  1. You have to look at it from the player's perspective too. If I'm Petey, I know I'm chasing 100 points, and a 100 point season on my resume would probably go a long ways towards netting me more on my next contract. Now all of the sudden career AHL players are eating into my ice time, and not because it gives us the best chance to win, but because it gives us a better chance to lose. That doesn't sit well with me at all if I'm him. Not only is the game being purposely sabotaged, but my season and potentially my payday is as well.
  2. Obviously I want the team to land the best pick possible. I'm sure that goes for everyone here. That said, you can't expect professional athletes to purposely lose and expect them to want to stick around. I think my main issue is that I just don't understand what people are advocating we do when they complain about winning games like Drance does. There may be some minor things like allotting ice time differently, but it's not like that won't be noticed by your star players. If the team is down 3-2 with 5 minutes left, we get a powerplay, and Tocchet sends the 4th line and bottom pairing out on the powerplay, I'm sure that wouldn't sit well with Petey or Hughes. We could sit Demko, which would probably have a more significant effect on the tank than anything, but are you really willing to piss off your star goalie (as well as the rest of the team), especially after he was out most of the season and is trying to reestablish himself? That hardly seems fair to him.
  3. Just let people enjoy hockey ffs. Insufferable tweets or posts about how wins are lessening their lottery odds aren't going to change anything. Insufferable wet blankets like Drance that shout "BUT MUH DRAFT ODDS" after a win make being a hockey fan more frustrating than it should be. I legitimately believe people like that are doing damage to the growth of the game.
  4. I predict that the people complaining about wins will continue to be insufferable regardless of how the rest of the season plays out.
  5. I have to side with @Junkyard Dog here. We don't know what we're getting with Hronek. He could be a perfect fit for this group, or he could be the next Nate Schmidt. We just don't know yet, but we'll have a far better idea of what Hronek is next year than we will this year. Let's keep in mind that he's still an RFA when his current contract expires, so it's not like he can just waltz into ufa status next year.
  6. This seems to be the case. We shouldn't be focusing on finding whoever we can to play beside Hughes because Hughes makes anyone look good. We should be looking for someone that Hughes doesn't have to make look good and instead someone that compliments Hughes so he can be even better.
  7. I think you're being a little too kind tbh. The Horvat trade looks decent right now, but if Raty busts, Beau returns to his NYI form next year and Hronek Nate Schmidts on us, then it's a loss. On that note we haven't even seen Hronek play a game yet, so we certainly can't call it a win yet. Most people hated the trade when it first happened. Then there are the contracts. The Miller contract probably isn't going to age well and the Boeser contract is already a disaster. And as far as Mikheyev goes, while I have no problem with the player, his contract is quite pricey, and that's cap space that could have been used in better ways than by spending it on yet another winger. Edit: We also need to look at their first draft, and while it's too early to determine anything for sure, Lek is already trending in the wrong direction.
  8. I think he has it in him to return to his previous form, but I don't think he can do it here. Brock is in desperate need of a change of scenery.
  9. Not to poop on anyone's hype, but Gaudette was a Hobey Baker winner and was significantly more productive than McD at this age.
  10. Hronek and hopefully one of Livingstone or Malinski should help in that regard next year.
  11. Petey: "Why the hell is there a grill on the bench?" Kuz:
  12. EP might be willing to sign for a little less if he has some faith in the organization. If the team still sucks when it comes time for him to sign a new contract he sure as hell won't be doing us any favors.
  13. Super impressive that they were able to resign the the best player from the 2012 draft for that cheap.
  14. I understand why the league feels that the weakest teams should have the highest picks though. It's not really fair, as it rewards failure, but I understand. But there has to be some other way to deincentivize sucking.
  15. I really wish the NHL could figure out some way to eliminate tanking alltogether. I really don't think a putting nearly half of the fanbases in the league into a situation where they're rooting for losses with this much of the season left is beneficial for the game. It'd be nice to be able to root for a win without that nagging feeling a win hurts us in the long run. Something just feels very wrong with that.
  16. You probably thought you were making some sort of point with this thread. You probably thought that people were going to see your little rant and be like "Hey, yeah!! He's right!!" You probably thought people would care about your opinion.
  17. I'm thinking his ceiling is a 3rd line winger. Not expecting much more from him tbh and I expect him to be in Abbotsford next year.
  18. There will be a lot more options for the Pens come free agency, the Hronek trade pretty much confirms we're not looking to rebuild, other than Petey, Miller is the only legit NHL center we have, and if the Pens didn't have a young center to move back to us at the deadline then they're not going to have one to move in the offseason. Just accept it. It's not happening.
