  1. I always said, if Bo made the team, he would have a Boone Jenner-esque season. In the beginning, he would play solid defense, and be dependable in that way. I assumed that come the end of the seasons, he would find his footing and be able to generate some offense. Glad to see he's progressing even faster than that. Producing on the fourth line, with lower skilled players and no PP time. Bo is going to be a big cornerstone piece for us in the future
  2. He'll be an NHL regular sooner rather than later
  3. Uh oh. If Richie can't play, it may be Bo's time to step up
  4. I disagree. I can remember a number of times he managed to use his speed to back check and uses his strong body to get between the puck handler and the puck.In fact, in many occurrences, he made it look almost too easy. I found his defensive play to be good. Not fantastic, but definitely solid
  5. From watching this tournament. I love this guy as a pick. I love the way he plays. Speed, physical, grit. He's going to be a great Canuck, for a long time.
  6. I think everyone needs to calm down until the actual tournament. Right now, they're testing things out. What I could tell is from this game they really wanted to see what they had in their top 6. They played fantastic against Russia despite the overtime loss, and this game they added Both Lazar and McDavid. Once the actual tournament starts, I see them rolling 4 lines. You just can't get away with not utilizing your whole roster when the games get tough. I have the upmost confidence that when given his real opportunity, Virtanen will go hard. And to the people nagging about him not getting to play with McDavid on the top line and stuff, I have to say this. Good team hockey is not about just your top players. Sometimes it's the bottom 6 players that put your team over the top. Remember team Canada at the Olympics? Our best line that tournament was our third line (Benn, Getzlaf, Perry). Teams would focus so much on how to stop Crosby and Toews line that they would come in and dominate. I kind of like Virtanen on the third or fourth line, granted he gets his minutes. He is the guy I see again, putting the team over the top. This team is so stacked, Virtanen playing in the bottom 6 as an 18 year old doesn't seem to bad to me.
  7. I think it was one of those games where the coach said "no need for changes. were totally outplaying them the way it is. The goals will come." and they just didn't. shots were like 50-20, I could understand why a coach saw little need to adjustments midway

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

I have been a believer in this guy for a while. He has the attitude body, skills, smarts, leadership etc, to at least be a consistent NHLer in this league. I think Gaunce is going to be the kind of guy that takes a while to get there, but when he does, he should make an impact. I expect 2-3 years before he makes the jump. (including this one so really 1-2)
  9. Take out the diving and I would take that ANY day. I seriously don't see what else someone could have been asking for in a 6th overall pick in what people have said was a relatively weak draft. All star, superstar potential in almost every category. If he can be coached and developed right, he can be an all star. Anyone who says otherwise, I respectfully have to disagree. i believe in this kid
  10. Jake Virtanen is turning out to be one hell of a pick. I know it's early but I believe in this kid. So rarely do you find a player with seriously all the tools to be an impact, who is still on the younger end of his class, and from your hometown? Elite Speed Elite physicality Elite shooting ability Great hands Great finishing ability He can show he can play either wing effectively Showing this year there is more to his game than just north south goal scoring, and adding some playmaking NHL ready size and getting bigger. (stronger, and faster might I add) This among other feats, I honestly believe with some refinement I could honestly see Virtanen becoming an all star one day. What else could you ask for in a 6th overall pick.
  11. I like the idea of trying and groom Vey and Horvat together if he stays. Their styles seem pretty complementary and they can start developing chemistry immediately.
  12. I know it really doesn't matter and I'm just glad we got the W. But still https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpnO1-z4x84 If you pause at 2:33 the puck clearly bounces off horvats stick and goes in. It is indeed his first goal. I don't know if they will count it for him, and I don't know if he cares, (probably does) but it is his goal. Still though, thought he played a great game even with his limited minutes. Hope he keeps it up and sticks around.
  13. That's where Jordan Subban comes in. I have had a good feeling about him since day one, and he continues to impress me. Plus, working with a former Norris Trophy winner, and a super talented goaltender for brothers won't hurt either. On a side note, If Horvat does get sent back down after 9 games and joins Max Domi for one final year in London, it would be awesome if Jordan Subban got traded to London as well. I feel like it could be a good fit and it would be awesome to see them go on a playoff run together.
  14. If Bo does make it, I feel like the fans will tear him a new one. People expect mad points out of this kid, and that just isn't his game right now. His game is doing all the little things right. Stick lifts, blocking lanes, deflecting passes to break up plays, use his body to box out guys or get in position, etc. His offensive game will come later, but not immediately. If he does get the call up, I expect him to have a Boone Jenner-esque year. Most of the year, he plays solid like he has, but with some bursts of offensive input. Then near the end of the season, his offensive game will come and he will explode onto the scene. He did kind of do that in the 2012-13 season for the London Knights. Which is nice because playoffs is where it counts.
  15. AAAAYYYYYEEEE!!!!!!!!!! He called you out man….
  16. Virtanen is to Ritchie, as Evander Kane is to Milan Lucic. I think that's a fair comparison to look at them by.
  17. Straight up Sedin---Sedin---Vrbata Burrows---Bonino---Kassian Higgins---Horvat---Vey Matthias---Richardson---Hansen (Sestito---Dorsett) That;s 4 lines that can go. Good center depth with 6 capable centers. 2 big guys rolling into the lineup once people go down with injuries. One right handed, and one left handed. And theres actually a good amount of flexibility in the lineup. Pretty much any winger on the 2nd to 4th line can move anywhere to fit chemistry. (Example, Vey could play on the second line, Hansen on the third, Kassian on the fourth, etc.) I really like that line up if Horvat makes it.

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

Impressive. I didn't know about these. I'm glad to see fans turning back around on this kid. As soon as we drafted Horvat, it seemed like people just didn't like him any more. I think he has some definite potential. 3rd liner or better almost for sure
  19. Good perspective. I couldn't have said it better myself. There's no shame in starting on the 4th line. Especially since our coach has stated the 4th line will get a much bigger role than with Tortorella to not run the Sedins out of gas mid season.
  20. Agreed. To me Ryan O'Reilly is almost a perfect comparison for Bo. I've also heard him compared to a David Backes, which I think also fits, but ROR seems like a perfect comparison to me
  21. Probably not the place for this, but is there a reason Canada doesn't have names on the jerseys? They all say Canada and I don't believe either the Czechs or the Russians did that. I may be wrong but just curious. (Oh also, I missed Bo's goal. I had to go pick up my mom from the airport. If anyone can make a GIF like two days ago, that would be awesome… Just sayin)

    State of the Line Up

Ok fair points to all. I honestly personally think Alex Edler will really bounce back. I just think almost all the factors we could point to that caused his drop have been eliminated and again I believe Corrado is the partner he needs. He's gotten better and is more ready than ever. But I understand your point. And yes, I actually think that Hansen on the 4th line is pivotal. Or at least more pivotal than a regular 4th line spot seems. When our team is at it's healthiest, he can add offense as well as defense on the 4th line, and we all know depth scoring is a must. It takes pressure off the top line guys and makes you're team harder to play against because of constant threats. But also, he's like the 10th offensive man on the team. As soon as there is an injury, he gets moved up into the third line right wing spot along with some line juggling. He allows for a lot of depth in the lineup. It's kind of similar to Burrows role in my lineup in that Burrows fils in the third line spot and assumes the role of first man to step in when a top 6 winger goes down with injury. Being able to play either left or right wing, he can hop in their spot and Hansen can take his on the third line with Higgins and Vey.
  23. Bo Horvat Linden Vey Jared McCann Brendan Gaunce Cole Cassels Dane Fox Now that is some great center depth. Chances are, one of them will overachieve and become a first liner. (One will also probably underachieve as well) Our center depth looks pretty good for the future. And this doesn't include the guys who are already here. (Bonino, Mathias, Richardson, and Henrik.) You build from the center out and I think we've done a pretty good job at that
  24. I understand the dtroit model, but they do that because they have too. They've made the playoffs for over 20 years in a row. They don't get high quality prospects usually. So they compensate by excellent drafting and letting them sit and develop for long periods of time. But even they know, if someone is ready to contribute, you may want to just let them. Next year Anthony Mantha might straight up make the team and not go back to Junior. But anyway, what I'm saying is, with different prospects, you do different things, and yes it's totally fair to assume that the 9th overall pick in a deep draft would make the squad and not get sent back down.
  25. I especially like this idea. In the time that he misses, we can bring up a guy from Utica. Whoever is playing best by that time gets to a chance at the big club. I'm assuming one of these kids (Gaunce, Fox, or even Shinkaruk or Jensen if he doesn't make it. plays really well in that short stint.
