  1. These are "Show me you can stick in the NHL" deals. With Tanev's contract coming up and Edler a year away, we need some back end guys to start emerging. That and Utica needs some players too. There was hardly anyone signed there for next year.
  2. Retaining salary is a non starter for Aquaman, I think. If you think about it, it doesn't make sense. You're paying someone to not play for you and then you pay someone else to play for you with the additional salary, plus probably more due to inflation, and for what? A pick. There isn't really much of a scenario where you retain salary and the benefit outweighs the cost. I honestly can't think of a single time this has helped anyone enough to say it benefitted their team. The Luongo situation was the closest thing and even that was basically a wash.
  3. Again...it helps to read the whole thread to stay in the know as to what was discussed. Yer a bit behind the 8 ball.
  4. 2 moustache hairs...down to the logo. That way when the death stares come, he will look like he's gonna perform some deadly martial arts move.
  5. The way these things go, what probably happened is JB was shopping Sutter and Eriksson around. He got to Nashville and Poile was like "Wasn't he one of your best faceoff guys? I know he was injured, but why are you wanting to trade him out?" JB answers, "Well we got a guy in Gaudette, ready to take the helm, so moving Sutter has become an option, where as last season it wasn't." So then Poile talks to his scouts and they're high on him, so they send back an offer for Gaudette instead. JB says "No thanks, we're trying to move Sutter. He needs a fresh start." Then Poile sends a better offer and Benning just says flat out that "We aren't trading him for picks or as part of a Subban deal, unless you retain some salary." And that's the end of that conversation.
  6. I just don't see how losing Tanev at this juncture makes the team better unless we pair a forward and a pick with him to get a better D coming back. Or say a forward and then a Gardiner signing. Even then, I still don't think this makes our defense better.
  7. No Tanev salary dump. Would rather see an upgrade. I dunno. We'll see where this goes.
  8. I just don't think Benning does this. A guy with a drafting background like him is going to bet on his ability to find good players. If we still had Mike Gillis at the helm...go right ahead and offer sheet Marner. Honestly, I bet it would have been done by now and we'd be waiting for the Leaf's answer.
  9. That...is actually incorrect. Unless it has changed since Shea Weber was offer sheeted by Philadelphia. You can either A. match B. let the player go or C. figure out a trade within the week.
  10. Durrr obviously, but you're not imagining the course of events. You call Montreal, you say "That isn't enough for Aho. We're gonna match this, but we'll give you a week to formulate a better offer" and then see what comes of it. Once the offer is officially matched with the league, then nothing can be done and Aho is locked in with the Canes for a year.
  11. If I'm Carolina, I pick up the phone and say "We're matching this, but if you come up with a better trade offer in the next week, we'll consider it." The value of losing Aho for that is not great. Also, not sure I'd want the player playing for my team if he doesn't wanna be there.
  12. The Canes might not match. I could see their ownership BEING PISSED and saying no out of spite.
  13. I think he's best buds with Bo, actually. I recall him playing with someone on our team before he made the NHL. Not sure who....
  14. I think he's likely called up mid season when Edler gets injured. Otherwise, it's Guillaume Brisebois.
  15. Good signing. He's gonna log ALOT of lefty minutes on the PK whenever Edler goes down. Anyone have the stats/ranking on Montreal's pk the last few years?
  16. I have been tooting this horn since the beginning of last season. Tanev has been run absolutely ragged. There's no way anyone could stay healthy with the minutes he has had to cover on his own.
  17. Hmmmm, what are they up to? Gotta think there is something else involved.
  18. Personally, I'm more interested in Myers' ability on the PK. If he can take away some hard minutes from Tanev and hammer the puck from the point, then absolutely I want Tyler Myers. If he can't be solid on the PK, it's a hard pass for me.
  19. On loan to...CHINA?! This is how you're building your confidence back, Loui? This must be a summer league or something....
  20. Nah, it's one or the other. They won't be taking on Stralman and Myers unless they're moving out Stetcher too.
  21. It might be a left D the Nucks are looking for too. I can't see signing 2 of the defensemen on the market. They're way too expensive. Sign one and trade for one, IMO. I think Benning has this love in for Myers because he had Chara in Boston. Plus if he has Myers and then Tryamkin comes back, you have a really tall, really long pairing on the back end. Neither of them play like Chara though. The signable D options are risky. If we are to sign one, Anton Stralman is my vote right now and he plays like a guy we need on the back end. The contract isn't gonna be crazy, most likely. I dunno. Getting Myers or Gardiner on a huge long term contract feels like a gigantic risk to me.
  22. Dude I hope you're comfortable with posting that because you're about to get Flamed for that cap number on Pavelski, since he's 35.
  23. This is the kind of thing which gives me issues. I am actually wondering if JB had the conversation in the first place and if he didn't, why wasn't he a target? Obviously wouldn't have been a 2nd and a 5th. Probably didn't want to lose out on Hoglander this draft, but then why not just make it from next years' and add a sweetener. Like a B prospect or something? Again, it just sounds like the conversations need to reach a little bit further than they are.
