[Report] Jim Benning to return for next season
48MPHSlapShot replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Benning does have one year left on his contract, right? So if we let him go now, Aqua would still have to pay out the remaining year of his contract, would he not? I'm thinking this might be purely a cost cutting measure. Between this and our front office being so small in general, I get the feeling that Aqua might be trying to pinch pennies where he can. -
[Rumour] Sam Reinhart open to a trade back to West Coast
48MPHSlapShot replied to a topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Reinhart is a great player no doubt, but I wonder if he's a fit here. Reinhart is undoubtedly better playing up the middle than he is on the wing, which is where we would most likely be playing him, since our top 6 center position seems pretty set in stone for the next several years. Add to that the fact that our RW is strong as well and I just don't think it's a fit, especially with Podkolzin likely making the jump next year. If we do go after a top 6 player, I'd rather look for a playmaking LW....ideally one with some size and grit if possible. -
Seth Jones [Proposal]
48MPHSlapShot replied to PunjabiCanucks's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I'm sorry dude, but that offer doesnt even come close. Declining numbers and being on the tail end of a contract may have dropped his value a bit, but you're still looking at something like a top end player like Boeser, Bo or Miller, a high pick and a good prospect to land Jones. Number 1 Dmen dont grow in trees. -
This. A million times this. If we go the route of an old boys club with no experience this time around just to placate the fans, it'll go a long ways towards convincing me that ownership may be the problem here.

Tony De’Angelo to van?[Discussion]
48MPHSlapShot replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Kinda out of the loop on this one, but when people call him racist, is it a "dropping N-bombs, going out of their way to slander or bully people for their skin color, whites are the superior race" type of racism, or is it a "Conservative leaning, critical of the BLM organization, maybe the police force shouldn't be completely defunded" type of "racism"? Regardless of all of that, there's no excuse for getting into altercations with teammates or burying your teammates when they're down. Just trying to figure out whether De'Angelo should be given a second chance. -
Reinhart is a far better player at center than at wing. If Reinhart were moved in to replace Boeser on RW not only would it make us worse, as Boeser is a better player than Reinhart on the wing, but it would be a waste of Reinhart's talents. As cool as it would be to have a player the quality of Reinhart in the lineup, I feel it would be a redundant move. Our top 6 center situation is set in stone for the next several years (most likely), unless you want to drop Horvat or Miller down, which would be a waste imho. And as I said before, trading an asset the quality of a Boeser for a player like Reinhart just so we can play him out of position would be a mistake. Also, Boeser had 13 goals and 31 points this year at regular strength, so yeah.

Pfft. They actually won the super secret billion dollar Swedish lottery and are in negotiations to purchase the franchise.

Is using a postgame comments section one this one forum after an emotional loss when people are at their angriest and quickest to post without thinking really the best way to gauge the collective mindset of an entire fandom?

Canucks announce 2020-21 Team Awards

Feel like Boeser and Demko got a bit shortchanged here, but I guess they can't all get awards. -

It's difficult to say just what the impact would have been had things gone differently. We'd be in better shape, but as to how much better shape we'd be in is totally up in the air. How Madden develops in LA may end up being totally different to how we would have developed him. Same goes for whoever we would have picked with the second. I imagine we'd probably get into an argument if I address how you would have handled the TT situation, so I'll just leave that alone for now xD Moot point now anyways. -

He's still young, this is his first taste of pro hockey, and 14 games is an incredibly small sample size. Even if he doesn't pan out, it still would have been perferable to have the asset. -
I'm starting to get flashbacks to the Oilers old boys club from a few years ago. That worked out well for them, right?

In reference to Toffoli, the mistake was in making the trade for him in the first place. Good player, but on an expiring contract. And at the end of the day, while he performed well enough in his ten regular season games, the team itself was still losing, so his production didnt really help much. And as far as his playoff performance is concerned, he had one great game and was a non-factor the rest of the time (Yes, he was injured for much of the time, but he didnt exactly light the world on fire when he was healthy). Things would certainly look a lot better if we still had Madden and whoever we would have drafted with our second. -

Bring back Clark. Replace Green with Gallant if possible and let him choose his assistants.

The police have officially opened a case and are starting with investigating allegations made by the woman about sexual abuse involving Jake Virtanen. Moved in on sounds like NCIS Los Angelis..

Seems weird to focus on Tryamkin when so many, far more egregious mistakes have been made.
