2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC
48MPHSlapShot replied to Qwags's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I can't say from personally watching him, as I haven't seen a whole lot of these players outside of highlights, but Barzal is a name I've heard pop up a few times when talking about Newhook. -
We should make the draft in Vancouver a good atmosphere
48MPHSlapShot replied to a topic in Canucks Talk
Honestly, we should give Bettman a big cheer. Suck up to him. Watch, next year we'll not only win the cup, but land the 1st overall pick as well, even though that's not possible. -
Why is every thread turning into a Benning thread? This is about Eriksson's comments. Oh yeah, because there's a troll baiting everyone.
-
I dunno. I'd say after about 12-15 (depending on how highly you rank guys like Harley and Kaliyev) there's a somewhat steep drop off.
-
So there's this draft coming up...
-
Not that it matters, as you can't predict how anyone will draft, but right after Florida used our pick, Chicago picked up DeBrincat. Things would look pretty interesting had the best case scenario taken place in 2016.

2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC

Bure was a 6th round pick. It's a lot easier to swallow a gamble like that with a 6th round pick than it is with a top 10 pick. -
I'd say the benchmark is the McCann, a 2nd and a 4th for Gudbranson and a 5th.

[Proposal] Van - Detroit
48MPHSlapShot replied to HughMungus's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
The upcoming expansion draft complicates a deal like this. There's a pretty solid chance that we end up losing one of Markstrom or Demko to Seattle, so bailing on DiPietro now may end up biting us in the ass. If Demko is able to take the reigns from Markstrom and becomes the clear starter at some point during the season, I'd be for a move like this at next years draft, but for now it's kinda risky. -
I have my doubts about that. While the skill level is certainly there, there are some questions about his compete level. My guess is that we pass on Kaliyev and he goes around 12-15.

Translation: "I'm a troll and you should ignore me." Got it.

2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC

I could maybe see him slip to 6 or 7, but even that's a stretch imho. Maybe saying "for sure" was a bit of an overstatement, but I'd give it about an 80-90% chance he goes top 5. -

Yeah, he's going top 5 for sure. -
Eriksson has no right to talk. He's failed under two different coaches here and has has multiple opportunities to play with both Horvat and the twins. Twit needs to either get his $&!# together or retire.

I wonder what Benning would think of it Also, if you believe the deal is lopsided for Ottawa, why even bother proposing it? Seems like you're just wasting everyone's time to troll those of us that aren't completely blind to the fact that Boeser is the best RW we've had in 15 years. Anybody with a grain of sense can see what a massive hole that creates in our lineup. Yes, we were a better team than Ottawa, largely due to Boeser's contributions. And Demko isn't something you just throw in. The idea of putting any stock in DiPietro at this point as anything other than a late rd pick with potential is extremely shortsighted. The mere concept of filling a hole by creating another hole is counterproductive and redundant. It's not happening, and Benning would never consider it.
-
Yes, let's just completely ignore the Demko for a 3rd rd part, as well as the fact that Boeser played much of the season hurt and missed 13 games. His PPG projection would have put him at nearly 70 points. Also, with Horvat here, Chabot ain't a "future captain" in Vancouver even if this insane deal is made. Your obsession with trying to trade the best right winger this franchise has seen since Bertuzzi is baffling.

Since we're comparing our own personal picks to the picks Benning had made, I'll go.... - In 2014 I wanted Nylander and we ended up with Virtanen. Wasn't familiar enough with the lower part of the 1st rd to make any determination on the Anaheim pick. - Since we were picking low in 2015 I'm not all that familiar with the available options, but I do remember wanting a Dman, and it seems to me as though all of the Dmen picked around that area have either flamed out or have turned out just OK, while Boeser has become a star. - In 2016 I did want Tkachuk and we ended up with Juolevi. - In 2017 I wanted Vilardi, 2nd pick was Glass. We ended up with Pettersson. - In 2018 I wanted Dobson (Bouchard my 2nd choice) and we ended up with Hughes. So, not including the Anaheim pick, my personal picks would have been Nylander, one of Roy/Juulsen/Dermott (probably Roy), Tkachuk, Vilardi and Dobson. My picks Nylander Roy Tkachuk Vilardi Dobson Benning's picks Virtanen Boeser Juolevi Pettersson Hughes Nylander > Virtanen Roy < Boeser Tkachuk > Juolevi Vilardi < Pettersson Dobson < Hughes So as of this moment Benning is ahead of me 3/2. Of all the players mentioned, Pettersson and Tkachuk are the best. Taking into account projection, Pettersson is probably the best of the bunch, with Tkachuk coming in 2nd, Boeser coming in 3rd and Nylander in 4th (although Hughes is primed to shake those rankings up pretty soon). Overall, I'd say it's a pretty solid win for Benning. Top 6 forward lines had we drafted who I wanted and not who Benning picked.... Tkachuk-Horvat-Nylander Pearson- Sutter- Eriksson Top 6 forward lines with Bennings picks.... Leivo/Goldobin-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Virtanen Just for $&!#s and giggles, the forward lines with the guys I would have picked in 2014 and 2016, along with Benning's 2015 and 2017 picks would look as follows (assuming we stayed in the exact same draft position ever year) Tkachuk- Pettersson- Boeser Pearson- Horvat- Nylander *drools*

Why tho?
-
If Benning makes that deal he immediately gets fired.
-
He's failed here under two coaches now, and he's gotten many opportunities to play with quality players, be it the Sedins or Horvat. His failure to produce ain't on Green. It's on himself. Hopefully this will at least bring the situation to a head so it can finally be resolved, but still, this just rubs me the wrong way.
-
Still not even close. Try's rights and Goldobin are both worth next to nothing, and Sutter, even at 50% retained, is an injury prone 3rd line center on the wrong side of 30.

Kids, don't do drugs.

Well, yeah. Go look at that trade thread. Nobody liked that deal.
