think there's an easier free agent replacement for the bottom two pairing, no?
-
Theoretically, if we took Franzen off their hands, I have to agree that them tossing in their 1st would be what we would be looking at just for that. Now, with that being said, taking Franzen would mean we would need to send another RW their way. What else could Edler and Hansen get from Detroit if Franzen and their 1st are included in the trade?
-
If MG is to be gone, I would rather it be sooner rather than later. Do we really want him making the decisions which need to be made at the trade deadline?
-
Another thought. Two more losses and we match the streak from 2009. This one seems much worse though for some reason....

[Trade] VAN Dale Weise to MTL
Noseforthenet replied to Strombone1's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I am amazed at how many people on here have no faith in the Sedins producing better ever again. The coaching style is different and they don't have a puck moving D back there making them a threat off the rush. They will be fine. The whole Damn team is struggling and until a dman who can skate the puck up off the rush and make quick passes up to the forwards, they won't break PPG totals and it's dumb to expect it of them. They are worth the 7 mil. I have faith they will prove it, but the right deal has to be made for a puck mover. The end. PS I totally agree with you on waiting til the season is over to deal with negotiations. This was a bit early. -
