  1. Inject this into my veins! https://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/worst-leafs-performance-i’ve-seen-in-25-years-as-a-fan.2743583/
  2. If we make a move, I'd rather it be for someone that can actually play defense, so no dice to both Barrie and Risto.
  3. Here's a crazy thought. If Hughes performs at his current PPG average for the next 22 games, which would tie him with Pettersson for the Canucks rookie scoring record, he'll also tie Phil Housley for the 4th most points ever scored by a rookie defenseman. If he performs at the pace he's performed at over the last 25 games (in which he's scored 29 points), he'll pass Brian Leetch for the 2nd most points ever scored by a rookie defenseman, with a legit shot at Larry Murphy's all time rookie defenseman scoring record. Hughes is beyond elite.
  4. Helluva game for our boys. Cap' stepped up, Toffoli had a big game, Miller had a big game, Richmond boy Stetcher had a huge game, 2 more points for the rookie phenom, Petey broke his semi-slump, Eriksson earned 25% of his salary. Handed the best team in the league their most humiliating loss of the season. It's a good day to be a Canuck fan.
  5. With the way we've been playing recently there's a strong chance we don't even make the playoffs, let alone go deep.
  6. Are there any comparables that had similar numbers to Rathbone at this point in their career?
  7. So, considering Hughes has been over a PPG for the last while, is it actually possible that he actually becomes the the highest scoring rookie we’ve ever had?
  8. In the name of looooove before you break my heart!
  9. That's a really bad sign. Does he not give a $&!# about the defensive collapses or does he not even realize that the D has been playing awful and bleeding high-risk chances for a long time now?
  10. Move Virtanen up to either the Pettersson or Horvat line, move Motte up to play with Gaud and Rooster, move Eriksson down to the 4th (or..you know....out of the lineup completely and bring in the Zack attack). I hath spoken.
  11. It's not happening. No GM in the league is stupid enough to take him on unless we attach a 1st rd pick and possibly more. Best thing to do is either sit him and hope he decides to retire or play him on the 4th line in defensive situations and on the PK, as his defensive game is just about the only thing about him that isn't absolutely atrocious. Sigh. I miss Leivo.
  12. Why is Eriksson still in the top 6? That little bit of magic he had earlier is long since gone and he's back to his usual, useless self.
  13. Put Toffoli in the shootout. Sure, he has a terrible record in shootouts, but hey, it'll be a good story!
  14. I merely cited Petey and Hughes as examples of players that overcame size issues. I never said that I consider Madden to on par with Hughes and Petey as prospects. The question isn't whether or not the players I cited are a proper replacement for Boeser, or can bring what Toffoli can. They obviously can't. The question is what leaves us in better shape going forward. Moving one of our top prospects and a 2nd for Toffoli, leaving things as is, or moving that package for blueline help instead? I would argue that options 2 and 3 are preferable to option 1, especially considering that we aren't even close to being a Stanley Cup contender quite yet. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think the rebuild is over yet. On a less argumentative note, I could see us moving Baertschi before the deadline. I understand that nobody took him while he was on waivers, but if we were to retain some salary and move him for "future considerations" (aka nothing), I can see a team having interest in him as a black ace or something. Sutter is a weird one. The guy can't stay healthy, and he's paid too much, but he definitely makes the team better, and we don't really have anyone that can fill his role. I do think we need to move him, but what can we replace him with? We already bleed high risk chances like a fountain, and now we're moving our best defensive center.
  15. I think hindsight bias is very much so coming into play here, but OK. To completely discredit everything Madden is doing right now, from being drafted in the third round and working his way into a player that would arguably be a 1st rd pick in a redraft because of his size just seems wrong to me. And if Benning didn't feel he couldn't overcome those issues, why would he have drafted him in the first place? As far as our top 9 is concerned, even with those three guys out we still have six forwards in our lineup that are producing at a .5 PPG average or better, not to mention Goldobin, Baertschi and Boucher all lighting it up in Utica. There were more glaring holes to fill imho. FTR I think Toffoli is a nice addition, and want to resign him as well, but how would we get it done without moving out a significant piece like Tanev, thus making it a redundant move and perhaps even hurting us more on the blueline?
  16. With a potential cap crunch looming, we're going to need some prospects to come in and contribute on entry level deals. Now we have one less player that can do that, and potentially one more high salary on the books (assuming Toffoli resigns). These size issues were also legitimate issues for Petey and Hughes, but they were able to overcome them. Talented players can generally overcome such issues, and Madden is certainly a talented player. And even if returning to the Kings is off the table for Toffoli, that still leaves 29 other teams that he can sign with after the season is done. Not to mention that we have some pretty glaring issues on the blueline that I feel overshadow any offensive issues the team has, even with Boeser out. If we absolutely had to trade Madden, I would have much rather addressed those issues. If this deal were proposed in the armchair GM section at this point two days ago, what do you think the reaction would have been?
  17. It's amazing how in 24 hours Madden has gone from one our most exciting your prospects to an undersized sack of crap that's multiple years away from seeing any NHL time.
  18. Would you trade Boeser for Armia and Cousins?
  19. This idea that Madden was 3 or 4 years away from stepping into the league is way overblown too. People were saying that about Petey when he was drafted.
  20. I mean, it's entirely possible though. Jim is banking on both the team and Toffoli in a huge way, and judging by how we've been playing lately, ehhhhh...... Also, how does this affect our cap crunch? We're kind of banking on prospects like Madden to step in and contribute on entry level deals to help alleviate some of the pressure. Assuming we do resign Toffoli, that's one more big salary on the books and one less prospect that will be able to step in and fill a spot on an entry level deal.
  21. Madden was looking really good. I understand that we're pretty stacked at center, but centers can always switch to the wing. Madden + a 2nd for a 27 year old Toffoli on the last year of his contract is a huge overpayment imho.
