  1. Kapanen is a player I’ve been looking at for a while now, so I don’t think it’s a bad trade, other than the fact that it depletes our weakest position (right D) to add to a position that we already have depth at. One part of this deal that I really don’t like is the addition of Boucher. He may not be an NHL player, but he’s been a stud for Utica, and I think having a star AHL player like Boucher to play under is part of why players like Lind, Jasek and Big Mac have been able to take the steps in their development that they have.
  2. Who’s that guy? I thought this was a free agency thread.
  3. The fact is that he's still just 22 as well. If Virtanen, who's a year older, can develop into a top 6 forward, then Boeser can surely further develop his game as well. I'm not going to sit here and say that he's looked amazing this season. There are certainly times where he's been a passenger on that top line. Perhaps some time on a different line with a couple of less offensively gifted players will help mold him into more of a play driver. Just for some context, the Sedins were just figuring out how to be legitimate top 6 players at the point in their careers Boeser is now, and Boeser has already been a legit top 6 for years. Same situation with Kesler. So to think that Boes is done developing is an asinine thought. All of this is being compounded by the fact that Eriksson seems to have actually remembered how to play hockey. Folks have short memories, and seem to be forgetting that for 9/10ths of his tenure here, Eriksson has been next to useless. He's no long term solution. The only way I move Boeser is if it's for above market value. If we can nab that young, top pairing right D we desperately need, then I'll concede that it may be the correct course of action, but barring that, Boeser has most certainly done enough to be granted the benefit of the doubt when he's not performing up to his standard.
  4. Agreed 100%. Moving star players for lesser pieces is a surefire way to to shoot a rebuild in the foot. It amuses me that Boeser goes a few games without a point and suddenly he's useless when the fact that this is the longest stretch he's ever gone without a point is a testament to his incredible consistency. Canuck fans are spoiled now.
  5. The top lines were getting hemmed in their own end in the third period as well. The Blues were pressing and their wasn't a whole lot anyone could do about it. The whole point of having players like Beagle and Sutter on the roster is so we can throw them in their when things get hairy. The "changing it up" probably had more to do with Sutter and Beagle both being injured than anything.
  6. To be fair, if this had been the Jake from earlier seasons he probably would have just taken the shot himself and shot it right into the goalies pads. It speaks to his increasing confidence and greater sense of on-ice awareness that he thought to make that pass to Miller instead.
  7. In the context of the game it makes sense. We were defending a lead. Had we been the team down a goal Petey and Bo would of course be getting more ice time than Beagle.
  8. Why are we assuming that Tampa would have accepted anything less? Sure, they had cap issues. They also had an entire offseason to work with and a glut of movable assets. This idea that they were desperate is so overblown.
  9. It seems kind of lazy to me to use trends as the ultimate indicator of whether or not a player will make it. Seems to me that looking at the player individually would be a much stronger indicator of what that players chances are.
  10. Wow. Pod all of the sudden putting up the numbers. I've been skeptical of the kid since we drafted him, but I'd love to be proven wrong. For those watching the games, would you say there's been any sort of tangible difference in his game, or is it more a case of just not being snakebitten any more + more ice time?
  11. I'd prefer to go 2 years as well. I would hate to see him regress to 4th liner with 2 more years at 3+mill left on his deal. I think the comparison is pretty apt though.
  12. While their paths aren't completely similar, I think Kasperi Kapanen is a decent comparable. About the same age as Virtanen and put up similar numbers last season to what Jake is on pace for this season. He was given a 3 year contract with a cap hit of 3.2 million per season in the offseason.
  13. The greatest coaching duel of our time coming in the final. Brett Hull vs Pam from The Office.
  14. Binnington is a tryhard whenever Petey is on the ice. Guy is still salty about losing the Calder
  15. I'm so glad they just talked to Gretzky and Hull the whole time instead of actually acknowledging the play on the ice.
