  1. Pratt is insufferable, and it's been especially bad as of late. Can't say I'm too upset about him being gone.

One of the best metal albums of all time. Defenders and Ozzy's Bark At The Moon got me into metal in 83-84.

Nice! Grew up on Priest, and they're still putting out quality music. Firepower is pretty good. Machine Head does a pretty good cover of Sentinel.

  3. I'll forgive him for trading Dahlen, as it seems he was a problem (demanding an NHL callup despite not showing anyone that he was ready). What I don't forgive him for is not holding out and waiting for a better deal to present itself. Even if a better deal hadn't materialized, this deal would likely still be on the table in the offseason. If I'm San Jose I'm certainly not pulling this off of the table. Dahlen's camp didn't have any cards to play, so there was no real harm in waiting and trying to come up with something better.
  4. I'm not quite as down on him as you are, but I agree that it may be time for a change. It also worries me that so many guys seem to be unhappy in Utica. Dahlen may be a primadonna for handling things the way he did, but it's starting to look like it may be indicative of a larger problem. Dahlen wanted out, Palmu wanted out, Jasek, Lind and Gadj have all struggled, and it's been a while since a really significant difference maker has come out of our farm system. Horvat, Boeser and Pettersson basically all arrived NHL ready, while I can't really think of anyone that's gone through our farm system that's turned into a significant NHL player.
  5. Which is why I'm still happy with this deal, as Gudbranson was hot garbage wrapped in the body of a hockey player. I'm just getting tired of plugs is all. We have 5 players that could be considered 3rd line left wingers on the roster now. I know that's an area we were weak on, especially with Baer done for the year and possibly for his career, but at some point I'd like to see some actual quality come into the fold via trade and not just quantity. I'm mostly happy with Benning's drafting, as I'm not willing to simply attribute any of his draft success simply to picking high (simplistic logic), but I'm not happy at all with his trade record. Even with the trades he's won, none of them have been overly significant. They've all been sort of middling successes like Shinkaruk for Granlund. You can't expect a franchise altering move every year, but he's nearly 5 years now and there isn't much to show for it in terms of trades or signings outside of maybe Stetcher. Bleh.
  6. I'm not saying I want to trade significant futures, but at some point a deal needs to be made to get us to that next level. Not saying it was here to be made today, but we can't be stuck in rebuild mode forever.
  7. Considering what Ottawa ended up getting for Stone, our 1st plus Hughes would have been a huge overpayment.
  8. The best detriment that a team can have is a good PP that can make the opposing team pay when some goon takes a run at one of our stars.
  9. But seriously, how many 3rd line wingers to we have now? Roussel, Leivo, Spooner, Goldobin, Pearson. Seems like Benning is just taking swings at random projects and hoping for something that something sticks. I still like the deal, as Gudbranson was as useless as t&ts on a bull, but still, I find Benning's strategy on finding LWs to be a bit lackluster.
  10. Didn't seem to help anything. Maybe we get absolutely manhandled down the stretch now that Guddy is gone, but barring anything like that happening, this move is a big win for us.
  11. Gudbranson has 3 fights all year. I really don't think we're much softer now than we were before.
  12. Gudbranson is a hot mess of a player. Moving him for a bag of pucks would have been a win.
  13. It's possible, but using the same logic, this deal likely would have still been on the table in the offseason as well. Why not wait and see if you can do better?
  14. I'm extremely disappointed that Dahlen wanted out, but he hadn't earned an NHL job yet. Just didn't think he was that type of guy. That being said, I really feel we could have moved him in the offseason for something more significant than what we got.
  15. Not my opinion, just quoting him.
  16. If memory serves, Horvat's numbers were actually better while Sutter was out. Being a rush (or one dimensional, as you would call him) type player, it's entirely possible that he may thrive in a "counterattack" type role moreso than a role in which he gets mostly O-zone starts.
  17. EP has the Calder locked up unless he suffers a season ending injury or dries up completely, which at this point is highly unlikely.
  18. Considering it's his first full season of pro, and playing on NA sized ice, I'd say he's doing quite well. Not everyone can be Pettersson. I'm guessing he starts flirting with a PPG pace in the AHL next year and eventually gets called up during the 2019/20 season.
  19. So today was a bad day.

If Eddy does have a fracture just shut him down for the year, the man's done enough. I feel for his family that had to watch that from a distance.
