What Myers was fine and is the only physical D we have in the backend. Otherwise yeah sounds like a plan.
-
I agree with most of you. The Jake experiment is over. He either needs to be traded or accept being paid like a fourth liner (~1-1.5mill)
-
Damn Seattle. Already starting to hate them before they even have a player signed.
-
Man hopefully he has improved at his English. The canucks are now a tight knit team and he needs to at least have decent enough of english to gel with the rest of the core.
-
So what do you want then? Fire him? If there are restriction on him, there will definitely be whomever take over due to meddling ownership.
-
It is the same model.
-
Your the one not being realistic. With our cap issues, it is not smart to sign anyone until the season is done and have a complete picture. And you are a fool if you think JB is just sitting back not doing anything. All GMs even the bad ones start planning for the following season midway through a season and start exploratory conversations with other GMs on trades.
-
Lol protection for the expansion draft is easy for the D. Like you said Myers, OJ, and whomever replaces Tanev or Tanev (we have to protect 3 anyways). Edlers contact expires at end of next season so no need to protect him.
-
We still need one of Sutter or Beagle for the pk but we definitely don't need both of them. Gaudette is still young so wouldn't move away from him just yet unless a team over pays or is willing to take Erickson with him.
-
Agree that the bottom six needs a make over. The only player in the bottom six that should stay long term is Motte. Time to move on from one of Sutter or Beagle (more preferably Sutter). I wouldn't move Gaudette just yet but it has to be made clear to him that he need to do major work to his game if he wants to be a main stay and driver on the third line. Virt experiment is over. He either should be traded for whatever we can get or be paid like a fourth liner. I will reserve opinion on Mac cause he didn't really play much. Roussell can go to open up space for Lind or Mac. Defense also gonna require a overhaul. Benn shoudl be traded bit with only one more year on his contract, it is not that much of an issue. Fanta should be retained if possible. Stecher, bless his heart, should be let go. He just doesn't have the size for the playoffs and be paid for what he will be asking and we probably need his spot to give to Juolevi or Rathbone. Edler is here to stay until next season and frankly he is still out number 2 D. Now the question here is Tanev. He is great at what he does but at the same time we need more physicality and speed from the top 4. May have to let him go and spend his cap somewhere else. Top 6 for the most part is not gonna do much movement until Pod or Hog gets in. We probably want an upgrade on Pearson but he is serviceable for now. Tofu should be retained if possible to solidify the top six. Boeser on the other hand should be looked at what we can get for him. If he can bring back a big fast top 4 d, it might not be a bad idea to trade him. He was not the problem but he sure can be the solution in a trade. Goalies. Try to bring Marky back but the line in the sand is NMC. He he is adamant on a nmc or full ntc, than let him go and sign a goalie like Holtby to share the net with demko next season.

2019-2020 End of Season Appreciation Thread
24K PureCool replied to ruilin96's topic in Canucks Talk
Considering this is tied as our top four playoff finishes (actually speak worse of the franchise more than anything) with a core at its first crack at the playoffs and a team not even close to their prime, this season was 1000% a success. To those worrying about this team being one hit wonders like Calgary and Edmonton, the difference between us and those franchise is that we have all of the most crucial pieces in place with our young core with every single one of them proving to be playoff performers during this run. We are not like Edmonton that only has a 1C and a 1W with no 1D or G in place or like Calgary that still has a goalie and 1C issue. Now it is up to JB to do the hard work of keeping the core together and find the right compliment players to push the team over the top. JB did a fantastic work building the fondation, now let's see if he can build a house. -
That is because he wants to see what the team has in the playoffs before making any moves. You are gripping over nothing. The point about playing the right way is less about outplaying the other team, that ain't gonna happen with this team's current skill level or else we be talking about going to the WCF and finals right now. The point is to commit to back check and defense instead of drifting at the blue line waiting to cherry pick pucks and at that front, the vets did their job and the team was successful at defending. We can see the fruits with how ferocious Pettersson was in his own zone. You are asking for the sky and frankly we are just not there yet. Grip over this is the team does not improve or regress two years from now cause JB ain't getting fired any time soon.

Good news is we have Juolevi and Rathbone kicking at the door who are great at that first outlet pass.
-
Problem is it is also a huge gamble on Demko able to be a starter or 1A starting next year. Not saying Demko will but he can definitely pull a Bennington or Hamburgerlar. Than we are left searching for another number 1. I would try to sign Markstrom but with the red line being protection in expansion draft. JB need to make it clear to Markstrom that there is a good chance he is either getting traded or exposed in the expansion draft. Losing Marky to Seattle isn't gonna be the end of the world for the reason you stated and it would give us at least one more year to see if Demko can be that elite number 1 goalie.

Tryamkin ship has sailed. Frankly he does not want to play a physical game and really is nothing more than a 3rd pairing or depth D. Don't think we can get a physical D without doing a trade at this point in the short term. Only physical D prospect we have is Woo and he is still quite a few years away if at all. That is why I am now on the explore trading Boeser boat. If we can grab a top 4 physical/fast D man out of someone, we should seriously consider such a trade.
-
Cause it's a good distraction from the complexity of life. It sucks to lose but end of day, it's just a game that we have no control over.

SO WHEN DOES TRAINING CAMP ACTUALLY START
24K PureCool replied to hockeygod77's topic in Canucks Talk
I THINK NOVEMBER 10 SOMETHING IF THINGS GOES AS PLANNED. SEASON SUPPOSE TO START DECEMBER 1ST. -
Only person in the bottom six that needs to be retained is one of Sutter/Beagle and Motte. Top 6 is fine but wouldn't mind trading Boeser for another top pairing d and sign Toffoli. But only for the exact deal we want. Person can stay till one of Hog or Pod is ready. Virt should be traded or signed with minimum raise. Roussell needs to go. Gaud need some serious work on his game but should be fine long term. Benn should be moved to give a spot for Rafferty or Juolevi. Stecher, bless his heart, should be let go as he can't handle the physically of a long playoff run and would save us some cap space. Not sure what to do with Tanev. Edler ain't going anywhere as he is still our 2d until hopefully Juolevi takes over.

So true about the assistant coaches on the bench. Think Green has shown he has what it takes to coach a team to a cup but Brown and Baumer is very suspect and I think should be replaced with either more experienced assistants or former nhl head coaches. Look at philly, all their assistants are former head coaches. I said since last off season that the biggest gift JB can give Green is to fire those two. Heck I won't mind give Manny a crack at the pp.
-
As long as he steer away from ufa from other teams, our cap situation ain't that bad.
-
JB's real test is coming up. Let's see how he do this and next off season.
