@Mr.DirtyDangles And who on this forum, pray tell, has "faith in an omnipotent presence that controls all aspects of reality"?
I'm not religious in any sense of the word, but I find the implication that all those who are religious have completely surrendered their personal autonomy to an "omnipotent presence that controls all aspects of reality" somewhat insulting. Implying it's that black and white is, again (I'm saying this word a lot), dishonest.

There is equivalence in those two statements. I find it slightly hypocritical that you would accuse me of "putting words into your mouth", when you're doing the exact same thing by implying that my paraphrasing of your statement was meant to imply that you were saying "there was only one plausible explanation".
Now you are grasping for straws. I never put words into your mouth. I have merely tried (unsuccessfully) to explain to you why those statements are not equivalent.
QuoteBasically, you're arguing over semantics when you and I both know exactly what you meant. Again, intellectually dishonest.
Saying something is "obvious" implies that it is self-evident truth and that any other explanation is implausible. This is NOT what I said.
I said and I quote "My guess is because they thought that their faith would protect them".
Quote...as a smug attack on faith and those with faith, using this tragedy as ammunition in the assault.
However you may want to paint it, this boils down to the OP saying "Lol, where's your God now?".
You may say that I myself am arguing over semantics, but when dealing with issues of faith, especially when discussing a situation in which people lost their lives, a certain level of tact is necessary in order to start a civil discussion.
You are creating your own narrative and pretending to know the thought process of posters on this forum. You aren't omnipotent. The OP never said "Lol, where's your God now?". He clearly explained and reiterated again what his intention was behind the post. Not only are you choosing to ignore it but you are pretending as if you know how the OP (as well I for that matter) think.
There was nothing tactless about the way the OP handled the situation. If we didn't have a bunch of people jumping to unsupported conclusions on the intention of the poster and getting outraged, we could have had a reasonable discussion.
