Not gonna lie, my Canucks fandom since 2013 was fueled by this forum. Without it, I might genuinely fall out of this toxic relationship.

This really sucks as cdc is my go-to place to get not only Canucks news but also general nhl news in a timely manner.
Well at least my boss is gonna be happy with one less distraction for me at work.

As I said, build it below the parkade.
As I mentioned, there is a building near Rogers that has a parkade that goes a few levels further below ground than the parkade at Rogers. I'm not sure where the 4-5 year estimate comes from, but that seems to be at least equal to the amount of time the Canucks have spent trying to decide on where to build it. If they had taken action 4-5 years ago, maybe it would be approved by now
Dude adding levels below existing structure is not easy to do. You are literally digging below the foundation. You are looking at closing down Rogers for like 3 seasons which is not feasible.

If the Canucks are not using a practice facility for 1/2 the year. I'm finding it odd why this is such a big deal.
The coaches can't work with the players in the offseason, as it's against the players union rules.
(Hence why in spring during the playoffs when some Canucks coaches was attending a scrimmage with some Canucks players and the team got fined)
You can still go to UBC or any other year round facility. UBC has fitness facilities, gyms, and lots of students who are studying sports medicine etc. Until the summer break.
So why the big stink about a practice facility?
The problem with going to UBC or 8 rinks when needed is that the team itself does not own any dressing room or storage space in it resulting it players having to warm up and dress at Rogers and bussing to the rink and the equipment people having to pack and lag around everything they might need from Rogers and back.
In essence they lack the ability to store anything and have the state of the art medical and training facilities at UBC or 8 rinks.
They would also have to schedule around other people as the Canucks are not the primary resident if the rink while ideally they want others to schedule around them to give the team the most flexibility.
Any new practice facility would have 2 sheets of ice with one that will always be available to the team while the other can be used by the community or college teams.

That being said still having your practice facility on a university campus would seem a little Mickey Mouse.
Hopefully this story is simply a leak to gain leverage in other negotiations.
With Vancouver real estate pretty much the only two option are to tear down pacific colosium or replacing existing rinks.
If they gonna tear down PC, they might as well just build a new arena with a practice facility in it cause that location is gonna be the eventual new arena site once Rigers reach EoL. That option is out.
They can't just build a world class practice facility in any random community center so that just leave university campuses that can use a new rink or have the land needed to build a nhl training center for both the team and the university. Likely to get more gonverbment grant and cost sharing with the university that way.
Teaming up with UBC or SFU was pretty much the only option left once the plaza of nation (pretty much the only large piece of land left in the downtown core) fell through.
That said, teaming up with SFU in Burnaby and up that mountain instead of UBC is mind boggling.
But it looks like SFU is more willing to pursue NCAA division 1 compared to UBC so probably more willing to dough out and work with the Canucks.

I can't recall a time the team has been here, working this hard, this early. The boys seem serious about a strong start as "training camp" has started early.
They been back every season a week before camp. Nothing new here.

Good choice. Petey with his contract situation and general awkwardness with media wouldnhave made the captaincy an undue burden.
-
Let's get creative woth this. Built it on top of a barge next to rogers.
Hang it in sky high across all of the condos Aqua is building around Rogers.
-
We trading Petey and Hughes by the deadline and kick start a proper rebuild.
-
Not sure how legal it is but the best way to address tax issue is to escrow players pay based on hughest tax rate of all teams and proportionally distribute out from the fund post season so everyone's tax rate is effectively the same.
So those in higher tax brackets gets more money back and those with lower tax rate takes a hit.

Its already been reported that he wont be negotiating a new deal this summer. The only way it's resolved before the season starts is if he's traded.
Things change especially with Mathews signing now.
I am totally fine trading him. I am sick of this would he won't he sh*t.

At this point I don't really care one way of the other if Petey wants to stay or not.
Just hope it is resolved one way or the other before season start as I am tired of all the Canucks drama not to mention other drama on the internet this year.
Gonna be brutal too with the US election cycle ramping up now. Commercials is gonna be insufferable.

Well this forum lived to see the greatest melt down of the Canucks in the 20s.
