  1. Any ideas on what to do if the power goes out during this snowstorm? I have sick and elderly people living with me, and since I work graveyard shifts, I'm gone most nights. Kinda worried.

hot water bottles are cheap and easy to heat up. If you've only got electric stove you can always use your bbq to heat the water or get a cheapie single burner from Canadian tire. Put 3 or 4 hot water bottles under a few blankets and they should be just fine. You can even put one of those metal foil blankets (again Canadian tire, about $3) between two blankets to keep things super toasty for them.

Another issue I forgot to mention. We have a little bird as well. Have to figure out a way to keep her warm as well. Maybe putting one of those metal foil blankets over her cage?

I don't want to be a dick but its +3 not -40 your house has insulation and a roof it wont dip down to anything dangerous even for the elderly. I had my furnace stop working last year when it was -30 in Edmonton and my house still stayed +14 for 36hrs before it was fixed.
