  1. He has all the tangibles you can't teach: speed, strength, size, etc. While still having all the tangibles you can teach: quality shot, puck skills, etc. His biggest knocks are things like, "use teammates more effectively," which are things that are teachable. He has top 5 talent, he just needs to learn how to fully unleash it. Don't gat me wrong, but thats exactly what you want from 6th overall. A close to sure fire talent who could end up being just as good as anyone in the top 5 with a little bit of NHL coaching. I see Virtanen becoming another version of Evander Kane but without the lockeroom problems that WPG reports. Honestly, Virtanen is probably the first guy out of the top 3-4 that I think should be taken.
  2. Is it just me or do those zepter logos on the helmets drive you crazy too? Can't stand them.
  3. This team looks scary. Just for fun I'm going to try and guess line combos. Hubereau Turris Mackinnon Schenn Kadri Read Burrows Monohan Hodgson Chimera Scheifele Ward Brouwer Garrison Bieksa Reilly Myers Coburn Gudbranson Ellis James Reimer Ben Scrivens Justin Peters Probably all wrong, but it looks like a quality lineup to me.
  4. Honestly, I have my problems with Torts, but anyone who tries to blame this teams lackluster performance this season on him, or at least a majority on him, didn't watch the same season I watched. At the beginning of the year, this team was playing well and it was evident Torts was one of the reasons. Then injuries came down and we pretty much had to field a roster of scratches, AHL players, and players just coming off injured reserve just to go back again. As he said, our group is old and stale without youth, excitement, spark, etc. That's why Santorelli was so big when we were hot. He provided energy throughout the lineup similar to how Burrows used to do before he was also played with injuries this year. Torts was given a roster good enough to be a wild card team or possibly, barely in the division top 3, had to deal with more injuries than I have ever seen in my life, and didn't really get the young guys in the lineup he wanted to. If I remember correctly, Torts was an advocate of Horvat and Shink at least getting 5 or so games with the team to see if they could possibly stay. Torts is a good coach. Just wait until next year when he has a healthy talented roster with some youth. However, one thing I'll admit he is not good at, or whoever the special teams coach is, is the PP… Need to get better at that as soon as possible.
  5. CDC = Canucks Dot Com. IMO = In My Opinion. Often sometimes IMHO for in my honest opinion PMD = Puck moving defensman. Think of Erik Karlson, PK Subban, Christian Erhoff, etc. Smart Offensive defensman that can make good offensive plays and be a quarterback on the PP. Hope that helps. But if anyone knows, what does OP mean? I hear people say, "The OP has a good point," and stuff and I assume they are talking about the guy who made the topic but I have no idea what it means
  6. My dream would be to get Both Reinhart and Virtanen. I feel like they could be great compliments and they're both local so fans would love them. Imagine, with the high IQ and skills of rein hart, and the strength, speed, shot, etc of virtanen, they could be a match made in heaven. If you really think Virtanen can put up cory perry like numbers, he will probably need a a playmaker to set him up. In 5 years from now, if we got these two, we would be seen as the clear winners and maybe have a replacement for Daniel and Henrik when they eventually have to step down. However, instead of them being swedish, they would be local BC boys.
  7. Lol, that is kind of what happens when you go on a website filled with people who don't all have the exact same opinion. Just because I think Kesler should stay, doesn't mean everyone else does. Are you honestly shocked that fans seem have different opinions than one another? And you say CDC'ers say these things. Yeah, because they are all fans and have a mind of their own. You think other teams fan bases don't say the same thing? The other day, I heard Penguins fans saying they wanted to try to trade Malkin for a huge return because they don't think the current path of Crosby and Malkin is going to get it done anymore. He would rather take the ocean of players and prospects than have him. So what? Am I supposed to be shocked he has a different opinion than others? lol. And what they are saying is that they will be better in the long run. Kassian is much further in his development than Drouin as he has played multiple years in the NHL. Is it fair to assume that when Drouin is Kassians age, he will be much more effective? I think so. It's the same concept, just swap out the players with whoever you choose.
  8. I'm all for it. If the top 5 are gone than I want either Ritchie or Virtanen. Imagine a line, probably our third, with ritchie on the left, and Kassian on the right. Those two could become a serious wrecking ball combo. But Virtanen is just something that we don't have. The biggest flaws to his game are fairly easily fixable with good coaching. Give the kid a month with Torts and he'll have him playing defence and using his teammates. He could be a STAR for this franchise, and plus, him being a hometown guy, we probably have a good chance at him looking to stay for 15-20 years if he develops into a star.
  9. My top 6. 1 Sam Reinhart 2 Aaron Ekbald 3 Sam bennett 4 Leon Drasaitl 5 Michael Dal Colle 6 Nick Ritchie I'm happy with any of those. Optimally I would either like to trade up or snag 2 of them but if we stayed pat, kept our assets, and drafted at 6, we are still in a good spot to get a good prospect. You can even add Virtanen into that mix. This draft class is kind of weak; however, it has 10 or QUALITY prospects. So us being at number 6, doesn't really worry me. Very low chance we walk out unhappy
  10. Only if we could make a trade with Florida. I could actually see it happening. 6th isn't that far off, so if we give them a couple assets, I think it could be a deal. Reinhart is our boy. Native Vancouver boy, he could possibly be a future captain and a player who could play 15-20 years in this league. Seeing the success of former top 3 picks, Reinhart could be exactly what we need. Imagine if Reinhart could do half of what Mackinnon did this year. Personally, I think he could put up 50+ points next year too. If not, then definitely 40. Sounds like a top 6 forward to me. Slot him to the right of Kesler, and you gave him a playmaking winger, put him in the middle and surround him with as of this moment, even mediocore scoring wingers like Higgins and Kassian, and watch the line light up. If I were Linden, trading up from 6-1 would be priority number 1.
  11. Kesler is the type of player you build your team around and not trade. Also at 5 million for 2 more years I believe, he is the guy we should build around. But, every player has a price. Unless significant return given, Kesler better not be traded.
  12. I want Boone Jenner++. I don't know how untouchable he is, but if you ship out Kesler, bring in Boone Jenner
  13. Try to snag Zibanejad. He is only 20, which is great for the youth movement and he can put up 40 points a season. Give him a few years, he can put up 50-60+. Right handed, so he can play either 3c or RW. He would probably do well anywhere in the top 9 as well. He could be that winger we need to help Kes. I would assume Ottawa regards him very likely But I think Edler should be able to get it done. Maybe even bring us something back. If not, I'm good with that. It's a trade that helps both teams. The pairing of Edler Karlsson could be too good too pass up. Zibanejad's power forward abilities aren't bad either and could work well with both sedins or the second line.
  14. I appreciate your points, however, how much would they value a player like Edler? Edler is a potential 40-50 point d-man. (Maybe 60 under the perfect conditions?) He can log 23-26 minutes a night. He is already an all star and can be again. Also, dude is also 27 years old and has a cap hit of 5 million for what 5 more seasons? Lets also not forget, the cap is going up too. I actually think aside from the ntc, Edler has a pretty desirable contract if he can put up the numbers he should. I wouldn’t mind keeping Edler as I think he is in fact a bargain. We just have such a loaded defence and we need to reallocate our assets. The only reason why i think Edler should be traded is because he is the odd man out on our blue line. Jason Garrison is showing he can be the go to offensive defenseman on a stable team, and Hamhuis is the go to defensive defenseman. Tanev has emerged as our second best defensive defenseman and is young which is good for the youth movement. Bieksa is a spark plug and makes the entire team play better just by him being on the bench. Him, alongside with Stanton, are our aggressive defensemen with bite. Stanton is young and I see him one day being molded by Bieksa into becoming a similar player like him in the future. So basically Edler is the odd man out. His biggest asset, his offensive upside, has been surpassed by JG. Realistically, I think it is a choice between JG and Edler, but JG has a smaller cap hit, harder shot, and has shown recently that he can and is an offensive force not to be taken lightly. That is the only reason Edler should be traded. In fact the rest of the league regards him very well his contract takes him through his prime years. I see no reason why he can’t fetch a price similar to one like Mike Richards got. Some would argue Richards is better, (as would I) but stud defensemen are a rarity. Richards got Philly a stud prospect in Brayden Schenn, a roster player in Wayne Simmonds, plus a second round pick. I think Anthony Mantha, and Johan Franzen seems like a plenty fair deal to me but that’s just my personal opinion.
  15. Wow. Mike Gillis is the exact opposite of Tortorella. Tortorella tells things like it is, MG talks in circles. He reminds me of a politician.
  16. He has 3 goals on the season. A goal is always helpful, but you make it seem like he is one of our most consistent goal scorers and put up 20+ a season.
  17. I'm telling you.. Evander Kane is our missing link. Nucks need to make a strong, STRONG push for him. Andrew Ladd is also the perfect player we need too. Both are BC boys so they would probably resign, but they're already locked up for years. We need one, if not both. Need to make a really strong push. I'm talking giving up Edler, Shinkaruk, etc. You have to give to get and thats what we need. Weve got like 5 years give or take with the sedins left, theres no time to waste.
  18. This is actually a fair point. Martin St Louis came into the league at a similar age. I think it was 23 but don't quote me on that. And if you look at his numbers, on a ppg average, the numbers are pretty similar. He played 13 games his first season so lets take his first 2. He put up 20 points in 69 games (.28 ppg) at the age of 23-24. Schroeder put up Schroeder has put up 11 points in 46 games (.23 ppg) at the age of 22-23. So actually pretty similar. I'm not saying he's the next St Louis, but he could actually develop into a great player. St Louis blossomed when he was like 25+. Schroeder could be the same way.
  19. If we did acquire him, wouldn't we have to qualify him at 6.5 mill this summer if we wanted to retain his restricted free agent status?
  20. For some reason I just feel like this will be a high scoring game. No reason for it, just have a feeling. Like 5-4 high scoring or so.
  21. Shouldn't Schroeder be back soon? I thought they said 2 months give or take a couple of weeks, Well it's been almost 3 so where's the update on him? Anybody know?
