*Long status opinion post...*
Maybe it's because I was born in Toronto, and their my second team... However, Looking at that roster, they NEED to make a trade for Tanev. I would give up a hefty package to get Tanev, and have VAN retain half the salary to make it more cap feasible, as long as I don't give up anything on the current roster. If they can then add one more good right handed dman, I don't see a team that can beat them barring injuries this year.
For Tanev, I would give Liljegren and a 1st, for Tanev and a 2nd or 3rd, then go after Justin Faulk strong. A d core of Reilly - Tanev and Gardiner - Faulk, for the next 2 years, with the forward group they have?
Yeah, Id go to Vegas and bet on the Leafs IMMEDIATELY.

1. Liljegren's first year on North American ice.
2. Jordan Subban was a year older
3. Jordan Subban's first year in the AHL was his best, if Liljegren improves even a little bit, he's already done more than Subban
4. Despite his prolific scoring, Subban had a -5 rating. Normally the plus minus rating isn't taken into much consideration, but when you are scoring at that rate as a defenseman, and still letting in more goals, that's cause for concern. Subban was a liability in his own end.

Jordan actually was selected to the AHL allstar game in his 2nd year there as well (he ended up putting up as many points that season).
" Subban was a liability in his own end."
Unfortunately that was the other constant, couldn't play a lick of defense in his own end.
Still has REAL offensive skills that you can't teach (it is possible to "learn" the defensive side of the game). A longshot at this point to be sure.
